When I visited Dr Gallagher I was in serious pain and unable to stand or walk for any length of time so a full knee replacement was diagnosed and recommended. Dr Gallagher with his thorough care and fantastic colleagues, no risk assessment completed the surgery without any complications and to my and my family surprise I was able to go home with just a stick in three days this was after a full knee replacement, bone graft, and removal of several large calcified bodies. Dr Gallagher has confirmed why he is one of the best surgeons you could ever meet and I would definitely recommend him if you have any concerns in getting a knee replacement.

I have been a patient for many years at QKSC due to my ongoing arthritis issues. I have had several surgeries performed by John Gallagher and the team (Susan, Andrea, Jessica, Sarah and Rob). I wanted to share my recent experience at QKSC. I had knee surgery there and was very impressed with the entire process. Dr. Gallagher was fantastic - he took the time to thoroughly explain my situation, outlining all the available options. The surgery itself went perfectly, and I'm already feeling much better. I am 80 years of age and had total knee replacements for both knees within a period of 7 months. Dr. John Gallagher is an excellent surgeon and a very good communicator. He explained the details of the procedure clearly and gave me the confidence I needed as I was a little apprehensive.

After our 16 year old daughter ruptured her ACL playing touch football last year, our priority was to ensure she had the best treatment and care possible. Our research led us to make an appointment with Dr Gallagher from QKSC and make the 600+km trip from Central Queensland to see him. From the very first point of contact with the QKSC we knew our daughter would be in good hands. The admin staff were extremely knowledgeable and organised and had our daughter to see Dr Gallagher within the week. We were immediately impressed by Dr Gallagher’s level of expertise and the care and support he demonstrated. Surgery went exceptionally smoothly and our daughter was quickly able to begin the rehabilitation process. Follow up appointments at QKSC were always very thorough with physio, an assessment with the nurse, followed by a comprehensive appointment with Dr Gallagher. Our daughter is now in the final stages of her rehab, with the goal to return to sport in the next few months. It has been quite the journey and one we couldn’t have got through without Dr Gallagher and the entire team at QKSC. There is no doubt in our mind that Dr Gallagher is one of the finest knee surgeons and the QKSC team one of the most knowledgeable, helpful and caring, and it is for these reasons we highly recommended them.

I am a recipient of a right total knee replacement carried out by Dr John Gallagher and had the best experience ever, no pain to speak of (was off painkillers once I left hospital) and had such wonderful support throughout. It all started with Susan and Andrea at QKSC, Brisbane Private Imaging, Dr Wayne Kelly (peri operative Physician), Dr Richard Galluzzo the Anesthetist, Stephen Boyd the Physiotherapist whilst in hospital, the Brisbane Private Hospital medical staff and Rob Godbolt the Physiotherapist guiding me to a 7 week recovery. Awesome staff! They helped me through the long journey of a torn ACL and duel Meniscal tear whilst playing volleyball. Healed perfectly and it feels great! Everyone at the clinic is genuinely invested in ensuring a great outcome.

I would highly recommend QKSC for anyone who has knee problems. I first met the team in 2017, having a partial knee replacement. In 2022, I had torn my meniscus and required an arthroscopy and then a total knee replacement (TKR), in 2023, I had a TKR on my other knee. In every encounter with the QKSC team, I was treated with kindness, respect, compassion and the highest clinical care from trusted health professionals, and their practice staff. As a RN, I did my own research into choosing a surgeon and team, and I have been very happy with the care and results from surgery. Dr Gallagher is an exceptionally, highly skilled surgeon, who explains options and proceedures clearly, answering questions with clarity. Jess and Sarah, the RN's provide great support and care in their roles. Rob Godbolt (outpatient) and Stephen Boyd's (inpatient) physio teams are exceptional in their approach to your recovery, encouraging those early first steps and celebrating each goal achieved. From the first contact with QKSC, Susan and Andrea greet you with kindness and attend to any inquiries promptly. I experienced great care from the staff of Brisbane Private Hospital during each inpatient stay.
I believe patients have the best outcome, because of the cohesiveness of the team and they all put the patient's needs first. I am a grateful receipent of their care and expertise.

