The midwives were great! They care for you and your baby and have always taken the time to check on you. The Special Nursery Care has been a gem in caring for my daughter, always encouraging and supportive of the parents, especially the mothers. Shout out to Toni, Jo, and Rose!!!! They are our favourites who have cared so much for our baby Olivia - they are experts and we highly recommend Wesley Maternity Department as they are composed of experienced people.

I had my baby at the Wesley 2 weeks ago and I cannot fault them. The care was second to none, not only from the nurses and midwives but also from the food services staff, cleaners and porters. I felt listened to and respected throughout my stay. My baby needed to spend a night in special care and the nurses and midwives made sure I was kept up to date while she was away from me. I highly recommend the Wesley Maternity service to anyone.

Have just returned home after spending a week on the Maternity ward being cared for by the very best nurses one could hope to come across. I wasn't a maternity patient and yet they treated me with the utmost care, compassion and empathy and made what was a frighteningly unexpected and serious visit, almost pleasurable. Huge Kudos to Manager Judy Factor for her Awesome team of beautiful Nurses. Much love. Mandy Watt

The midwives at The Wesley provided incredible care and helpful tips on dealing with a newborn. My husband refers to my time in the maternity ward as "baby bootcamp." I also liked that the maternity rooms felt homely and comfortable, more like a hotel and less like a typical hospital!

I had a planned c section and that was my second delivery. I wanted to breastfeed and was very clear from the beginning. However, one of the nurses and my pediatrician was pushing me to give formula. Luckily, because this was my second baby and I knew what I was doing, I didn't give up on breastfeeding.
With ordering meal for partner I had to fill up 3 forms just for one meal because they kept giving me the wrong form; very disorganized in that regard.
I had few incidents that nurses were rude and I was actually uncomfortable around them.(couple of them were very lovely though)
you cannot take your bub out for fresh air so I had to stay indoors for the whole duration (6 days).
All in all I was very disappointed and I won't recommend The Wesley Private Hospital to anyone.

The Wesley Hospital, Brisbane. If you’re booked in to have a baby or you’re thinking about having a baby at the Wesley, take the best advice you can get around this issue and find another place to have your baby. Even if it means finding another Dr. So let’s start by clarifying that the midwives and Drs. are wonderful and knowledgeable and caring; and this not a commentary about them, but that is where it stops, the rest is a nightmare that no post-natal mother should have to endure. The Wesley has the most abhorrent conditions for recovery which you will have to endure for the four or five days of your visit. We couldn’t get out of there fast enough which is just plain wrong.

The stay after your baby is born will be the most traumatic part of your pregnancy, opposed to what should be a restful time to bond with your baby and recover (shock who would have thought you needed that).

This was our second baby and we had a choice of hospitals with our wonderful Dr, but chose the Wesley for convenience and mistakenly though a well established hospital like the Wesley would have a good standard of care. Human rights lawyers would have a field day if maximum security prisoners were subjected to deliberate sleep deprivation torture, yet the Wesley has decided that placing a nerve piercing buzzer outside the rooms to let you know that one of the up to 30 other mothers on the entire ward needs something and when she hasn’t got it, it will repeatedly go off every 30 seconds, is a good idea. I wonder if any of the management has tried to sleep a night on the ward?

On a busy day/night (lots of those), it means this buzzer will sound continuously for hours in order to ensure that you get absolutely no rest. The idea of a pager (1980’s technology) based system for this, so that everyone on the ward isn’t subjected to sleep depravation torture seems a step too far for the Wesley. And if this buzzer isn’t going off, some poorly sealed door in the ward will be slammed shut, some ancillary staff member will use their football field voice outside your room at 4am in the morning (or any time in-fact), some moronic food service person will think it’s a good idea to unexpectedly burst into your darken room and wake a sleeping baby (it’s a maternity ward you dim wits) and yourself; if you have managed to pass out from pure exhaustion at 6:15am to ensure you are awake and know what today’s menu is, not actual breakfast, just the days menu.

The rooms have no sound insulation so you will get to hear every other baby cry (and be worried about your own baby waking others).

The uncomfortable hospital beds are single and impossible for you to lay with you baby on without fear of crushing them and the food ration are designed for 80 year olds who don’t eat much, not a recovering mother with milk coming in and a baby to feed. I was refused more and had to get my husband bring additional food in (I weigh 55kg so hardly a pig). So if we haven’t convinced you to find somewhere else immediately or can’t, we wish you the best and hope you can make it out as soon as you can to find some rest and recovery at home.
