The Deck cafe on the wharf

Absolutely delicious food especially after walking in from the cold. We had the salt & pepper calamari, whiting fish burger, the chicken Yiros and the kids nuggets and chips. Very friendly service and breathtaking view. It was a nice and cozy cafe.

Delicious food, lovely service, amazing view in the middle of nowhere, of course you'll love it. Cute little cafe. The open veggie burger was the best. The ladies working there are lovely to talk with.

Our friends from Canada and Texas took us for a holiday to Ki!!! We all had a ball. This Cafe was incredible. The food was great, coffee great, service great and price was great. We had breakfast there every day 😃 Thanks heaps beautiful people ❤

My friends and I had a beautiful lunch ! Scrummy Coffin Bay oysters as not the season for local oysters and fresh King George whiting fillets.
The view just lovely overlooking American River and friendly service as well.

Perfect spot for this cute cafe. Nice vibe with picturesque views. Very peaceful. My husband had the pancakes but he said the texture of the pancakes was rubbery. He said they looked much better than they tasted. I had eggs on a piece of sourdough bread which was nice. Very nice coffee’s.
Toilets located inside the cafe. Indoor and outdoor seating available.

5☆. Had one of the best lunches we've had on kangaroo Island! Watching the seals was an added highlight. Definitely recommend.

A lovely find for a late lunch after a long day of travelling and everything else was closed. The lady was so welcoming, ushering us into the cafe when she saw us hovering outside as we were unsure if the kitchen would still be open at 3pm. We were so glad they accommodated us despite it meaning they closed late because the food was amazing. The beer batter hoki burger special was delicately fried and super good!

Hidden gem with a great view of the water and boats. Friendly and helpful staff, catered for my wife's allergy. Lunch was amazing, the hot dog was tasty and filling and the coconut prawns absolutely delish. Good price too.

Great place for a wine, fish n chips and the view. If the weather is good definitely visit. Staff were amazing. Fish & Chips delish! Great vibe. The Rig next door are building by hand a replica of the first boat ever built in South Australia the Independence and have the History mapped out on the wall. Why it's called American River. Why the English, French & American flag fly here. Not our usual cafe stop but loved it.

Wow, this is a great place to stop and eat. A quiet, picturesque, location by the water with pelicans. Easy parking. Coffee. The eggs Benedict was very well done, and might even have used real Hollandaise sauce...In which case, even better, beyond the norm! A simple dish executed perfectly.The smashed avo looked impressive too as just one more of the numerous things on offer, including fresh fish and chips. It'd definitely be our daily local if we stayed in the area more than the night. Drop in for breakfast or lunch, and you'll be satisfied.

What a marvellous place, it's got great meals the scones were fantastic, the coffee was pretty good too. Gets busy so come in early if you want inside otherwise seating out side. If your in the area for lunch, morning or afternoon tea drop in its worth it. Staff very friendly.

A simple wow for a little local Cafe! Excellent service, beautiful environment and lovely dishes. Though a small menu, they have perrrrrfectly executed the flavours of the ingredients! The large latte is the real large mug that you don't see in metro area anymore! Definitely a gem in America river!

It was a good choice with friendly service and excellent seafood. We had whiting, natural oysters, kilpatrick oysters, fish burger, panko crumbed prawns along with battered whiting, and all very reasonably priced!

Enjoyed our seafood platter and delicious sauteed garlic prawns. Lovely atmosphere for dinner watching the birds and a seal in the water. Great views!

Ordered toast with Vegemite + avo side, was gifted oil, balsamic and dukkah to accompany. Service absolutely lovely and quick, despite being short staffed. Sat and watched seals and seabirds eating fish in the bay. A thoroughly wonderful experience, would 100% return every time I’m passing through.

It's a nice place to have lunch, with a view of the wharf. The food is good and the service friendly. If you are lucky you might spot Seals sunbathing on the rocks nearby, but don't get too close.

Gorgeous location right on the water. Nice spot for a coffee or light lunch. The dirty chai latte was delicious. If the weather is cool they even have lap blankets.
Food was ok, but the location is amazing & staff very friendly- Space for children to play on grass or paddle / fish in the water too.

I had a fantastic dinner experience at The Deck Cafe on the Wharf during my recent Easter holidays on Kangaroo Island. The late opening hours were a lifesaver, as it's not always easy to find good dining options on the island after 8 pm. The ambience on the deck overlooking the water was stunning, and the staff were warm and welcoming.

The menu had a great selection of dishes, and I appreciated that the prices reflected the cost of sourcing everything on an island. While it may have been a bit pricey compared to mainland restaurants, I felt that it was worth it for the quality of the food and the unique setting.

Overall, I would highly recommend The Deck Cafe on the Wharf for a special dinner out on Kangaroo Island. It's a lovely spot with great food and service. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience!
