Gunnedah Rural Museum

Great morning spent at the Gunnedah Rural Museum. So many great things to look at and see how this great country was shaped into what it is today. Make sure if you're visiting you give yourself plenty of time - there's so much to look at!

Picked a beautiful sunny autumn day to visit the Gunnedah Rural Museum. Have driven past it so many times and finally decided to stop in and have a nosey. It’s one of the best agricultural museums I’ve ever seen. So much to see - almost need a half day to take it all in. Lots of old school cars, trucks, farm equipment, steam engines and other memorabilia. Friendly, helpful staff too.

Wonderful place. Full of local and beyond history. You could spend many hours here.

Amazing collection of various historical items, particularly machinery and farming equipment. Also maintained by a welcoming and helpful cohort of gentlemen who were extremely polite and generous with their local knowledge. Definitely worth a visit!

Visited the Gunnedah Rural Museum the other day. A large collection of vintage / classic cars on display along with various other items. Very helpful staff / volunteers!

What a truly wonderful place to visit. I have not seen another rural museum quite like this. The place has a huge collection of rural memorabilia ranging from cooking utensils all the way up to large tractors and machinery. The friendly volunteers are welcoming and have a vast knowledge of the items on display and tell a story of their part in history. If you are travelling through Gunnedah it's a MUST SEE. You will not see another place like this anywhere in Australia. The displays are meticulously set up and many items are displayed in chronological order. Wonderful place to go visit. You will not be disappointed.

Great place worth a visit it won’t disappoint

Outstanding museum, loved the hours we spent there. The volunteers were very friendly and knowledgeable, went out of their way to make our visit enjoyable and enlightening.

This museum is an awesome place. There is a huge variety of historic things to see, from huge farm machines, cars, tractors and collections of just about anything you can think of and children's China tea sets, all beautifully presented.
Well worth spending time here. You are guaranteed to find something to interest you.

Fabulous place. Great staff. Jam packed full to the brim. Kids would love the model railway.

From a glance outside it doesn't look to interesting but once you step inside it's a whole different story.

Definitely worth a look whether you're a local or a visitor, a lot of effort has gone into collecting and displaying the wares of yesteryear and there's more to come.

Gunnedah Rural Museum is what is claimed to be Gunnedah's largest collection of agricultural and transport memorabilia. Apparently, they have around 18,000 exhibits, illustrating the rural history of Gunnedah and the surrounding areas. Exhibits include tractors, historic vehicles, horse-drawn carts, various engines, including steam engines, farm machinery, antique tools and household goods, plus a large historic gun collection. The exhibits are located in a number of sheds on the property and the museum is run by local volunteers.
