This museum has some amazing history of Queensland. There are lots of stories about how post colonial Queensland was made. There is some pretty great videos by some old surveyors too. The best thing is this was free and right in the middle of Brisbane City.

What a fantastic place. We got the best guided tour of the museum by Kaye. She is so knowledgeable about the surveying and cartographic history of Queensland. It's well worth the visit. I learned so much.

A goldilocks museum: not too much information but not too little either, just enough signs and artefacts to give a good overview of the role of mapping and surveying in QLD. Items of interest include an 1880s border post, equipment for land sale lotteries, old field surveying and map making equipment. My only criticism was that there were hardly any actual maps on show. Allow 30 minutes for a good look around. It is a free attraction but is now only open Tues and Thurs.

Covid 19 update: "The Museum of Lands, Mapping and Surveying is closed to visitors until further notice." (June 2020)

Great little museum about the history of early Australian surveying and mapping. Contains numerous examples of equipment used by surveyors.

Best mapping museum i've seen today.
I'm sure many people walk past and don't realise it is there.
If you are wanting to visit, look for the "317" sign.

The museum carpark is not open to the public, but pay parking is available at nearby public carpark.

There were more security guards than visitors.