I had been suffering from osteoarthritis in both knees for 10 years. It had gotten to a point where I was waddling like a penguin because of my bent knees and severe pain.

After a referral from my GP, Dr John Gallagher arranged for X-rays and MRIs to be performed on my knees prior to our initial consultation. He answered all my questions and explained very thoroughly what the surgery would entail, post-operatively what to expect, and the timelines for rehabilitation. It was decided that I would need a Complex Primary Total Knee Replacement performed on my right knee, including a bone graft on my cyst-filled kneecap (or as Dr Gallagher described it, it was like ‘a moth-eaten sweater’).

I was constantly in awe at how smoothly things were run at QKSC. From the meticulous notetaking of my medical history to the various tests done to ensure that my body would withstand the operation. No stone was left unturned. Nothing was left to chance.

It's been four months since my operation, and I can say without reservation that Dr John Gallagher is indeed a skilled and meticulous knee surgeon. He is caring, reassuring and professional. While I was recovering in hospital, he would visit me twice daily, checking that my knee was properly iced, that I was managing my pain and making sure I was on track with my physiotherapy.

Dr Gallagher is supported by his caring and experienced clinical support team (practice manager Susan, nurse Sarah and administrative support Andrea). Special mention to physiotherapist Rob Godbolt, who always intuitively knew just by my gait, what exercises I needed to do to achieve the best outcome. He is the most experienced and knowledgeable physiotherapist I know.

Dr Gallagher is, dare I say, a perfectionist. I was a few degrees off a complete straight leg on my third month post-op, and he insisted that I needed to work harder to get it fully straightened for my own good.

I received my ‘gold medal’ on my fourth month - fully straight and with a drastically improved range of movement. On a recent trip to Sydney, I walked 15km two days in a row. More importantly, without pain.

I was fortunate to have found Dr Gallagher and his team and would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to them all. In due time, I will probably need my left knee fixed. When that time comes, I know I will be in good hands. I have no hesitation in recommending Dr Gallagher and the team at QKSC.

Dr Gallagher performed an ACL reconstruction on my right knee following a complete rupture. He was very professional and treated me with the utmost care. Communication with the team was clear, I was treated as soon as suited me and my need to travel for the procedure was well accommodated. Dr Gallagher and his trusty team are second to none. I had my right knee operated on 4 years ago and going strong and recently my Left knee to an amazing speedy recovery. I have no hesitation in recommending Dr Gallagher and his team of Professionals for anyone contemplating knee surgery.

Having put up with a damaged right knee since a work accident a little over 30 years ago, I have met/dealt with quite a few knee surgeons during this time and several surgeries. It was only 6 years ago that I was told by a friend of Dr. John Gallagher, and I was leading a life of daily restrictions and pain in my right knee. A HTO and 12 month later, I have never looked back, getting back onto the bicycle, doing some light jogging and enjoying life in general. Then, last year in April, some silly gallah (me, now 57), trips while building a retainer wall and snaps the ACL in the same knee by tripping with a couple of heavy concrete blocks in my arms. I was shipped off to a hospital, but having been under John's awesome care before, I insisted on 'patch me up', I am going to see John. It has now been 10 month since the Op, and I am back in my normal routine doing what I love, like walking the dogs, landscaping at home, light exercise to keep the ticker going.
The whole team at QKSC are just bloody awesome in their job but also they way they interact with you. It's like going to a family outing when visiting, with friendly and sincere smiles and laughter, yet having your best interest at heart. Though, Jess doesn't get you coffee when you're about to go into the operating theater; she clearly needs to work on that. :-)
Bottom line, if you want the best surgeon and team and a decent painless life, there is no better than Dr John Gallagher and his team. Thank you so much guys, you are giving me a life back that I enjoy.

I am certainly thankful that I found Dr John Gallagher for knee replacement. I had got to the point where I was in pain whenever I walked, particularly if I was going down stairs and experiencing any form of impact. Dr Gallagher was informative, interested in outcomes and thankfully a perfectionist.

My local GP referred me earlier to a knee surgeon but pointed out that he didn’t particular know of a “good one”, or one individual that he could recommend. After seeing that surgeon, I didn’t have the confidence to move forward with surgery. Then I started to research the capabilities, qualifications and histories of knee surgeons. I wanted to make an informed choice and this led me to Dr Gallagher.

