Great food, amazing customer service. We came here for a birthday and ordered the set menu. The management were very flexible and accomodating with our requests and needs. The food was all very good and great value for what we paid - we were all stuffed after and they even given a complimentary dish which was a very pleasant surprise. Would definitely recommend and be back sooner rather than later.

We shared a selection of small plates. Definitely recommend this idea. We got the Japanese Fried Chicken, Beef wrapped asparagus, prawn spring rolls, a creme brûlée for dessert. This was more then enough for the two people.

Great combined with some sake.

Very unassuming but WOW! First time diner here and will definitely return. The menu appeared to be a standard menu for a Japanese restaurant, however don't let that fool you. The dishes were very well constructed, extremely tasty and something different to what I expected. Service was on par and friendly. Well done!!

I recently dined at this cozy Japanese restaurant and had an amazing experience. The place had a tidy, rustic vibe which added to the overall charm. The service was very welcoming and our orders came out quickly.

We decided to try a few dishes from their menu and we were not disappointed. The pork wrapped broccolini, BBQ unagi eel, and teriyaki chicken were all incredibly tasty. The portion sizes were just right, and everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection.

I must also mention the great customer service we received. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the owner, Isaac, seemed to remember his customers' preferences. It's evident that they take pride in their service and make sure that everyone feels welcomed.

Although the waiting time for the food could be improved a little, the overall experience was still highly enjoyable. The restaurant had a great atmosphere - lively enough to create a vibrant ambiance, but not so loud that it hindered conversation.

For those looking for a quality dining experience, I highly recommend this restaurant, especially for parties of two. Despite the slightly smaller serving sizes, the emphasis here is on fine dining and creating a memorable night out.

One thing to note is the availability of free parking through CPP Roe Street after 6 PM on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. This is a nice perk for those driving to the restaurant.

In conclusion, this place has been our go-to family dining spot for decades, and for good reason. The food is consistently delicious, the service is top-notch, and the atmosphere is perfect for a romantic meal or a night out with friends. This has been our big family dining place for decades. Tastes haven't been changed. Always get a quality service and friendly staffs. Isaac, owner (I think), always seem to remember his customers preferences.

Free parking available through CPP Roe Street (up to 3 hours) after 18.00 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (depends on CPP free parking promotions).

Kids friendly with the high chair availability upon request.

Waiting time for food to come needs to be improved a little bit but overall experience been good. The room has been a little bit dark but it's perfect for couple and romantic dining.

Unagi is one of my favourites dish and cooked and seasoned to my liking. Their special set course meal is a must try and you were able to taste a little bit of everything.

Serving size is a bit small and wont be full however it's about fine dining, great night out and good atmosphere.

What an incredible culinary experience! We ordered the set menu ($75) and were taken on an exquisite taste journey through Japan. Delicious flavours, served promptly with friendly and attentive service. We couldn’t fault this place and we’ll definitely be back.

I’ve been to Bonsai restaurant for the few times and the food was really delicious, and the atmosphere was great..very nice izakaya place for relaxing with friends on the weekends, they also have huge space for functions and birthday parties etc, boss Isaac was very kindly and friendly, I’ll definitely go back and recommend it to my friends!! 100/100 👍👍👍

This is one of our favourite restaurants. My husband has a dairy allergy, and Isaac always caters for him and alters the dishes accordingly. This is one of the reasons why we keep coming back. Each dish is mouth watering and the service and ambience are second to none! Thank you, Isaac and staff.

Love this place.... it was our first time here and we loved it.... we will be back.... You would not notice it if you walk past but you must drop in... and it's BYO on some days. That was the icing on the cake for me..

We used to go quite often, not sure why! But I am so glad we went again. Top shelf Japanese cuisine! The takoyakis were takoyummy!!!!!! Highly recommend this restaurant. Dont be fooled by all the building works on Roe or the battered door - its an absolute gem!

We had the Wagyu, eggplant, tempura prawns and gyoza. All very good. The mushroom with the eggplant was excellent.

My Fiancé and I frequent Bonsai and the food is always amazing, and the staff are always friendly and helpful. It currently one of our favourite restaurants in Perth and always recommend it to our friends. We’ve never had a bad experience.

It’s always a pleasure to visit Bonsai. It’s by far my favourite Japanese restaurant in Perth. Isaac and the team are warm, friendly and very accomodating. The food is consistently delicious and they have never had any issues adjusting for allergies (onion and garlic).
The seaweed salad, agadashi tofu, salmon ngiri and eggplant are our standing dishes but others have also been awesome. Highly recommended!

The food was delicious we ordered alot of small dishes to try abit of everything. The staff were very friendly and helpfull.

Delicious food and great service. Was invited to dine at Bonsai by a friend who swears by their food and service! I was not disappointed overall.

Ordered a handful of entrees/appetisers including mushrooms, beef tataki, pork broccolini, creamy prawn spring rolls and sashimi spoons. The majority of the dishes were well cooked and tasted amazing. Wagyu beef tataki was average and I felt that the dish was lacking in acidity and there was little to no dressing.

The fresh sashimi spoons are a MUST try. Fresh salmon and scallop sashimi with that amazing onion soy dressing... THE BEST. Hot tip: Get the off-menu shot of wasabi sauce to add on to the spoons that gives that added kick to the dish.

Tasted a couple of the mains as well — Teriyaki Chicken and Wagyu. Both dishes had the same amazing teriyaki sauce... not the kind of cheap, thick, commercialised teriyaki sauce. The Wagyu was beautifully cooked medium rare and the teriyaki sauce accompanied the meat perfectly. The chicken was well cooked with the layer of skin nicely pan fried. The homemade guacamole atop the chicken was a nice addition, albeit not necessary with that flavourful teriyaki sauce.

The dishes are well priced for this segment of restaurant. The food bill for this round topped out at just under $65 per person — six shared entrees and a main each... not bad at all. No drinks nor desserts were ordered.

Ambience is nice and fairly casual. Service staff could be a little more attentive, but overall experience was good. Wait times were fairly short. Booking is recommended but on the off chance in the evenings, walk ins are welcomed.

With the current roadworks situation (Mid August 2019), street parking is scarce and so your best bet is Roe Street CPP.

Would gladly suggest/recommend and return to Bonsai for another meal. Good stuff!
