The Montague Hotel

Came across the Montague on a walk, was so happy we did! The food was the best pub food we’ve had so far in Brisbane. I really recommend the half chicken, it was delicious. The gravy had so much flavour and we loved the chips. Staff were really friendly.

The Montague Hotel, also known as "The Monty," is a welcoming and homely pub bistro located on the corner of Montague Road and Kurilpa Avenue in West End, Brisbane.

Food
My wife and I shared an entrée of lemon and pepper calamari ($14), which was the perfect way to start our meal. The calamari was warm and chewy, and nicely presented on a stylish dark plate with a creamy mayonnaise dip, a slice of lemon, and a few sprigs of lettuce. For mains, I had the meatball spaghetti ($24) and my wife had the haloumi and vegetable stack ($22). My meatball spaghetti was delicious, with chunky meatballs in a tangy tomato sauce. The pasta was nice and soft, just the way I like it. My wife's haloumi and vegetable stack was fresh and tasty, and the word "stack" in the description was quite appropriate, as it was arranged in a neat tower-like structure with a few lettuce leaves perched on top. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals.

Service
The service at The Monty was absolutely fantastic, from the friendly bar manager to the polite and efficient waitress who delivered our food. We ordered drinks at the bar and then used the app to order our meals. It was all quick and easy, and within minutes, our meals were on the table in the correct order, with the calamari starter followed by the two main meals. And it was all done with a friendly smile. I later went up to the bar to sign onto the member program, and the same barman who served me my drinks gave me the form, explained how it all worked, and had brought out my new membership card within a few minutes. It was a pleasure to enjoy such fine service.

Atmosphere
We visited The Monty on a Sunday night, so it was relatively quiet, but there were enough other guests to create a nice buzz. The Monty is a large venue with multiple dining areas, both inside and outside. It's airy, spacious, and comfortable, ideal for summer dining with the doors flung wide open. However, I imagine it could get a bit chilly in winter. The décor is modern and stylish, with wooden furniture, striking latticework features, strong lighting, and an interesting gallery of old photos on the back wall. It all works well to create a cool and inviting ambience.

Cost
Prices at The Monty are reasonable, especially considering the current hyperinflationary economic climate. Schooners of my favourite Byron Bay lager were on special for $8, and a shot of Baileys with milk and ice for my wife was $10. Our food order, of one starter and two main meals, plus the credit card surcharge and a small tip, came to $64. That's fair value, I think, especially in these days when prices are rising so quickly.

Toilets
The toilets are clean, well-maintained, and easy to find. I liked the interesting sound absorbent wallpaper on the walls.

Parking
Street parking is a breeze anywhere along Kurilpa Road, just a few metres from the venue. There are ample spaces and it's free and unrestricted after 7pm.

Summary
We had a great time at The Monty on a quiet Sunday night. The food was excellent, the service was outstanding, and the atmosphere was relaxed and inviting. I would definitely recommend The Monty for a fun night out with family and friends.

There are plenty of specials during the week, both for food and drink, so it's worth checking out the website to see what's on.

Excellent food and service very busy so quite loud making conversation difficult but overall great experience. Will definitely return and recommend. Really good selection of craft beers 🍺.

Great little hotel pub. Visited on a Saturday night when there was live music on, an incredible solo woman on guitar and voice. Only downfall was there were few seats in the bar section that were near the music area, simply due to the layout. We sat in the edge of the gaming section, which was still absolutely fine for eating and drinking, but is the only downfall as lose a little of the atmosphere. But I would definitely visit again, really enjoyed the music and the food was delicious!

Had lunch with friends. Food was fabulous. Just had lunch with my family. Was awesome. From the barramundi to the steak, battered fish , burgers and kids meals. Service was amazing, but highly recommend the food. Just fantastic. Will definitely come again. Desserts were great as well

I totally disagree with Tod Parker's review. The Monty has improved considerably in the past 12 months. It's always been a great place to go but I think service is better and the staff at the moment are always friendly and welcoming. The food has always been good. And I think the doors to the balcony have only been closed to keep the air-con running inside.

First time coming to “The Monty” and as a young guy I always find it quite nerve racking visiting a new bar, however the staff here were super nice and accommodating, it instantly took that nervousness away. Some of the staff seemed around the same age as me and I didn’t realise we could act so professional 😂 The food was great and the atmosphere was even better, definitely a 10/10 would recommend 👌🏻

Everytime I walk into this venue I feel like my needs are always met. All the staff are fantastic and food and beverages are served fast and with a professional manner. I have to say one of the best places to go in West End/ Brisbane. And the trivia is amazing!!

The perfect place to chill and relax with good friends. The staff are always friendly, which is a nice touch! Their live music sessions are a bonus, I've heard a number of talented musicians, which makes it extra hard to leave.

Really excellent food with a good selection on offer. The lamb burger was very nice, vegie stack was good and the spaghetti meatballs were also excellent. Clean plates all round.

Nice neighbourhood hotel. Attentive staff with good service and pet friendly.

Love coming here for trivia. Atmosphere on point with the open balcony in a neat lil spot. Food has NEVER disappointed me.

Great menu, good quality food, very nice venue with lots of outdoor seating

Very welcoming atmosphere, every single staff member we came into contact with were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
Food was fantastic, great to see a pub that actually does kids parmies (half a normal size, just perfect). Steak was very tender and cooked perfectly. We are not from Melbourne, but next time we are visiting we will be back!

Amazing food and great prices. Come here every time after a good gym or rock climbing session.

Look the Gue is a historical treasure that delivers nothing but the finest beer and food. Only hang up is that they seem to still allow children on the premises, but hey we all make mistakes, it's important to focus on the positives. The customer service is phenomenon the location is great and as you can see from my photo the beer is COLD.

People are amazing, but what’s even more amazing is that chicken curry omg. Feels like I’m blessed everytime I eat it!

The Montague Hotel is a good addition to the West End. It offers good selection of beers and wines on tap. There is a happy hour and complimentary canapés. The service is good. Wi-Fi is available to patrons.

Never a dull moment!

This venue always looks after the locals, willing to go above and beyond to ensure customer satisfaction. Can not recommend it more highly. If you live in West End and are thinking about where to go, there is no place better than the 'Gue.
