Australian Platypus Park @ Tarzali Lakes

Stopped in for a bite to eat after seeing it on Google Maps. Had the barra and chips and the chicken burger, both very yummy. They offer a $10 platypus viewing. Great way for kids to spot the platypus and even better seeing them in the wild. It might take a few minutes but they definitely pop up!

We dropped in the get some smoked meats but discovered the place has had a remarkable renovation since we visited years ago. It has a big pavilion, is serving meals and has an abundance is outdoor eating spaces. We had cake and a yummy lemon myrtle iced tea. I think this place will continue to evolve as they have planted a large number of blueberry bushes and they are already fruiting.

This was a surprise visit for us... we found the location on a map we got from a visitors center!

We had a very warm welcome at a surprisingly nice and cozy location. A nice, warm lunch is possible, there are some nice souvenirs, and a couple of refreshments as well.

For the platypus sightings; all we had to have was a little patience, and then the little fella's came showing up... of al the Ozzy natives we met in real life, this one felt the most special!

If ever you're in the neighbourhood, please pay this park a visit, and while you're there, sponsor the platypus (and the fantastic owners of the park) for a bit as well!

Great setting too so relaxing to sit and watch for platypus.

Pulled in here whilst doing the waterfall circuit and had never heard about them.
We were starving and saw the cafe sign so swung in.
Service was unreal and man, the food was soo good. All handmade and their meats are some of the best.
We had a burger each and finished with homemade scones with their homemade jam!
Get in here whenever you can and just enjoy

Had a great time. The service was great, very welcoming. We got to see the platypuses. It's a waiting game, but worth it.

AMAZING EXPERIENCE. The guide was definitely 16 but he knew so much about platypus’s. We saw 3 maybe 4 different platypus’! The food there was also unexpectedly amazing! Worth every dollar to see these cool creatures.

Only had coffee (it was really good). But worth going for the platypus. There were so many of them. As long as you keep talking and they can hear you they will show themselves and swim close to the shore so you can observe them better. Definitely worth coming.

What a great place for everyone wanting to see the shy platypus. We had a fun couple of hours watching the platypus at this very pleasant location. A beautiful dam for the platypus and we saw 4 or 5 different animals - some up very close- 3-4 meters.
A special mention to our young guide Matthew who give us a very informative introduction to these fascinating animals and tips for how to spot them.
There is a good cafe there serving good hot & cold food. Can recommend both the coffee and cakes.

Amazing place. Got to see a platypus. Smoked meats across a variety of unusual meats was fun and very well done.

Great place - not over engineered or commercialised, this place is just about the wildlife! Staff were friendly and accommodating, were honest with me about the likelihood of spotting platypus at this time of the year, and advised me what to look out for. I got lucky and saw three! Felt very honoured 😊 really great spot if you love the genuine wildlife experience, seeing animals in their natural habitat (and on their terms - luck of the draw!). If you just want to see a platypus up close, go to the zoo.

Saw 2 platypus in the wild. Lunch was fantastic, the barra burger was big and delicious, the roo pie was to die for. Highly recommend stopping here.

Really lovely few hours spent watching the platypus in their natural environment. The owners are lovely with a lot of knowledge.
The food is also amazing!

Food was great, and presented well. We saw 2 platypus as well.

Lovely breakfast in enchanting place. We saw the trail of bubbles as the platypus went about their business, and a few turtles popped their heads up to say hello.

We got a warm welcome from the people and platypus as soon as we walked in! After the exciting experience watching platypi swim around we enjoyed one of the tastiest meals we had in a while!

My husband and I loved this place so much, we came back the next day for breakfast! Amazing, family run cafe with fantastic food (I loved the Barra burger) and generous servings. Loved the focus on local ingredients and the lemon myrtle tea. It's not fancy; just good quality, lovingly made meals with top notch and friendly service. Our favourite place to eat in the Atherton Tablelands. Their resident possum is cute, if not a bit of a trouble maker...

Didn't get to see a platypus due to the recent road works but the food was excellent both the meals and desserts

Excellent explanation, entrance fee fair priced, nice guide who likes the work he is doing. And actually you will see the platypus,😀
