We recently did the Mary Valley Rattler with High Tea for Mother's Day. A very pleasant experience, nice food, drinks etc. The staff were friendly and attentive at all times and gave us informative information whilst on the trip. It was nice to see the Mary Valley up close as we have only driven past this area. The turn-a-round was at Dagun. The Mary Valley Rattler experience is a hidden gem and we would recommend it. The Steam Train looks inviting ... a future prospect down the track.

Fantastic experience! Food and the coffee at the station were delicious (the pie was worth $). Kids loved walking up and down platform beforehand and seeing it all, we found the museum quite interesting to read. Then we were aboard and the ride was lovely with the car volunteer adding lots of information about surrounding area as we went. Be quick to get food at the town stop, we grabbed sandwiches & lollies from the general store instead of cafe. The seats were comfortable, views lovely, historical information wasn't boring, and made for a great day out in Gympie. Would reccomend to anyone going through Gympie.

Well we loved it, what a great day the service was fantastic, the staff were very friendly and engaging. The train ride was excellent, very peaceful and relaxing. We did not order from the cafe, would have been good to know there was food available on the train to purchase, I didn't see this anywhere on the website, maybe I missed it?
We had a booking for 4 but my parents car broke down and couldn't make it, I received a credit on the day which I was very happy about, thank you.
I would highly recommend; it was such a lovely experience.

Great experience! We appreciated the trip on the beautifully and detailed restored steam train a lot! Those wooden cars with them old red comfy seat benches made all the difference. Hopping in the driver cabin of the locomotive, getting everything explained by the proud experienced driver was amazing!
Kudos to the team of volunteers and those thousands of hours they put in to have everything in good service today! Highly recommend!!

We had a great day, my 4yo son loved it and we ticked off another old time train ride. Nice day out, definitely worth the trip. Also, Volunteer Susie in carriage 521 was fantastic, went out of her way to make our day and give my son a wonderful experience! Thanks Susie!

The Mary Valley Rattler is a fantastic steam train journey from Gympie to Amamoor, I’ve been on this steam train a few times including before Covid. It’s a wonderful trip filled with wonderful sounds and smell's that you can only get on a journey like this. The Village Green at Amamoor has a wonderful little cafe for drinks and snacks that is well laid out with plenty of seating and even live music on the day we were there.

We used the Black Friday sale last yr for 2x half price regular tickets as Christmas gifts (because unfortunately the standard price is a bit outside of our budget at the moment) and had been wanting to do the Rattler for yrs. We used our passes recently on a Sunday and it was a fantastic day out! We booked fairly late so we were in the carriage with dogs but that was fine. Prior notice would be good though, not when we arrived but anyway! The trip was fantastic, the stops and activities were too, the service was friendly, we would suggest the team members doing the commentating obtain a little more speaking experience and confidence to make it easier for guests to listen to and follow but the information delivered was great. Would definitely return and bring some rellies of all ages who'd love it too. Oh, we didn't realise we could take food on board before we arrived, that's a nice bonus. Thanks for keeping this vintage and special train travel experience alive! 👏 Clint and Aimee 😊

We enjoyed a Sunday run on the Mary Valley Rattler in the VIP Club Car. What a fantastic day and wonderful historical experience. The Club Car was set-up beautifully with comfortable bucket chairs and a table, with a copy of the Gympie paper and a bottle of water each in a souvenir cooler. We were provided a drink of choice and a cheese platter on the journey. Stopped at Amamoor and watched the engine turn around then stopped at Dagun on the way back. Wonderful volunteers, music, games and stalls. On return to Gympie we enjoyed a two course lunch in the Rusty Rails Cafe and another drink of choice. We had a fabulous day and thought the VIP tickets were well worth the experience. So great to see how everyhing has been lovingly restored and a such a special piece of QLD history. Thank you!

