It was blowing a gale. It was freezing cold. But, we had a lovely time. The tables were clean. The park was clean. On a really sunny day, there isn't a lot of shade.

We really love this 'beach'. Have been bringing my kids here since they were little and I'm pretty sure it will be a core memory for them. You have to check tide times if you're hoping to swim but because it's a tidal beach the water is never frigid and it's wading depth and calm. At high tide you can be right next to the water, under the shade of gorgeous trees. No 500 metre trek over hot, shadeless sand to reach the water. As for the park itself, there are two decent playgrounds, lots of sheltered BBQ areas and toilets on site.

Update 10/11/2023:
All the baby birds from spring have now hatched, beware of crossing paths with mum and dad plover because their little ball of lint is sure to be walking around nearby!

Original:
Busy little spot on weekends if you're near the tables or playground. A pleasant place to walk on the water, watch the ibis, listen to the birds and simply relax.

Great spot to swim at high tide. Good park equipment for kids, both toddler and older ones. Gym equipment. Some shade spots on the beach under trees, but suggest bring your own at peak times. Cafe around the corner at Brown Sugar highly recommend.

Excellent park and walking riding scooting area with a sandy shallow beach (does get mushy further out) at high tide and an awesome low tide aquatic adventure. Great bbqs and family facilities 2 play grounds a half court for basketball and exercise equipment

Thompson's Beach is a great place to take kids. Go at full tide for swimming and low tide for walking and exploring the sand banks. There's 2 playgrounds, basketball hoop, exercise equipment and a few BBQs with shelters and seating and a toilet block. Cycle or walk the safe waterfront path. Or just find a shady spot on the beach and admire the beauty.

Great sand beaches ideal for kids and family. If you are adult and want to swim you have to walk a bit far too get enough depth especially when the tide is low
