Dr Paul Licina

After being in immense pain and/or numbness since August 23 from a L4 L5 herniated disk, Dr Licina was recommended to me by a friend. Everything happened very quickly following my first appointment . Dr Licina assured me the pain would be gone after the surgery, I really did not believe him. Now 6 weeks post op I am pain free, had no pain medication since 2 days after surgery and regained strength and feeling back in left leg and foot. Beautiful little 2 cm scar that is almost invisible. So grateful to Dr Licina and he's team, including the BackSpace team. I have now been discharged to get on with life. Highly recommended.

I am 23. 22 at time of first appointment and living in agony and in and out of a wheel chair. Public system wouldn't touch me because I was too young but Dr Lucina was one of the few doctors that saw the issue in my spine and was willing to try and get me a better life.
Fusion is by no means right for everyone and I can't say I'm pain free, but I am out of the wheelchair and to me that is worth the highest praise. The surgery was a spinal fusion for Grade 3 Spondylolisthesis.
Again, doctors have treated me like I don't know my own body for years! And Dr Lucina's way is to find out what you want. It's a harsh tactic but it's realistic, he never promised me a pain free life , only an improvement on what I was going through but he also really listened, offered advice and gave me time to come to my own decision. He did an awesome job on the surgery too.

I found Dr. Licina to be a man of high integrity, honest in his approach to me and extremely competent in the surgery he performed on my back. I am extremely pleased with the outcome of my back surgery and recommended him to one of my friends who also was delighted with the final outcome of her surgery performed by Dr. Paul Licina. After 6 months of being pushed from pillar to post Dr Licina had me in surgery within 24 hours.

12 weeks post op (microdiscectomy) I am nearly pain free and have almost 100% mobility.

Dr Licina changed my life when he agreed to undertake a L5S1 fusion for me over 20 years. He performed an anterior& posterior fusion & found the Scotty dog broken & loose. My spine was effectively flapping which explained the unbearable pain.

I hadn't been able to sit down for 7 months before I made an appointment to see Paul Licina regarding my herniated disc L5/S1 protruding into my spinal cord and crushing 2 nerves. I had seen another surgeon but was not comfortable with the way the surgery was operated and I was looking for a second opinion. I have nursing friends who pointed me towards Paul Licina.
I read the less than complimentary testimonial on this site, and was a little concerned before my first appointment but decided to keep an open mind and visit Spineplus. It is not even physically possible at this clinic to see into any of the consulting rooms, I think this patient must have mixed this surgery up with another one.
I work 2 jobs and am the sole carer for my son and needed to organise my operation and initial recovery to fit in with school holidays, so both my son and I could be cared for by different people post operation. Paul Licina and his team operated on me on Easter Monday, unbelievable!

I went to a 2 different surgeons in Brisbane to be turned away for surgery and be told I was to deal with the pain. I found that Doctor Licina was the most helpful and explained everything so that I fully understood what my surgery was about. I was in agony for over 3 months with s1 nerve pain and now 5 weeks post op and haven't felt this way in years. Its also taken a majority of my back pain away as well. I was explained to by Doctor Licina that the surgery was to take the s1 nerve pain away from down my leg in which it has. With the new Backspace facility next door I found there online app is the best thing to encourage me to do my back exercises and video tutorials on how to do them properly on a daily basis. Couldn't be more thankful to the spine plus and backspace teams to getting me back on track. Highly recommend this surgeon.

I have used Dr Licina on a number of occasions and always found him to be professional and extremely courteous. I had a L4,L5 S1 and have had no issues whatsoever, I also had a complex C4,C5 Spinal fusion, my whole family were extremely concerned prior to the operation however I knew I was in the hands of Dr Licina and felt extremely relaxed and knew that I was in safe hands. About two years ago I had the pleasureof meeting DR Paul Licina (as a patient). From the outset I was impressed. Firstly by the way all aspects of my visit ran like a railway timetable. And secondly I was blown away with Pauls explanation (via a three dimensional computer program) of the process he was about to undertake on my body.
Post op I remained in hospital for only four days and two days later was driving back home.
I cannot speak highly enough of Dr Paul. The end result is that I am now able to complete a full days hard work every day whereas prior to the operation I couldnt get out of bed without crying out in pain.

I can't recommend Paul enough, as surgeon and as a nice guy. Six months ago, I had a L4-5 interbody fusion. I literally could not walk more than 300 meters and would have to stop for ten minutes. My legs would go numb, until I could not feel them. The operation was life changing for me. No issues, like nothing was ever wrong, thank you.

I met this man this morning, with severe back problems for a 2 nd opinion and all I can say is WOW Extremely helpful and I left the building on a high of 10 out of 10 drilling down scans till he and lovely assistant found what was going on. In pain for years and small a procedure ( presto) I am now pain free in the area effected. So I can only praise him enough Thankyou Paul so much.

Great surgeon and team at spineplus and backspace im only 4 weeks post l4l5s1 fusions but im feeling good you wouldnt know ive had surgery
