My 5 year old and I stayed here for a couple days over the holidays, and it was lovely! The vibe is great, with beautiful artwork and antique furniture throughout. The room was super clean and comfy, and we had everything we needed (tea, coffee, milk in the guest fridge right down the hall). We opted for a room with a private bathroom which was perfect for us. It was HOT while we were there, and the air con unit in the room was super powerful which was so refreshing after being outdoors all day. There are cute coffee shops within walking distance too. The breakfast was great - local artisan bread with jam and butter, cereal & muesli, and fresh yogurt and fruit. Thanks so much for a wonderful stay, we'll definitely be back next time we're in Castlemaine!

Great pub with friendly staff. Had a good old time watching Mic Conway perform at The Cool Room recently.

Fabulous old school art hotel epitomising the boutique hotel feel of an earlier era. Charming, quirky, clean, thoughtful touches such as tea/coffee station in the corridor and breakfast in a delightful dining room space. Our room was facing the main road but quiet as the lovely enclosed verandah dulled any road noise. Maggie and Allen were so hospitable, we so enjoyed conversing with other guests around the fireplace and wished we had been able to attend the movie session on in the afternoon where one sat in an eclectic theatre room in huge comfy couches. Walking distance to pubs, cocktail bar, theatre, Botanic Gardens, The Mill and station. LOVED it!!

We came to see a music gig downstairs which was an excellent performance space and it was so easy to wander up the staircase to our room once the music had finished. It’s a beautiful building with an eclectic collection of art on every surface.

It's good, it's a non pretentious establishment that tries it's best to leave a nice comfy impression on you. Stayed in the boyd room, it was pretty comfortable. The breakfast was also lovely, felt like something you'd snack on at home. Events played through the night like a band and poetry reading. Left feeling refreshed.

The owner and manager, Maggie and Alan were very friendly and helpful. Our room was called the 'Heysen Room' (after Hans Heysen)The room with private bathroom was excellent. The room had polished timber floors with rugs, air conditioning, TV, nice clean beds, bathrobes. paintings on the walls. A very nice ambience. There is a communal fridge you can use. The continental breakfast is excellent and included tea, coffee, toast, cereals, yoghurt and fruit.
All in all a very comfortable and enjoyable place to stay in Castlemaine.

The Northern Arts Hotel is a unique and welcoming place to stay. Maggie is warm, friendly and an experienced hotelier and the accommodation is simply charming. Art lines the walls, a baby grand sits in the corner and the locals love to chat and fill you in on the history.
As a single female traveler, I found the hotel clean, comfortable and companionable. Walking distance into town, so I felt very safe making my way on foot, to find a meal at night.
Recommend you contact the Hotel directly to book, instead of booking through an App.

Excellent place to stay in Castlemain. Very clean and well presented rooms. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable regarding the local area. Even have a small breakfast as well. Toast, cereal coffee, tea, yoghurt and fruits. Off street parking available, decent wifi connection. Also just around the corner from an excellent brewery.

Maggie's hospitality was excellent, especially her fantastic coffee each morning. Made to perfection. We also loved her sharing of her Pot Luck evening and her eclectic group of friends. Our art classes were a great way to enjoy the wonderful environment.

Maggie has created the most warm, open , comfortable and inviting environment. The Northern Arts Hotel is full of delight and quirks. If you are staying in Castlemaine try to book a room here. It's loaded with charm and a fabulous Bohemian style.

I went yo see a performance. It was a wonderful night. It started with owner Maggie inviting me to the staff dinner, so grateful.
A lot of fun, Gillian Eastoe and her amazing guitarist playing partner Terry Murray we very professional show.
Seeing a show not just a band in a pub.
The rooms were warm and cosy.Thoughtful care.Loved the continental breakfast, the gluten free museli was very tasty? Where do they buy it?
So glad I made an effort on a Thursday night as I buzzed asl the way to Sunday.
Thank you Victoria

My husband and I checked in 24/01/2020.
Easy self-check in, picked up our key at the bar and headed up stairs.
Very quiet, comfortable bed, and stunning bathroom. There was even a balcony to sit out on.
The hotel was beautifully furnished, art, antiques and collectibles everywhere.
oh....and the Bakery next door!!! So amazing.
Loved our stay there and will recommend to friends. Thank you.

We stayed overnight at the Northern Arts Hotel last weekend. Easy and friendly check in with Alan, super comfortable and warm room. We particularly enjoyed the electric blanket that was left on for us on arrival, and the complimentary room upgrade. Will stay again when we are next in Castlemaine.

Have stayed twice now, once on NYE with friends in 2015 and we had the run of the place and more recently as a stop over on my way back from Adelaide to Canberra. Both times I have had a top class room and really enjoyed my stay. Recommended if you want to base yourself in a comfortable place from which you can explore the region.