We took a ride on the "Gold Heist Special" today. Lots of travelers joined in the fun & got dressed up for the occasion. John was our carriage guard & he was very imformative about the journey & knowledgeable about everything to do with steam trains & carriages. Then we had the entertainment, who gave us a funny sad story before proceeding to rob us of our Gold (bags of gold were provided). Great fun. Train stopped at Amamoor to turn the steam engine around, we were then able to get off train & head to Village green cafe for lunch.

An excellent day trip! Went as a group of 16 to celebrate a 70th. We had 3x booths in carriage 527. The booking process was easy, the staff and volunteers were efficient and just all round lovely, and they did a shout out to the birthday boy over the PA. A lovely ride through the valley, with some excellent wine & cheese tasting in Dagun (Sunday run). A trumpet player serenaded each carriage before we departed. We brought our own picnic basket of food but also purchased some snacks and drinks from the trolley service while we rode.
Highly recommend, especially if your kids have never experienced a steam engine.

Amazing experience riding the beautiful Mary Valley Rattler to Amamoor. Completely run by volunteers it is well worth the money, I travelled in the VIP carriage and the ticket included a complimentary drink, lovely cheese and fruit platter and a very nice lunch at the Station cafe on our return. Big thank you to our carriage attendant Brad, he was a pleasure to have on board and was amazing keeping drinks up to us and sharing a laugh. I highly recommend this rail trip to anyone, The train ride is 3 hours, which includes the 1 hour stay in Amamoor.

Well, what a day! Fantastic experience, we loved every minute. All staffed by volunteers, we had the lovely Deb & Sherrie in our carriage, and they absolutely made the adventure even better!!! So much fun, and a good laugh! Great job girls!👍🏼
Be sure to check your days/dates, they don't run the steam engine every day.
Pack your own food, or buy from the cafe at either end of the journey. OR You can even order your lunch whilst on the train, and it will be waiting for you when you get back. We took this option, and the food was delicious! Packaged beautifully, we sat and ate it in the old station Cafe.

The train ride was amazing!! Thanks to the kindly staff, we've got upgraded seats and that was really nice especially for our kids.
The views, sounds, nature and lovely staffs were fantastic. We enjoyed whole 3 hours. I had a blueberries muffin in the train, it was best muffin I ever had, also pies we had at Amamoor staition store were really nice too.
Wish we arrived earlier in the morning to have look around station and have a breakfast at cafe, but we didn't have time for it. Will definitely visit again soon.

We did the Spooky Train ride and the kids LOVED IT! Such a great atmosphere, the characters were AMAZING! They really brought the train to life with their personalities, their interactions with passengers. Food was delicious, really enjoyed the pasta and the kids love their lunch boxes they get to take home. Definitely going to do another train ride and have already booked it! See you all again. Thank you everyone who made the train ride an AWESOME experience for my kids and myself. Everyone made us feel very welcomed from the moment we arrived at the station to the moment we left. The crew are very friendly.

Perfect morning out for train enthusiasts. A volunteer run steam railway.
Lovely restored carriages and an interesting route. This is a must for anyone looking for a different tourist experience, although most of the other passengers seemed to be local, which actually makes it better.

Fantastic day out for all the family, volunteers are brilliant, the 2 planned stops are interesting, I think the train is called Rattler because you get rattled so much, well worth a visit

Great experience. The trip through the countryside after the rain was beautiful. Lots of scenic spots for shutter bugs. The volunteers are to be commended for the great job they do. We will definitely be recommending this to others. Congratulations!! 😃

We had the VIP option for $260 for two. We had our own private cabin, a wonderful volunteer attendant, Ralph, who was very friendly and attentive, 2 glasses of Prosecco, bottles of water, 2 delicious cheese and sausage platters with linen napkins, a wonderful 2 hour return ride to delightful Amamoor (50 minute stop) and a 2 course meal - roast pork, cheesecake, - with drinks back at Gympie Station. Overall around 4 hours of 'old world' travel experience. All the staff were friendly and waved us off and greeted us back. Great value and very enjoyable.
