G.J. Gardner Homes - Shepparton

Great quality, excellent team, timely and transparent build!

We built with G.J. Gardner Shepparton in 2022/2023. We bought untitled land, hoping it would title within 6-12 months of purchase, but it took 18 months. Regardless, G.J. were ready to start as soon as our land was titled. The team were organised, and helped us through design, fitout and fixture selection early, so we could start as soon as allowable.

Our building supervisor was with us through the entire build, and made themselves available to answer any questions and or provide timely updates. The team were also more than happy to help make minor adjustments to the build as we went (e.g., adding extra noggin support for TVs, adding extra power points etc.). Having a smaller team means having more consistency through the build, and to an extent, more certainty. Less turnover helped us build a solid relationship with the staff at G.J. and know who to call, and when to call them.

The design team helped us through the practicalities of living in our house, including moving the fridge nook from one side of the kitchen to the other, to allow for a double-doored fridge/freezer installation - this was called out early, and probably something we would have missed.

Despite slight delays with the brickwork (COVID-19 backlog), our house was fully built and settled within approx. 9 months, and we were the first to settle in our area. Many other builders in the area have taken in excess of 12 months, and construction is still not complete.

The team were there to remedy any small defects, of which there were only very few. The owners of G.J. Shepparton always made themselves available during and post build.

Build costs may be slightly more expensive than the mass builders, but G.J.'s quality is something they pride themselves on. Also, G.J. are up-front and transparent about TOTAL cost, so you know what you are paying at the onset. G.J. could improve by providing a more transparent breakdown of materials and labour for major elements, such as painting, flooring, tiling (labour and materials etc.). Some elements were there, but, for those who are extra cost conscious, you will need to be proactive and ask about variations / modifications that could reduce your overall cost, as they are not explicitly laid out.

Finishing was great. There were very few remedial items, and these were remedied in a timely manner. Regular scheduled (and also by request) inspections helped us understand the build as it happened, and make small adjustments if / where required.

From the moment I walked thru the door at the Shepparton office I knew I’d made the right choice. The team in Shepparton have been open and honest, made changes to plans to suit my need and my block.
I would definitely recommend them to everyone if you are wanting the best quality house. This build has been stress free and enjoyable

The whole team has been accommodating to every request, all of our questions we asked, and many changes to our plan. Nothing has been a problem, and they’ve listened to what we wanted to build, and provided sound advice and recommendations at all times. No surprises with costs, very transparent. Matt, Chris, Shari and Shaye are extremely professional, friendly and great to deal with. Excited to see our finished product!

If I were to build another home, G.J.Gardner Homes will be my pick again! What I really like about G.J.Gardner Shepparton is that the staff members are friendly and approachable. In addition, they are transparent with pricing and willing to explain even the slightest detail. This has ensured that I do not blow over my budget before locking into contract for building. Matt and Sharri are very thorough and patient throughout. Right from choosing the house plan for my block, plan customization to suite personal need and the inclusion (e.g. architraves, colours, tiles, mixer etc.) This is particularly important as a first timer who has zero experience but daringly choose to build a forever home. When speaking to Matt, Sharri, Chris and Tim (Sales right through to Site inspection) I know I am being well informed what is now and what is next. Many might have told you, building a home is stressful but not with this team. I definitely recommend G.J.Gardner Homes Shepparton to anyone who is looking to build.

To Chris Longmore credit, I would certainly recommend G. J. Gardner Homes (Shepparton) as they were easy to deal with. We were given professional advice to best suit our requirements and our family to making modifications as we moved through the whole process. From the very start we felt very comfortable and confident with the level of expertise, professionalism and friendliness of Chris Longmore (G. J. Gardner Homes, Shepparton). Nothing was ever a problem and everything was transparent. We made numerous changes, and these issues were handled quickly and communicated articulately. While we had our fair share of issues, Chris addressed and solved all of our concerns, providing advice and guidance during the whole process.

Our $469,000 Gardner home was handed over today after a painful and frustrating twelve months. Couldn't be more disappointed with the Shepparton outfit. Imagine front doors where from the inside you can see daylight around the edges. These people should be building garden sheds not houses!
