Such a lovely place. Very well reconditioned trains mingled with those on the waitlist for reconditioning, an amazing step back in time and also encouraging to return again and again.

Got a brilliant tour and history lesson about these locomotives from one of the friendly volunteers. Some are beautifully restored and others are succumbing to the elements. It's not cleanly curated like a museum, more like a work in progress train restoration project, so set your expectations accordingly. I thought it adds to the charm.

1:1 scale with all the trimmings! A working turntable, Roundhouse brimming with rolling stock and the elegant engines of yesteryear. NSW Rail history is alive and well. If you're lucky the model rail peeps will have their layout running too. Passionate volunteers add a sense of community and authenticity.

Visited this Treasure for Rail lovers a few years ago. What a wonderful experience!
So much History!
The lovely Volunteers who showed us around were so passionate about everything to do with Trains.

Well worth the visit I learned so much about the history of trains and the purpose of each one. I was given a personalised tour by one of the staff members. It was worth the small entrance fee to gain so much knowledge. A must visit. Give yourself an hour.

I had a really lovely visit to the Goulburn Rail Heritage Centre. It’s possible to do a day trip to here either via a train to Goulburn station and then getting a local taxi, or by car.

Tickets were very cheap at only $10 and one of the volunteers gave me a tour around the place. You could go into the cabs, go underneath the trains, and there’s quite a few hands on activities too. If you’re a train enthusiast like me, this is like heaven!

They also have places where private owners of locomotives and carriages can use their space to restore their stuff.

A must do when in Goulburn!

A must visit in Goulburn especially for the train lovers.

This place has a huge collections of trains as well as the largest operating turntable in Australia.

Visit can only be conducted by guided tour and booking is essential.

The guide is very friendly and knowledgeable.

There is a small museum within the complex with collection of some rare items.

Gloves and masks are provided to protect the trains and also Covid 19.

Went here between Wagga and Sydney. Absolutely amazing place for rail buffs like myself. A collection of rare and interesting locomotives and rolling stock from all different eras, trains your get up into and touch. Our guide was knowledgeable and knew the history of the trains and local area, not to mention friendly and kind. It’s amazing what the volunteers have managed without significant Gov funding. The old roundhouse is lovely, although it’s seen better days.
I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Goulburn or just passing along the Hume. It’s accessible to children and older folks as well, for those passionate about the railways or those with an interest in history generally. Don’t be mistaken though, this museum isn’t one of those professional well curated and funded places. It doesn’t need to be and as long as your not expecting that you won’t be disappointed.

Such an amazing place. For only $10 entry we got a private tour for over an hour. I would have paid more if I had known that. So much history there with steam trains, carriages and locomotives over 100 years old. Let alone the round house with is also over 100 years old. Not a place for kids but worth a trip from Sydney to spend a couple of hours there.

Unpretentious display of interesting engines, carriages and other rail related paraphernalia. Thank you to the volunteers that preserve these trains and run the centre. Our whole family found it really interesting.

I wasn’t really sure what to expect but it turned out to be really wonderful. One of the best pit stops when driving to Canberra. Take the tour and hear all the details. They let you right up into the trains and under some of them to see how they work.

An era long past. This place is one of a kind. A must see for the whole family. A look at what used to travel the rail tracks over the last 100 years. This is another volunteer museum with some of the volunteers as ex-railway workers who reminisce the heritage value of what the repair and look after. Government money is short on the funding list. Next weekend 25-26th May 2019 is a Celebration of the Arrival of the Railway into Goulburn at Goulburn Railway Station, Belmore Park, "Goulburn Rail Heritage Centre, 12 Braidwood Road.

I went there for Streamliners 2022 and had a great time with my nephew and caught up with some of my railway family that I haven't seen for a few years.

Great piece of railway history. The tours are guided and the guides know the history as they are former workers. The restoration projects are impressive. Well worth stopping in if your in the area. 3 to 4 hours should be long enough.
