It's a must-visit place for first time tourists in Innsbruck. The castle is a bit secluded from the city, but it takes just 20 minutes from the city center via bus to reach here. The museum has amazing artifacts from its time, and even the outdoor area of the castle is quite scenic, with lovely views of the city, lush green lawns, and a small lake.

Great collection of armor and medieval weapons! The castle itself.. from the outside u can fully admire, on the inside u can only visit one hall.. a bit disappointing but still worth visiting!

The castle offers a truly unique collection of extraordinary objects. In my opinion, they are a 'must-see' on their own, but then you get perfectly preserved knight armors and a intriguing display of architecture on top. So yes, pay it a visit.

Worth to visit if you are interested in historical armors and some very uniqe medieval art pieces. During weekdays there are not too many visitors.

I strongly suggest you to go there on foot if you like hiking because you're going through such a nice natural environment as you can see from the pictures. However, don't forget to get something to drink before starting going there because your body will need to be kept hydrated since it's a bit steep and might be tiring for many. But still the view when you reach on the top is breathtaking! It's definitely worth seeing. You can also enjoy the garden area for free. Entrance fee is necessary only for the castle 🏰 So, you can consider going there for a nice weekend picnic.

The castle is beautiful and has a lot of historical artefacts including paintings. I would recommend the audio guide for families with small kids. The castle grounds are huge and provide beautiful views of the alps. The grounds are very nice for hiking. Walking down the mountain and across the bridge at the end of the garden is a small cave in the rock which is interesting for kids. There are peacocks in the gardens which were also a great attraction. We arrived at the castle at around 10.00am which was perfect, it was very busy after noon time.

Walking around the grounds and touring inside the Schloss itself is a great way to spend a leisurely afternoon or maybe even a little longer. If you have an interest in art and old weaponry, they have it. They also have a lovely little restaurant on site. The Weiner schnitzel and fries were great with a beer.

Don't miss this if you're visiting Innsbruck! We took the C bus from the old town, it didn't take long at all and was simple to find. Beautiful frozen grounds in winter, and breathtaking rooms inside. The exhibit of art and wonders had some of the most interesting treasures I'd ever seen, we really did not expect it. Worth the 12 Euros definitely.

Getting there is a little bit of a hike through the castle park but totally worth the effort. I wish there were more info about this place. It's not well marked and I had to come twice just because i didn't know my mom who's using a cane would not be able to get there. This place is not for people with walking disabilities, and I'm sure would help alot of people to know that ahead of time. I didn't know so i went there twice.

I wasn't expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised with what was exhibited here. My favorite part was the Chamber of Art and Wonders, so many interesting pieces! I wish I had planned more time here, if I come back to Innsbruck I will definitely visit again.

It's a family castle. Lots of history and exhibits. Knights' armour, portraits painted in the 14th century. Several beautiful halls. The audio guide is concise and to the point.

For whatever reason the museum does not seem to be very popular (or known) with tourists, so there are no huge crowds there.

Nice castle! Well preserved and wide range of exhibits!
Nice small nature park in the surroundings, you can enjoy a 30min walk there.

Overall you need 2-3 hours if you want to check quickly all the exhibits and take some photos!

Photos without flash are allowed.
Parking in front of the castle with some cost.

Touted as the world's FIRST museum. Get the Audio guide. Interesting to hear that even in the 16th century there was thought given to the lighting and painting effects to display the collection. The armor is perfectly preserved. The castle exterior is impressive.

It's the famous castle of Innsbruck. It is situated on the edge of the city. Bus number C connects this beautiful castle with rest of the city. With a 10 minute walk we can find a tram. The tram number 3 connects this castle with Markplatz. The castle roads are little steeper. It's very beautiful castle though which is worthy for the steep climb.

Wonderful experience. Would recommend to any traveling to Innsbruck. You can walk from old town (if ambitious), taxi or use public transportation. We spent approximately 3 hours touring the grounds. Lots of history explained. Small cafe in upper castle for drinks, coffee and snacks or meal if desired.

My son and I visited Ambras in February 2023 and although some parts of the castle were closed for winter, the large sections which remained open were extremely well presented and absolutely spectacular. Ambras was the best presented castle/palace we visited on our tour of Austria and London and this includes The Tower of London, The Belvedere and Schoenbrunn in Vienna. The other great thing was the complete lack of crowds in February. We felt like we had the castle to ourselves.
