I went when I was in Goulburn and had an amazing experience! I love vinyl collecting and there were boxes upon boxes of vinyl and a record player to test if they worked. I got to add some CDs I have been searching for. I would recommend going if you are a collector or just have a general interest.

The Argyle Emporium (The Old Police Station) was amazing 🤩

It had such a large variety of books, records, collectables, magazines, comics and other quirky stuff ✔👌

It was so big, it felt like you were walking through a maze from each section to the next. 🤩

The guy was super helpful and knew where all the books 📚 were,
which was simply amazing considering how many books & collectables were in the Emporium. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

If you want THAT book that you can’t find anywhere else, you will %100 find it here!

I hesitate to leave a five star review... I'm still not sure what kind of trap the Argyle is, but it's clear to me that neither she nor the cleverly disguised fae at her front desk are entirely from this world, and I don't know that either need my mortal endorsement. At first you think this is just a quirky book store. The gentleman at the front waves vaguely and welcomes us all as we file in.

"Huh," you think as you peruse that first carefully curated room, "small, but beautifully put together." Then the rooms start and as you pass through each one, things get curiouser and curiouser. Narrow corridors draw you deeper inside and as you go you notice chairs placed exactly where you'd wish to sit. But there are also bolted doors. And a skeleton.

Books you've been looking for, for literal years, peek at you from cluttered shelves. From rows and shelves of albums, forgotten music you'd given up on finding magically appears, complete with the special edition insert everyone always loses first. No need to wonder whether the record is scratched,
there's a player with "try me" on it. The sound is resonant and beautiful.

Unease creeps in. Where are you? A map on the wall seems thoughtful and helpful. You take a photo with your phone but no matter how hard you try to use it to navigate, you remain lost. One section seems to have no doorway for access on the map and indeed you don't find one, you're just suddenly in the craft section you swore couldn't possibly exist.

This is where my journey ends. I find a book I lost years ago, one I've been searching for ever since. Goosebumps on my skin, I open this version and my name is already printed inside the front cover. Time to go. I take it to the counter and the gentleman smiles while he adds the cost of my hoard. "Would you like a receipt?" Absolutely not.

In the car my husband and children are silent. "Absolutely haunted," says the oldest "and definitely not entirely on this plane of existence." We compare notes. All of us found at least one section no one else saw. No one realised how long we'd been there. Somehow we all just knew when it was time to leave and found our way back to the front.

On this, we agree. The Argyle and her steward are not of this world. But they are both...highly recommended.

A glorious experience, and it's hard not to come out with something... May not even be a book!
In winter, I can't stress enough the need to go in dressed warm. Jackets and gloves if you want to enjoy getting lost.
A spectacular book shop, an absolute joy.

Awesome place that has way more books than I thought! The guy working there was super helpful too.

You could spend a day there and still not be across everything they have. If you're a book lover of any kind you HAVE to visit.

Decently priced as well

This is by far the most amazing hidden secret when it come to books, music, art and architecture. Housed in Goulburns original police station and court house. You can easily get lost for hours.

Possibly the best book store on the continent. Staff are exceptionally friendly, book selection is perfectly unpredictable, and there are a lot of books sold there that you can't find in any normal book stores. Worth visiting for anyone who likes or admires any form of books whatsoever.

Tons of books. It's bigger in the inside. Looks small from the outside but it never ends once you enter. If you are a book lover save at least 40-60 minutes to take your time. Staff are incredibly helpful.

Wow, what a wonderful institution! Room upon room of books, media and collectibles. Every turn leads to another trove full to the brim, quite incredible. All very well arranged and presumably sorted, which no doubt took a lot of work. The building itself was delightful, conjuring fantasies of a mesmerising home should someone ever be in such an enviable position. The chap at the front desk was brilliant, so cheerful and engaging. Long live the Emporium! Support it lest we lose it, buy something.

this place is great! Labyrinth layout in the old police building. Piled to the ceiling with second hand books, DVDs, and records.

It can be cold in winter tho - bring your warmest jacket!

Make sure you check out the whole place, it is huge. A variety of rooms and hallway full of books to explore. You will definitely find a thing or two! Highly recommended.
