One of the most visited museums in the country, the Archaeological Museum in the ancient coastal city of Durrës is a comprehensive introduction to Albania’s rich history throughout the millennia.

The largest museum in the country, the Durrës Archaeological Museum holds some of the most treasured prehistoric and ancient objects in the history of Albania. It is situated by the seaside promenade, the museum offers a journey through the rich history of this very important city by the sea as well as the entire country.

Currently is undergoing some renovation.

Good items at display, and I think nice description with every one, so you will like to see all. Nowadays only ground floor is open, they are working on firat floor.

Meticulously curated museum with a downloadable video and text guide in many languages. Many of the artifacts shown are intact - an indication of how careful the excavations were executed. Only the ground floor has so far been filled, so it is worthwhile coming back to when all three floors will be.

It's beautifully arranged and the entrance fee is only 300 Lek (around 3 euro), unfortunately at the time I have visited, the upper floors were closed for maintenance and new articles prepared for the next exposition.

Prime Minister himself visited this place when it finished the restauration.
This museum has inside alot of history pieces that date thousands of years ago.
Every new discovery that is made around the city diggings is stored here.
Visit it, totally worth it.

Great. There is only one floor (oct 2019) but soon it will be 4 floors with lot of greek and roman history.

The Durrës Archaeological Museum in Durrës, Albania, established in 1951, is the largest archaeological museum in the country. The museum is located near the beach and north of the museum are the 6th-century Byzantinewalls, constructed after the Visigoth invasion of 481. The 1997 rebellion in Albania saw the museum seriously damaged and looted.

The bulk of the museum consists of 3204 artifacts found in the nearby ancient site of Dyrrhachium and includes an extensive collection from the Ancient Greek, Hellenisticand Roman periods. Items of major note include Roman funeral steles and stone sarcophagi and a collection of miniature busts of Venus, testament to the time when Durrës was a centre of worship of the goddess.

Another must see in Durres. Great founds from ancient times. And a bonus - air conditioning!

You can find here a lot of old historical things. The biggest of them are located on the first floor.

Very Nice Setup. Still upgrading but whatever is there is worth seeing. Host was very polite, educated and welcoming ... He gave us time to tell about albanian history even though we went there near closing time ...

Small museum that had a great downloadable guide.

Nice experince. It was good to learn about Durres' and Albania's history a bit through archaeological findings. Unfortunately only the main floor was open, as the 1st floor was under renovation.

This was worth the 400LEK admission. Has an app to help you walk through and learn. One floor so plan for about an hour.

...a must see, to touch history

Nice place especially in hot weather as good air con often pop in for a cool down on way to the beach . If you pay into the ampitheatre you get a free ticket to the museum .
