Alchemy on Island Beach

Absolutely stunning! I can hardly come up with the words to describe our incredible holiday at Alchemy on Island Beach. With direct access to the beach via a short private pathway, we spent many hours sunbathing, paddle boarding and fishing. Having access to an abundance of fresh seafood we never went hungry and often enjoyed an afternoon nap on the beanbags. With quality, well equipped homewares and comfy beds, it has the feel of a home with unmatched views. Already booked our next trip and will recommend to everybody!

What a stunning place to stay! The views are second to none and the house is nestled in the sand dunes, making it so easy to get to the beach. The house is well equipped and comfortable. Not having to bring linen makes for a proper holiday! Lori is a very helpful host. I particularly appreciated her tips on where to go and things to do. Would definitely recommend.

After a whirlwind SE Asia vacation from Canada, we took a few days to relax on Kangaroo Island and we’re pleased that our search for accommodation led us to Alchemy! As it was just my wife and myself, the unit was a bit big - but then again, we got to choose the bedroom with the view of the beach and water. It’s a short walk down a path to the beach, but it was close enough to hear the waves - with not much else to disturb the nighttime quiet. It wasn’t terribly hot while we visited but the sea breezes were fresh (and I imagine quite welcome in the summer). Located about 1/2 way between Kingscote and Penneshaw, it’s a (relatively) short drive to either for a shopping or to go out for lunch or dinner.

The unit itself is in great shape - with all the kitchen utensils and appliances you might need, and a huge wraparound deck to go out and bbq or eat outside. At night, there were actually wallabies (or small kangaroos?) that were rustling around below the deck. I’ve got an old Sony video camera with infrared - so I’ve got the footage of the “green” (on night video, anyway) critters. No snakes spotted! And no tropical bugs inside (unlike Thailand or Fiji - lol). Pelicans and dolphin spotting straight out were routine but no less welcome by Canadian prairie dwellers.

Finally, the host (Lori) provided us quick responses to all our emails - including great shopping and sightseeing info and directions. We didn’t make it to the Remarkable Rocks - but the sand dunes and various Oceanside coves she told us about were views and visits that were worth the ferry over to
KI.

For the quiet and beautiful accommodation, the price was reasonable (and certainly expected with the breathtakingly high prices throughout Australia!) - and although we didn’t meet Lori face to face, her hosting was top notch.

Once Sydney is visited and done, Adelaide is a great second city. A trip to Kangaroo Island is a must-do excursion from there - and if you have a vehicle (a must), a stay at Alchemy is a relaxing base to see all that KI offers.

Perfect Beach house with everything you need! Sitting out on the deck with a glass of wine watching the sun set with Dolphins swimming around was just an incredible way to end each day of our stay. The fire place warmed the house beautifully and we had everything we needed to ensure a relaxing break. We stayed at Island Beach for a week and still it didn't seem long enough. There is so much to see and do on the Island and the beach was just picture perfect every day with barely anyone to be seen if felt like our own private oasis. The house itself was beautifully laid our with spacious Kitchen and family area, comfy beds and just very practically designed. A rare mix of beach and bush the friendly local wildlife comes right to the door. Lori was professional and quick to ensure we had everything we needed and that we enjoyed our stay as well as offering advice on local attractions. Definitely looking forward to staying at Alchemy again but for much longer next time

I stayed at Alchemy for my honeymoon in April. It was absolutely brilliant. The house had everything we needed, the fire place heated the house nicely, we didn't need to use the heater. The views of Island beach were stunning. The beds, couches etc were comfy and we spent a lot of time sitting on the verandah admiring the aqua blue ocean. Lori the owner is lovely and very accommodating. I would definitely recommend Alchemy if you are looking to go to K.I. My only regret is that we didn't stay for longer.

Magical views, perfect location and a lovely house with all you need to enjoy your time on Kangaroo Island. The quiet and safe swimming beach is just steps away. Native wildlife is at your doorstep (literally - we saw goannas, wallabies and so much bird life). Would highly recommend Alchemy and cannot wait to stay again!

Absolutely loved our stay at Alchemy, the views were beautiful. The house was gorgeous. This is the best place we have ever stayed on KI and we will be back. I loved walking from the bush to the beach, bird life amazing, ammenities perfect. It’s me Home & Away my Summer Bay ☀😊❤

Beautiful beach house, idyllic setting.

Just stayed a few days... but felt we should have stayed longer. Was hard to leave. Beautiful location. The house had everything we needed and more. Can recommend. Easy check in and Lori was most helpful from start to finish. We all Loved it.

Stayed in Alchemy early March with 5 other friends.
Location was lovely with beautiful views.
The property is quite down and in dire need of maintenance. Bathroom in poor condition broken tiles in the shower which has created leaking into internal walls . No lock on toilet or bathroom doors complete lack of privacy !
Having stayed in many beachside homes Alchemy was possibly our biggest disappointment!

The location of the property was terrific. Lovely sunsets and sunrises to watch from the decking. Unfortunately the house itself was a big disappointment. There were a number of defects with the property, which is in need of a lot of maintenance. Unable to close the bathroom door as the skirting boards were severely water damaged and swollen, thus difficult to have a private shower :( . Faulty locks on the exterior doors, chipped crockery and more. It's so common now where the owners expect paying guests to clean the property before leaving, otherwise your bond is withheld (I understand there are a small number of guests who don't necessarily respect a property). These properties cost a lot to rent, you're better off staying in a hotel where you can just pack up and leave (still respecting the condition of the property). KI is a beautiful place to explore.

Unfortunately I can’t comment on the stay as 30mins after I booked and paid in full my booking was canceled. Found Lori to be short and unhelpful and passed me off to Stays. Still waiting for my money back after 3 days. Be careful booking this.