I needed to do something about my knees as it was impacting my life. I had knee pain, I couldn’t walk any distance, and I was limited in the exercise I could do. I felt prematurely “old”.

My first meeting with Dr Gallagher helped me understand what was going to happen, what I could expect out of the surgery and what to do beforehand. He gave me the confidence to move forward.

Now one year down the track I know that Dr Gallagher has given me back not just painless knees but a restored lifestyle. Things I couldn’t do without pain were back on the agenda; cycling, walking, rowing (and bouncing down stairs!). All of these have given me a new lease on life.

With both knees done at the same time; one week in hospital, I was up on my legs pretty much straight away from hospital (gently of course) and threw away crutches after another week or so. My recovery was relatively painless, but I did ensure that I undertook the physio exercises, and took the advice not to overdo it.

Today I have a great range of movement, and I am painless with the joy of now being back to being an active person enjoying life. What made a difference? Dr Gallagher is meticulous in his approach – so it wasn’t a surprise when things went so well; he is informative to the point where you do understand what to do, and how to progress through recovery with a minimum of risk. This is a journey, and you need someone to guide you in addition to getting the surgery right! I understand a little now of the complexity of getting this surgery right, thanks to the time Dr Gallagher takes to help you through this process. It would be easy to think that it’s just a replacement. But it is a restoration of lifestyle, so for something as important as that, you need someone that takes the time and attention to get this complex procedure right – given my experience, my choice would always be without question Dr Gallagher.

Dr Gallagher and his admin and surgical teams are truly the best in the business. The briefings, the no rushed fully informed consultations through to the operation and his absolute cleanliness to reduce any chance of infection is Five Star. He comes and visits you morning and night whilst your in hospital and he genuinely cares about your rehab, even when his job is finished.

Had my knee replacement done at the end of January 2022. I couldn't be happier with regard to the result. I was very apprehensive about having surgery but Dr. Gallagher and his support team gave me the confidence to have it done. Dr. Gallagher's conviction that he would fix my knee, convinced me to trust him and go ahead. My knee replacement was more complex due to inflammatory arthritis and I was told that recovery could be longer than the normal three months. My progress after surgery has been amazing. My use of crutches only lasted a few days and by ensuring that I followed instructions etc. I was getting around easily within weeks. I am now 7 months "down the track" and have just come back from an overseas trip. I walked with my daughter approx 5 km every day and another 3 to 4 km during the day sightseeing (approx. between 15,000 to 20,000 steps per day). All thanks to the amazing skills of Dr. Gallagher and the help of his support team. I am very grateful to them for giving me back my freedom of being able to walk without pain issues.

I had a fantastic result after a complicated patella realignment and stabilisation surgery by Dr Gallagher, 1 year post-op and I haven’t felt this confident with my knee stability since before my first injury 15 years ago.

Rob looked after me with my post-op rehab physio and got be back on my feet, and nurse Jessica helped me with medicines and pain management. Susan from reception was extremely efficient and communication was always excellent. Highly recommend

Throughout the whole procedure of my complete ACL reconstruction with complex tears and my current ongoing rehabilitation, I have been incredibly grateful for Dr Gallagher and the team at the Queensland Knee Surgery Clinic. His transparency, professionalism and dedication for perfection have miraculously healed my ruptured ACL and menisci and enabled me to get back onto two feet and in the near future, return to sport. Also, physiotherapist Rob Godbolt's generosity and encouragement, combined with his endless knowledge of injuries and post-op treatment, have motivated me to continue and improve further. I have been using Dr John Gallagher at the QLD knee surgery clinic in Brisbane since 2016 where I had my first knee reconstruction surgery from complete acl tear on my left knee among other problems with my legs and knees. The team and Dr Gallagher himself have been absolutley exceptional with positive results and communication. I have now had 4 surgeries with this team and planning on a 5th later this year. Ps. Dr John Gallagher conducted TKR's on both my knees. The first on 20 January 2020 and the second on 1 June 2020. What an amazing team the Doctor has surrounded himself with. My dealings with Susan, Jess and Leanne were very easy due to the professional way they conduct their business and the comfortable and friendly manner in which I was treated.
