Variety of authentic Tibetan cuisines mostly handmade. Must try momos - we had beef, chicken, and chura(cheese) ones they are very delicious! Great service and clean environment.

Just after Boxing Day late night trying to find a kitchen open after 9.30pm - this is the only place we managed to find and it was 10.30pm. Two of us found seating straight away parking options outside, indoor seating only.

Generous servings and really well priced, great service. First time I’ve had Tibetan food - 10/10 will come here again.

The food was delicious!

For entree:
I got veg steamed Momo and my partner got their signature beef fried Momo. They were both good but fried beef Momo was exceptionally good (it’s their signature dish for a reason).

And for our mains we got coconut rice, radish chicken and mushroom veggies. The mains were delish! We will definitely be going back for the radish chicken.

Dinner @WildYakTibetan, I asked the waitstaff for some recommendations and hard to go past momo and thenthuk.

I got the beef momo, steamed dumplings served with wild yak chilli sauce. The dumplings are lovely, slightly chewy texture encasing a lovely beef mince filling and enhanced by the marmite like soy sauce and slight kick from the chilli sauce.

I chose the chicken soup. The noodles aren't the long stringy type but akin to a thin lasagne sheet cut into stamp size rectangles. While this seems unusual it makes it easy to eat. Grab a spoonful of veggies, noodles, chicken, and broth and away you go. No mess. The broth clearly is influenced by a mix of Tibetan spices and is lovely. This dish really reminds me of something homely, warm and comforting, hearty and filling. Perfect for a winter meal.

I've been meaning to check this place out for a while and it's a shame it took me so long. The food was so delicious, portion sizes were perfect for sharing or on your own.
I tried the pan fried momo, chicken thenthuk soup and sha ping. I don't think I could fault any of these dishes honestly.
Will definitely be returning to make our way through the rest of the menu

Came here for my mum's birthday. Restaurant feels very authentic from the interior to the food.

We ordered the signature beef momos and cheese momos, the fried noodles (thenthuk), radish chicken (chasha lapau), stir fry beef (sha solo) and lamb curry for the mains.

Most dishes were quite good although the noodles were a bit on the salty side. Loved that the dishes felt like traditional home cooking. We finished it off with some chocolate momos which were served with a side of ice cream and delicious. We also tried the salty milk tea which was a little strange for me but I didn't mind it in the end.

Service was warm and friendly and they didn't charge a fee for serving the cake we brought in.

Great place. Really felt like a slice of Tibet in the middle of Northcote.

The Wild Yak is one of the best Tibetan restaurants I've visited. The food was fresh and tasty, the service was quick, and the owners are extremely friendly. I highly recommend stopping here for a meal - you won't regret it!

Wild Yak Tibetan Restaurant have the best momo in town! Would love to go back. Feels very sacred place as we saw Dalai Lama photos from their Altar! This place is amazing!

Quiet Thursday evening done right. Amazing Tibetan beer and the Calamari with Chili and tomato was fantastic!

Very genuine Tibetan cuisine. The atmosphere is calm and you don't feel like you are in Northcote! Momos were delicious! - well seasoned and the chilli sauce made it more tasty. Thenthuk was also great with an umami flavour and mellow. Tingmos were very soft. Their chai tea was also top notch; it did took them quite a while to make but definitely worth the wait. The prices are towards the affordable end.

We had tickets to see some bands at the northcote theatre and needed some food before the gig. Walking down high st we figured we’d find something. Lots of restaurants but the wild yak caught my eye and thought that sounds different and interesting. So happy we stopped. Prices are super reasonable and the food was so good I’m sure I dreamed about it last night and woke up wanting to go back. Pity I live over an hour away:( . We had some momos and wings for entree and they were fantastic. For main I had Sha solo which I’ve looked up this morning and it’s chilli beef. If I could eat one thing for the rest of my life I would eat this!!! I may move just to be closer to this place. I miss it so much already!

Perhaps the only Tibetan restaurant in Northcote and they know what they are doing. A combination of great and calming atmosphere, attentive service, and of course delicious authentic foods makes this place a must visit. The prices are also towards the affordable end.

They have the best momos! Staff are very friendly and the food is delicious. Also recommended the pulled noodle dishes.

Very lovely experience, price is good and food is so yummy. Feels clean and not too heavy, like a home cook food style. Would definitely come back often!

Updated review after 5 years.... Still Great food. Always delicious and very good value. Favourite is the calamari curry which is always amazingly tender. Momos are great and a nice change from a general dumpling.

A stirringly authentic cultural and culinary experience. Moreish momos, scrumptious stirfries and a powerful salted-butter tea that transported me to the Himalayas. The colourful ambience and traditional background music made for a serene meal. I'll definitely be back!
