Iori seems to have been here forever, and has changed very little.
Although it has been an age since I had stepped inside, there was a frisson of familiarity and good memories of times past.
Despite our confirmed booking having been mislaid, the highly knowledgeable and helpful staff managed to fit us in with ease, although service did seem rather rushed.
We opted for a pescatarian degustation to reacquaint ourselves and some allergies were accounted for with aplomb. It was a great meal
Fabulous, friendly and attentive service, it would have been better with a greater delay between courses, however I hope that our lost booking was the cause.
The interior is somewhat and tired, and the lighting rather dark and makes it difficult to read the menu. Small things, which we didn't mind at all a few days before Christmas.
Great staff, great food.

A delicious surprise of miso crab dinner plate. This dinner was a surprise for me. Usually, I meticulously plan and scour the menu. This was a Fridate with my partner where he took care of all of all the seafood goodies I was craving and spoke to the restaurant who made it happen. They even took care of him really well! With his food allergies, they made a little chicken banquet for him.

Arigato Iori!

We have enjoyed our dinner here without exception. The food was exquisite, the service nice and courteous. The only little issue for me was the waitress being very softly spoken, so I had trouble hearing them.

Had the perfect birthday dinner here with friends and we really could not fault it. Vegan banquet was amazing and such great value for what we received. Table was full of dishes and they just kept coming! Birthday song and mochi ice cream balls were a nice surprise and all the staff were lovely. I would go back here in a heartbeat!

Definitely recommend to anyone in Canberra! The service was beyond amazing and the staff and chef are all super friendly and eager to serve! It was my sons birthday and he got a complimentary drink and was sung happy birthday with his desert which made his day! Hands down the best restaurant I've eaten at.
Thank you all so much for making my sons birthday so special ❤

Traditional Japanese restaurant with a lot of tasty food on the menu. For the undecided like me, simply choose one of their special menus, which have a bit of everything.
Not the cheapest, but the quality is really worth the price.
You might need to reserve a spot in advance for dinner.

This place is always excellent. We had the sushi platter for 4 and it was fresh and delicious. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and the chef came out to check on everything and even sent out complimentary extras. Will definitely be back!

The food just kept coming and all of it was beautifully presented and delicious. Wasn't sure what I wanted so the waiter and Chef offered to modify one of the banquet options

Very nice delicious food. The staff were very nice, friendly and attentive to customers. I’m not surprised why they are busy on Wednesday night. Excellent place for Japanese food.

Loved it here! Great quality food and service at a reasonable price. Relaxed dining experience, not over the top but with great selection of sake including coconut, matcha which was pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed. Had the pescetarian banquet ($47 each per 2 people) which filled us up and had great variation. Sushi, sashimi, tempura seafood and vegetables with 5 types of dipping salt. Nasu dengaku, seaweed salad, agadashi tofu, Miso soup and rice.

One of the nicest and most authentic experiences I had for Japanese dining. It is pricey - but worth it.

Iori's front is unassuming, so it is one of those hidden gems you'd walk past unless you searched for it or knew from experience. Otherwise, the place has a great reputation on Tripadvisor here are some reasons why.

The interior of the place is simple, but nice - it is wooden and has few decorations that are typical of a Japanese eatery back in the 1990s. The simple layout and ambient lighting makes it humble and relaxing, so you can really enjoy the food with less distractions.

Service was excellent. The waitress could see we were going to over order and instead suggested the degustation, which in the end cost less than what we planned to get and gave us a variety of things to try. We were full towards the end and enjoyed a nice chat with the lady serving us as well.

The food was fresh and everything was made with care and detail, from the delicate cuts of the sashimi to the fine touch of the shiso and maple leaves.

-Miso soup was right level of ume and generous with the garnish.

-Agedashi Dofu was lovely- the dashi sauce was not too sweet and the dish was fried where it is not too oily.

-Endamame was simple - as it would be.

-Sashimi (salmon, tuna, kingfish) was very fresh. The cuts were small but they were also precise. There was an assortment of sashimi so you got to try each one in a smaller size but the right thickness. The accompanying nigiri was good. The touch of the shiso and maple leaf added to the overall freshness of the sashimi.

- Sushi was well prepared and there was a lovely touch of saffron on top.

- Teriyaki salmon was tasty and not overpowered by sauce.

-Tempura was great as it was not too oily, not overcooked. The chefs also used a purple sweet potato variety which is or is closer to benzi azuma potato that is used in Japanese tempura. The vegetable tempura was cut in a way that was easy to eat, and the dipping spices just added to the flavour.

- The dengaku (eggplant) was cooked perfectly the sauce was just right - not overpowering like other places.

We were also pleasantly surprised to receive some complimentary dishes, we were given the additional salmon sushi and seared nirgiri, along with matcha ice cream as a welcome. It tasted like there was actual matcha.

There was a lot of care and attention to detail and service.
Highly recommend,

Authentic Japanese style dinner with privacy - Beautifully decorated with Japanese waitress and waiters. One of the best Japanese restaurant - Perfectly displayed food and savory sashimi, meat and vegetables - Authentic Japanese Rice and tea. Staffs are so friendly and realised it's our anniversary - who offered us a special delicacy. It was so delicious! Staff was very attentive and thoughtful. No complain at all! Definitely re-revisit in the future! Thanks very much Iori❤
