Merthyr Medical Centre - Dr. Michael Horwood

Excellent attention from admin staff to medical staff. Always willing to accommodate an appointment. Have changed clinic because I moved to a different suburb but returned to this clinic.

This amazing professional medico was my GP from 2001 to 2017, until I retired and relocated.
Yep, I’m a huge fan of this man who was occasionally late, because he was doing morning rounds with his hospital patients, performing surgical procedures, that couldn’t be hurried, dealing with Brisbane’s morning traffic getting to work at Merthyr Medical Centre.
The rating applied to this doctor on this platform, is unfair, and denigrates his professional status and ethics. He works himself to the maximum,and, would never intentionally keep a patient waiting OR shortchange somebody on a consultation.
I don’t know if anybody will ever read this post BUT, If you want a friendly, committed medical professional in your corner, then make an appointment with Dr Michael Horwood at Merthyr Medical Centre.

THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! I have never had a doctor show such little care before. Called me for a phone consult, had no idea why he was actually calling me, first thing he asked was "why am I calling you" I had to tell him. Couldn't give me an exact answer on my results, just referred me straight onto someone else. Dismissed every concern I had, wouldn't even let me speak. I felt like he actually had no idea what he was talking about. Made jokes about people dying, laughed and then said "now give me your credit card details for payment". That's all he cared about, was getting paid. Literally 5 min call. I have never experienced something so unprofessional in my life. Will never be returning to this practice. I can see why there are so many awful reviews. I do not recommend.

Dr. Jomana Montes...not happy with how she didn't want to hear what I tried to tell her...I don't know if she's trustworthy...please stop preying on me and do not hold me back in life. Since what happened, other doctors have also done the wrong thing, and before it happened too (such as some incidents involving my mum in the past). I deserve to be able to live my life and haven't done anything wrong to warrant any bullying by anybody or any treatments for false situations...especially following what never should have happened in 2020...the medical community was beyond cruel and was wrong to follow the advice of my mum, who at the time more than likely suffered from some form of on and off again covert narcassistic personality disorder. I still remember going to the doctors somewhere else in the city and being told I needed to see some random specialist for some $400 blood test, only to be told after I was dumb for needing I needed the test. I was so annoyed, I told the doctor off for assuming I had asked for the test another doctor working at her practice insisted I needed, and I was already trying not to spend too much money at the time. I only found out after, when receiving the random phone call from somebody close, that my mum had advised them she knew about the test and he was asking if I was ok...which concerned me greatly, as I hadn't told my mum, or anybody else, asides from the medical doctors involved.

When visiting Dr. Jomana Montes, I did like how attentive she is compared to many other doctors, which might be mire concerned about keeping to the 10 minute minimum appointment time slot, then only be interested in printing some kind of sick leave slip. She might need to tone things down though, as some appointments I had...I didn't feel comfortable. For past appointments included her falsly making suggestions she thought were necessary...such as suggesting medical scans at non bulk billed womens' screening clinics to check for routine check up...I had to pay about $200.00 or so...and I had already mentioned to her I I was trying not to spend too much money at the time. The results showed nothing...I found she over scanned and tested too many times, and I don't understand why she insisted on some of them some of the time...

At the time, I didn't feel she was being honest with what was happening and with how I could avoid bad situations falsely made around my situation, mostly caused by those before her. I told them I knew they were wrong, and felt degraded by her as she went through the motions and asked her degrading questions, which made me feel as though I was somehow dumb and less than worth paying any attention to...it was very hurtful...especially as what she was saying and how she was treating me was full of lies.

Please don't hold me hostage...while falsly thinking you have the right to. Please don't over test and please actually hear me...please remember that I'm human. All your clients are human too. None of us are guinea pigs for any doctor to neglect.

If you have any decency in you, and truly uphold your doctor's oath, than I know you need to do what is right for me...what is morally good and just for me...to clear my name of any misunderstandings...and to ensure I'm no longer shown in the wrong light as having something I do not have and should not have to put up with any longer, ever again. My mum was wrong to abuse me and my situation. And it was especially wrong that when I explained how wrong my mum was for preying on me as she had at the time, it was more than wrong for them to ignore me when I told them my mum was wrong...they were more interested in ignoring my rights and explaining nothing, then falsly sending me places which made no sense for me, as I have always been, and still am, safe, healthy and sane. Mislabelling me and preying on me was, and is, never ok...especially as I'm one authentically autistic empath.

I'm tired of people lying to me, of treating me like there's something wrong with me when there clearly isn't, of making the situation appear as though I'm the problem.

Partner had appointment here, presented her symptoms, was told it could be from a number of things and if the symptoms persist come back. No diagnosis? Was charged 130! So if the symptoms persist (as they have) that will be 260 total when she has to go back! How is that a profession Dr said ‘since you’re not having pain now we can forget about it’. That’s a quote.

Gave me so little antibiotics for an infection on my arm I had to go back 2 times and got to pay for the pleasure each time, including one visit that was under 1 minute. This place is everything that is wrong with Australia’s medical system

Terrible, terrible experience. Doctor was 30 minutes late for a 9:10am appointment. He spent literally 6 minutes with me and charged me $75. Misdiagnosed my throat issue because he didn't want to spend time with someone who would call him out for being late and wouldn't even acknowledge it. Awful experience. Don't go to Merthyr Medical Center!

not bulk billed and more expensive than a normal non bulk bill doctor
cost more than $90 and they said ill get some back by the end of the day and never did now i have to go looking for it, with a proper bulk bill doctor you dont even need to bring a wallet in and out.

There is a reason why this doctor gets such bad reviews. Quadruple whammy of long wait time, poor advice, unfriendly, and ridiculously overpriced.

The doctor I saw had poor knowledge about medication, well below what I would expect from a practicing doctor. I am qualified to say this since I am a doctor myself. I will not be back.
