Zhang Liang Malatang

I tried this place for my first time about a month ago and it definitely far exceeded my expectations in terms of taste and flavour, I can't eat spicy food so I chose the beef broth and my mum got the spicy soup. The taste was amazing, so much so that my fussy son even loved it and has actually requested to go back there. Also my pics aren't the best and don't do any justice...

Never disappoints. The super spicy soup is the way to go. They offer different levels of spiciness, with a variety of other soup bases. The beef is so soft and vegetables are always fresh.

Quite a great concept to have a meal on your own or to share. You grab your own ingredients and they will cook it for you to perfection. Virtually unlimited variety

I am not usually a fan of hotpot as usually it’s too spicy or I don’t like cooking in the middle of a big boiling pot of soup.

But this is different as you weigh and pay and then they cook it all for you. So all you need to do after you choose from the ever ready selection of different meats, proteins, vegetables, noodles, seafood, tofus, etc, etc, is the soup base and enjoy your creation.

The ingredients are fresh, with quite a bit of different variety from duck blood to half shell scallops. It really is yummy, fuss free and convenient food.

Pure genius!! Please be aware not to over fill your bowl with too much fillings as our 2x bowls weighed 1.3kg and 1.5kg. In the end they were put into 4x bowls when it came out to us. 4 people could only finish the 2x bowls so the rest we managed to takeaway so we get to eat it at home tomorrow. Yeah!!!

Great place with a nice selection of ingredients to make up your meal. Wise Woman (my wife) said she wanted to try this place for a light snack so of course my answer was “ok dear” lol. Being a wise woman, she challenged herself to pick ingredients as close to the 400g minimum as possible and she succeeded - luckily I wasn’t too hungry. She chose the tomato soup base and I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious it was. You can choose you own condiments and sauces on the side which is great and this made a nice accompaniment to the meal. Overall a nice experience but the next time we come here again I’m not sharing with wise woman and will get my own meal cause I want my own! Lol

Been here a few times before giving this review. Overall loved the food, the idea you can choose whatever food ingredients you like (charged by weight)...

Remember there is a minimum weight amount before you are allowed to place an order... choose the broth you like... we loved their spicy broth (medium)...

It’s one of the best malatang in Perth. They have many flavour of soup base such as beef bone, tomato, vegetarian, mushroom, and original. I tried malatang which is spicy level. It’s perfect.

Also, they have fresh ingredients in cold bain maries.

Situated inside Carousel shopping centre not far from Coles side. There are seats inside the shop & also outside of the shop in the middle section of the shopping centre area. The spicy soup base is just as good as the Sydney chain. The selection doesn’t have as many options however still great & freshly topped up. Also like how the meats are kept in the fridge area. If you love malatang then highly recommend this place👌🏼

Happy to add this restaurant as one of the top 3 hot pot spots in Perth. I usually go to normal hotpot restaurants, but this one is inside the mall. Very efficient, clean, no language barrier, fast paced and no hassle. The price range is similar to other hot pot places. We have to queue, but it's still not too long to get in. Taste wise is great too! They keep their ingredients fresh and filled properly.

Very tasty Noodle soups but be careful how much ingredients put in Ur bowl as thr cost can really add up. Mine ended up costing $30. And could have easily been shard by two people. The flavours were spicy and neuanced which was surprising for a shopping mall restaurant. But worth a try if u like spicy Asian Noodle soups.

Absolutely love their tomyum hot pot, so spicy and flavourful, and the broth stayed hot for a long time!
Plenty of topping ingredients to choose from and the place is clean. I also love how our original 1 bowe came out as 2 separate bowls to share easily.

Downside is very hard to find a table and queue can get quite long, but just shows that the place is worth trying! Price is similar to other hotpot places.

One of our favourite restaurants in Perth, Western Australia. My 3-year old daughter loves this place. She loves to eat their food. Staff are also friendly and helpful. Despite the long queue we've waited as the turn over of vacant table are fast which meant people are really sensitive not to take long to eat their food and when finished to go. The price is not expensive especially if you are eating in a group of people. You can also get discounts if you follow then in their fb and instagram page.

my personal fave among the multiple Perth hotpot choices. if you want great flavour spicy malatang this is the place to go. the mala chilli pepper has a good level of numbing effect to me, not too much. there are three spicy levels and I found the mid level was too spicy even though I enjoy spicy! I'd get the low level one next time. good variety of greens and tofu, the frozen sliced beef, pork and lamb is good quality once cooked, really good value too at $20 for a huge bowl, I can't finish it all in one go so it ends up being multiple dinners for me :)

Lovely place, fast service and you can just choose anything you want for your bowl of hotpot. Best Recommendation is the malatang beef soup, it was awesome 👏🏼
Just be very careful when you put a whole lot of food into your bowl, might not even be able to finish it as the bowl is huge haha

Finally, we got an authentic Chinese Malatang in Perth.
Can choose whatever you like to add to your bowl and different soup as well. It’s like your own hotpot.
My order was $29 (include drink), however I couldn’t even finish half of it, so I packed up for dinner.
Could be improved if there is a vegetarian section and put a bit more cutleries in the self service area(especially spoons).

Love the malatang soup in medium spicy, ingredients are well stocked, with clean cutlery provided.

It’s an add your own ingredients and pay by weight - just don’t fill your bowl to the brim as it’s very filling!

The cost is similar to other hotpot places so as with all of them just don’t get too many ingredients. However, I was really happy with my experience there. The wait time was quick even though I was skeptical to go at first as it looked VERY busy. And my noodles were actually delicious in the end! I also enjoyed how cute they looked as I chose some of the fish ball stars

Great food. You get to pick the ingredients (and they are fresh). Choose the soup base and the level of ‘spicy’.
Come hungry as the serving is generous. You choose how much food you add and how much you pay according to the weight, but there is a minimum.
