Coober Pedy is a unique town literally in the middle of nowhere but it's somewhere that everyone should visit at least once.
The Australian attraction bucket list for the more adventurous has places like Cape York, Kakadu, The Kimberley, well add Coober Pedy to that list.
While the town lacks a bit in the looks department it makes up for it in the friendliness and the strangeness department.
Most people live underground, you can drive down a street and see absolutely no people, no house, no cars but 4 or 5 metres below you there will be people going about their daily lives.
The opal capital of the World is Coober Pedy and its not that hard to go and find your self a bit of opal of your own, ask me how.
Don't let first impressions cloud your opinions.
It's a very special place.
Be sure to stay in an underground house or hotel while your in town.
