Lyra is absolutely stunning. We enjoy this place so much that we have returned several times over the past two years. This little country cottage is tucked away and gives our family a perfect chance to relax. Our teenage boys enjoy bush walking and wood fire pizzas, while my wife and I enjoy a nice wine overlooking the mountain range from the spa. Lyra is unique and something really special. Lyra has become a family tradition for us and calls us back every year.

Was amazing. Bespoke, hand built home in the middle of the forest with a beautiful view over the valley. Definitely made for outdoor entertaining, large opening doors to a fire pit, woodfire pizza oven and bbq area as well as a heated outdoor spa.

We saw a variety of birds and an echidna came to visit too. Beds were really nice and kitchen /pantry were amazingly stocked.

10 Mins from kangaroo valley town and 15 from Berry.

Splashed out on a special surprise getaway to Lyra for husband’s 40th with our baby and expected great things off the back of the marketing imagery and the cost.
Arrived on a wintery afternoon to all doors wide open with leaves and dirt blown through the house which alone marked us as an odd (chilly) welcome, particularly as we had explicitly been instructed to travel to the agency in town to collect keys before our arrival.

Inside, our first impressions on the property were notably underwhelming. It wasn’t what we expected at all. It’s quite a shabby, largely basic and kitschy country-style home. Aspects were definitely cool, mainly the outdoor entertainment space (firepit, pizza oven, hot tub), comfortable beds and the kitchen is big for cooking, however overall it wasn’t the wow/special feel I was eagerly anticipating at all.

It was surprising to lack a welcome note/welcome gesture such as fresh local produce or wine, as you would usually appreciate and expect finding at an expensive $1,100 weekend rental. There was a cupboard of used pantry items such sauces and spices (many of which were out of date!!!) but I would advice bringing everything yourself including the very basics like firelighters, tin foil, washing liquid, milk etc.

Our biggest issue however is that this is NOT a family friendly property on any level, which should be explicitly mentioned so we do not book it for a special, or any, trip!! Most horrifyingly, our 2 year old baby FELL INTO A CONCEALED POND while playing in the garden. This occurred within the first hour of arriving which incredibly traumatic for all. She cannot swim! We had not been made aware of what looked like a grass patch is actually a moss covered pond and did not appreciate this huge oversight. Extremely dangerous and irresponsible of the agents and owners to withhold this vital information knowing a small child would be present.

There is also a hazardous winding staircase in the centre of the house which leads to the 2 main bedrooms. No infant/child could safely walk this themselves. The jagged stair edges jutting out into the central part of the house also took the head off our toddler on numerous occasions. Also don’t expect to sleep past 5am here. The bedroom windows lack adequate curtains or blinds leading to very very very early starts. Not our cup of tea for a weekend away.

There were also a couple of damages & other overlooked aspects such as broken cupboard door, hole in bathroom wall, broken bifold doors, lack of extra towels which would naturally be needed for a hot tub, no gas in Soda stream, no pods for coffee machine. Overall, missing many obvious thoughtful touches that make a big difference to a comfortable, quality stay.

It was unfortunate the poor weather prevented us from using the best part of the house (outdoor area) but with the danger of the moss covered pond it was probably just as well to stay indoors. Consider if this is right for the type of getaway you want, it disappointingly missed the mark for my family. Unsuitable and not worth the money.
