Great spot to see endangered and migratory birds!
Dogs are not allowed at the sanctuary, due to the birds that's breed here. Dog walkers should stay in Respins Beach.

The Orford Bird Sanctuary is home to a variety of shorebirds, permanent and migratory; including the Red-capped Plover, Red-necked Stint, Caspian Tern, Pied Oystercatcher and Australian Pelican, as well as threatened species such as the Hooded Plover and Fairy Tern. This sanctuary is the most southern breeding colony for the vulnerable Fairy Tern. Currently (January 2020) there are 34 Fairy Tern nests at Orford Bird Sanctuary with fewer than 100 breeding pairs across King Island, Flinders Island and the Tasmanian mainland.
