The museum has a lot of interesting information about mining and opal formation and there are so many different opals to feast your eyes upon. If you love opals, and gems in general it is a must see.

You can also choose out of the bin of random opal rocks to have one polished and maybe get lucky with some nice pieces!

Thank you to Bryce for the nicely polished opal, and Susan and Misha for the lovely conversions. It was a great day to spend a few hours!

Lovely museum, beautiful displays of different types of opals and their history. Nice to come here with friends or alone, entree fee is only 10$

Place is beautiful and brilliant. Fantastic customer service. I can't comment on the tour itself as I didn't do it. They have plenty of beautiful opals to purchase, a mystery box. My favourite was definitely the fossicking area. Just spray the stones with water , grab the magnifying glass and watch specks of raw opal come to life under the light. Fossicking area really fit my vibe, and uber cheap at $10/stone. $150 later, worth it !

I had a wonderful experience purchasing my engagement ring from New Zealand. Geoff made the entire process very special and memorable. The ring arrived promptly, and the stones are absolutely stunning. I highly recommend this jeweler to anyone considering ordering from abroad, as the ring came perfectly sized and presented in a beautiful wooden box. I have since recommended this jeweler to my friends, and they have also had positive experiences.

Visited 25/03/2024.

Great place to visit. It is very informative and all explained in simple language. Besides the Opals they also have a small display of other minerals of Australia and Overseas.

The opal shop has a nice variety of jewellery for all budgets.

All staff was very lovely.

Finally popped in for a sticky beak after driving by for many years, mostly just to see what there was to see. After a lap Bryce popped up to offer help and assistance, he had a very genuine and comfortable approach to helping without being pushy or trying to drive a sale with me which I appreciated. He was able to talk me through the services of the shop and aided in me making a purchase and organising resizing on a piece. I will be happy to visit again.

We stumbled upon the Opal Museum as our first stop in Queensland, and were very, very grateful to the lady at the museum who kindly introduced us to all the history of the opal, taught us to differentiate between the types, and learnt a lot about the opal!

Such a fantastic experience. The 5$ self your is a quarter of the fun. Finding your own opals in the large off cuts and having them polished was the highlight for sure.

The staff are super friendly and VERY knowledgeable. Make sure to stop here on your trip!

Special thanks to Bryce, Susan, and Misha.

Fantastic museum! National/local and overseas geological pieces on exhibition. I liked the touchpad handoff at the entrance - I think I haven't seen that feature before. Staff is super attentive too. Definitively worth checking out!

My partner had my engagement ring made through the opal museum and it is stunning! Most importantly the whole experience with them was amazing. We went and looked at rings earlier in the year and the staff were so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I had been to jewellers to look at rings and they were so pushy I was getting anxiety but the staff here were so amazing and it made my ring even more special. If you are considering an opal ring or any other opal jewellery definitely go here you won't be disappointed. Can't recommend it enough. Thank you to everyone at the museum for everything!

We loved our visit to the opal museum, we found a young gentleman called Bryce who worked there, who was very knowledgeable.
We would recommend a visit to see the stunning opals at the museum.

It dosen't look like a real museum first but an Opal shop. You need to get in the shop and then you will be led to an Informative place. There are two lovely people helping you with your questions. There is a 7 minutes movie about Opal as well that you can watch it while sitting on the comfortable coach. After taking the tour, now it's time to try it with 3D glassess to see the differences. It's amazing and fun.
The shop dosent have a big collection of Opals but fortunately I could find what I was looking for.

If you're a fan of opals, look no further. Geoff is a man who lives and breathes opals and has a genuine passion for what he does that is sorely lacking in a lot industries these days. The museum itself is a treasure and educational and the store has so many precious stones of all price ranges so everyone can afford something. We have purchased 6 opals off him in the last year and it pains my wallet to say we'll be purchasing a lot more in the future. Do yourself a favour and check it out.

Love Australia and also opals, so just a matter of time til I bought my own opal from the shop online. Although I have never personally visited the museum it will be on my list on my next visit. Received my opal pendant in good time considering the effects of Covid, beautifully presented in its box and wonderful blue sparkles when it catches the light. Great purchase, very happy. Many thanks from the UK

I love this shop! We visited the museum and got the opportunity to meet Geoff; he is so passionate about the opals that it was contagious. We are from the U.S. and the afternoon at the museum/store was so much fun, and we are extremely happy with the jewelry we bought. have been shopping online since back home and have another three pieces on lay away. This jewelry makes great gifts! You can feel safe shopping with this store. We have another trip to Brisbane planned for next February and definitely plan to spend another afternoon here!
