Our go-to Japanese restaurant for special occasions. We visited again for their Valentine's day set menu. Lovely presentation, great taste and good service.
Price is on expensive side but it's worth it.

Hanabishi serves authentic Japanese dishes, always with good quality and friendly service. The lunch boxes (shushi, sashimi , tempura) are very good value, strongly recommended. Their dinner menu is even more interesting.

We’ve been here many times and surprised to find out that they’ll be closing end of the year. So better get in your reservation and get a good taste of one of the better Japanese restaurants in Melbourne.

We’re going to miss Hanabishi, hope they’ll come back again in the near future with Hanabishi 2.0!

Craving for something different while in lockdown, I chose this Japanese restaurant.

If visiting their restaurant, they are found in King St and are open M-F for lunch and dinner sittings. They are closed on Sundays but open on Saturdays for dinner. They have been a stalwart in Melbourne since 1989 and have a variety of menu options including vegetarian and gluten-free.

Recommendations:
Gyoza - six pieces of pork fried meat dumplings - perfectly cooked accompanied by a dipping sauce and small salad.
Hana Sakura - Sashimi, sushi roll, teriyaki chicken and miso soup - kind of a bento box with mixed items - [Also had packets of wasabi and soy sauce].

All up - great tasting food at a reasonable price point, especially for home delivery. Give them a try.

Enjoyed a fresh and delicious meal here for my dad’s birthday. Staff were friendly and helpful with recommendations.

Hanabishi, what a Japanese restaurant. You want your date to smile? This is the place. Price is reasonable, but damn, the food is for Rah! Oishi😋

This is probably one of the most authentic Japanese food experience you can find in Melbourne. Sadly they are closing down at the end of 2021. So if you can, go and give it a try before they are closing down for good.

Delicious traditional japanese food. The absolute highlight is the salt kiln barramundi (traditional japanese dish that most people have no idea about!!!)

The first dish hasn't even arrived and I'll give it a 4 star. It's the atmosphere, the setting, a complementary braised meatball as starter.

Edit: it's now over. We ordered a regular size sashimi and sushi platter, AUD43, it's probably not the freshest I've eaten but it's good. Totally worth the money. A teriyaki chicken, AUD23, excellent. A soba with tempura, also very good - the portion of soba filled me up well.

Upgraded to 5 stars.

This is definitely a place worth trying! The staff are so warm and super friendly - they really go out of their way to make you comfortable. The Sushi and Sashimi Platter is definitely the way to go as you can taste so many different things and it’s still really affordable. The servings sizes are quite big so make sure to have an appetite when coming! The whole ambience of this place is great for dinner with some friends or even your work mates. Overall, 10/10 and I would most certainly recommend!

Excellent meal. Really lovely quality sushi. Outstanding meatballs to start with. Would actually come just for those meatballs. Didn't try cooked food this time but have in the past and they do it very well. Really interesting wine list carefully chosen for food match. Had a nice Sicilian white. Made even better by lovely company of good friends. I guess that is what makes an enjoyable restaurant experience - lovely food, good booze, unobtrusive service all adding up to the chance to catch up with nice people. Hanabishi makes that happen

TASTE LIKE JAPAN. And their food is very rich thus, the food there are very aesthetic. The way they made the food and designs are very creative and caught my eyes multiple times.
The service is also very kind and, they had managed to answer many questions i asked.

Such an incredible experience! Came here for a nice Saturday date night and our expectations were blown out of the water. The food was amazing, the service was on point and the atmosphere is perfect.

Food tastes good, but serving portion is not big

Excellent dinner in Hanabishi. We started with fresh sashimi which is in beautiful presentation. And the sukiyaki was absolutely delicious with fresh wagyu slice, which with beautiful fat marble. Yum!! That really reminds me of the food in Japan!! The price is worthy with high quality food and excellent service. Definitely we will come back again.

Simply delicious, the teriyaki chicken was an absolute highlight. Tender meat with lightly crisped skin...yum! $150 for two (incl. 1 x beer and sake) means it's not cheap but the quality of produce was excellent. Would def. recommend.

Some of the best japanese I have ever had the joy of eating served in a tasteful venue by attentive staff. If i could rate higher than 5 stars I would, the spicy tuna roll was genius will return to sample more of the comprehensive menu.

Excellent! That's all I can say! The service was prompt and quick and the food was top quality. It has to be my new favorite restaurant for Japanese cusine. I had the Hana Matsuri Lunch Box with some of the freshest Sashimi I have ever had.
Highly recommended !!
