We’ve been heading to Kookootonga for around 10 years and are never disappointed! There are plentiful chestnuts and walnuts - perhaps the best crop so far this year!

The site has eftpos facilities as well as cash. There are toilets on site and ample parking.

2024 prices:
Chestnuts $10 per kg
Walnuts $12 per kg.

There are workers moving across the s it’s all day that can point you in the direction of large nuts.

Watch out for the wombat holes!!

Like many others said, there’s typically more chestnuts than walnuts available. We were not very good at identifying which trees were which, but a lot of chestnuts can be found under the trees (because people realise they picked too much 😂). It was a very fun activity 🥰 buckets 🪣 are supplied but not gloves so be careful of spiky chestnuts!

This a fair drive, but it is a beautiful trip. If you are in mountains anyway this is a great activity for a couple of hours. The Chestnut season is pretty limited so check it is on before going.
Although the drive, Mounts Irvine and White are worth a visit anyway.
The people here are friendly. We were there after a super busy Easter and they still had their sense of humour.
There were lots of chestnuts, less walnuts.

I had so much fun picking chestnuts with my friends. Staff are friendly and encourage you to have fun. There is no entrance fee or booking needed, just show up and pay for the nuts you want to keep at the end. I paid $13 for 1.3kg. There is a short intro on how to pick chestnuts in the beginning, and then you have all the time to pick nuts. There are two toilets on the grounds so the line can get a bit long. There is a dedicated picnic area too and lots of parking. Can get busy but there were plenty of trees and nuts to pick. Would recommend! :)

We had so much fun at this farm collecting chestnuts. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Remeber to bring gloves and wear thick shoes as chestnuts were quite spiky. There's no entrance fee and you can just pay for what you pick! The chestnuts were so fresh! Highly recommend!
Chestnuts $10/kg
Walnuts $12/kg

Came here mid March, will be back again great farm and good drive there, a bit steep and slippery grass to get to car park, to exit you exit clockwise direction using a different gate, google maps takes you a bit short to the entrance, but ok since there are signs anyway. Friendly staff.

Second year visiting. Great day out under the sun. We visited during the middle of the season and there were plenty of big, shiny chestnuts still.

Alot of the walnuts had fallen still in their fruit so all you had to do was give it a rub under your shoe for the nut to loosen out.

Unfortunately there were alot of people breaking off branches to beat the nuts off the trees. More supervision is needed.

Firstly, for those planning to go as of 1at of April I will tell you now, from M4 M7 interchange onwards make sure you have 1.5 hours EXTRA travel time.

This year it’s packed.
Bells line of road is NOT accessible from Bilpin. You must go via Great western pass my Victoria to Darley Pass and despite it having a CLOSED SIGN You turn right into BELLS LINE OF ROAD. Partial road is open. Drive to the end of the road where it’s closed permanently and make a left and you’re on your way to Breenhold, Noroo etc gardens, keep going straight DONOT stop yet the gardens can be visited on your way back.

You’ll pass a camping spot, from there it’s 30mins slowly 60km don’t speed it’s not worth your life. Turn off the air con enjoy the rainforest.

thank you for the warm hospitality it was really what we needed after a one car one minute movement on the great western highway from Medlow baths allllll the way to Blackheath :)

Great produce would have come earlier but it didn’t occur to us that we would be what is normally 2hours (via great western hey, darley pass and bell lines) would be 4hours drive. :)

Only thing is wish I drove the 4WD getting up the slow after the flood resulted my tyres spinning in the mud and rocks - ended up parking outside the community hall grass down stairs - there’s ample parking up the driveway if you could do it.

The toilets were a bit far away but clean, and much needed for the drive. Suggest bring tongs! Hours of fun.

Lovely people ! Nice drive from Darley pass onwards -

Very kind staff with no entrance fee! They have an abundant supply of chestnuts and walnuts and it's easy to pick. The prices are relatively low too. Quite a cold climate up there. The chestnuts are great quality.

Chestnut heaven! My kids had a ball. Beautiful setting and really nice owners. Glad we bought tongs and gloves. Would recommend gumboots too if there has been recent rain. The drive through Mt Wilson and Mt Irvine was breathtaking and was a bonus. We didn't have a 4WD so had a bit of trouble getting into the driveway but would be ok if the ground wasn't wet. Definitely recommend and will be going back again.

What a beautiful peaceful place to visit, Chestnut picking was so much fun, so much green and a great place to have a little picnic. Dont forget to bring gloves as the shell of the Chestnut has alot of spikes. The people working there are so lovely too
