Dragonfly Cruise

We booked 1-day Halong bay tour with Dragonfly Cruise. The guide came to pick us up at the hotel lobby. They were on schedule with just a couple of minutes off, but they answered my Whatsapp message instantly when I sent a message to double check.

Our guide Harry is fantastic, he seemed to enjoy what he does, made everyone laugh and provided good information and tips. I think he's the main reason the group was in a good mood the entire trip.

The bus journey sounds long but actually it was quite comfortable, a nap away and you are already there (I booked a normal A/C bus, not a limousine. If you want a bit more comfort, I recommend upgrading to a limousine for a wider seat.) Our driver was very steady and focused

Food was as listed in the description, a lot of variations of simple menus, they could have reduced numbers of dishes a bit, so not much of food goes to waste. You will be seated with others from the group (1 table, 1 set of food, shared with 6 people ), soft drinks, coconut juice are not included (40k for a can) which are acceptable.

Overall, it was a wonderful day. Beautiful scenery, amazing cave, great guide, smooth trip, fair pricing. Recommended.

The trip was enjoyable. The tour operator and our guide, Harry, did a great job organising and running the group tour.

After picking participants from various places, we set off towards the cruise harbour. Harry explained to us the itinerary for the day and what to expect.

Each participant received a bottle of water and filled up our particulars as requested by Harry.

For both bus journeys between the harbour and Hanoi, we stopped for a quick toilet break at a rest stop.

We waited for a short while at the harbour before boarding the cruise. Harry distributed the paper tickets and explained to us to keep them safe. We will need them throughout the tour.

Also, no single-used plastics were allowed at Ha Long Bay, which Harry pointed out to us.

We had lunch at the start of the ride. It was decent, mostly seafood, though the operator did cater to other participants with various dietary needs. Note that drinks are not included in the tour fee, and has to be purchased on board separately.

It was a great cruise ride, under great weather, thankfully. Some areas of interest were highlighted, like the Kissing/Fighting Chickens and the Ding Huong islet featured in the 200k dong note.

We got off at a place where we had the option of a Bamboo boat ride or the kayak for 45 mins.

If you're feeling adventurous, you can choose the kayak. But note that your things can get wet, or you may lose your items in the water. And that you might be tired after kayaking a while, especially under hot weather. So prepare in advance with change of clothes, sunblock, waterproof bags and something to secure your phones. Keep your paper ticket dry by putting in a ziplock or something.

For the bamboo boat ride, the ladies will row the boats. They provided umbrellas for you, and even took pictures for us with our own smartphones. But they can be very persistent with requesting tips from us, and might appear unhappy with low tips. Whatever your inclination towards tipping, bear it in mind when you take the bamboo boats.

Afterwards, we went to the Thien Cung cave. It was spectacular. Harry also shared interesting formations inside the cave.

We boarded the cruise and returned to the harbour for our ride back to Hanoi.

TL;DR great tour, no plastic bottles in the bay, drinks paid onboard, keep safe your paper tickets, bring change of clothes and waterproof bags if kayaking, note the tipping for boat ladies.

Did the one day ha long bay tour and lunch had so much food. Our tour guide was funny and friendly. It was a good tour.

Pensaba que me iba a saturar, ya que son 3h d viaje de ida y 3h d vuelta para estar unas horitas allí, pero me ha parecido bastante ameno el recorrido y para hacerte a la idea de lo que es la bahía de ha long está muy bien. Considero que pasas el tiempo suficiente en la bahia. La comida nos ha gustado y el guía ha sido amable y se interesaba por nuestras inquietudes

Hicimos una excursion de un dia a Halong bay con ellos y fue muy buen servicio. El guia fue amable y atento, la comida estaba buena. En la oficina tambien, gestionaron una reserva de bus para mi siguiente parada.

Went to HaLong Bay with this company a few days ago. The total trip price is what you get on average in Hanoi so no surprises there. Our guide, Uy, was polite and friendly and had sufficient information to offer about the various places we visited. The lunch served on the boat was delicious with a lot of options. Two things of note: 1. Other guides knew more modern details about HaLong bay than Uy, for example, where different popular movies were shot, etc. 2. The travel is 4 hours each way. There is an expressway that this company does not use alike many other tour companies in Hanoi, and the reason given to us was not convincing enough. They should really start to use the new highway that can cut the travel time short.

Die Auswahl unter den ganzen Anbietern war nicht einfach, daher hier ein ausführlicher Bericht (gerne als hilfreich markieren). Insgesamt sind die Programmabläufe der verschiedenen Anbieter sehr ähnlich. Wichtig waren für uns daher das Essen und der Zustand des Schiffs.

Wir haben die 2D1N Tour mit Dragonfly cruises (la Regina) im Premium Zimmer gebucht.

Von dem Zimmer waren wir wirklich überrascht. Es war eine große Suite mit Balkon und in einwandfreiem Zustand. Zusätzlich gab es ein Bad mit eigener Badewanne. Alles war sauber und gut ausgestattet. Lediglich eine Lichtleiste ging nicht. Wir können den kleinen Aufpreis von Kategorie 1 (1. Deck) zu Kategorie 2 (2. oder 3. Deck) sehr empfehlen.

Zum Essen: es wird vorab sehr genau auf die persönlichen Unverträglichkeiten eingegangen. Das Essen war insgesamt gut und reichlich, aber man sollte auch keine so hohen Erwartungen haben. Es ist kein typisches vietnamesisches Essen, sondern eher gutes Hotelessen. Der Brunch an Tag 2 war sehr gut, leider wurde kaum etwas nachgelegt, wenn einzelne Gerichte leer waren.
Die Cocktails am Abend davor bedürfen einer Verbesserung. Die Preise für Getränke sind an Bord natürlich um einiges höher als in Restaurants an Land. (Ca. 7€ für einen Standard-Cocktail)

Zum Schiff: mit einem kleinen Taxi-Boot fährt man eine halbe Stunde zum großen Schiff, welches direkt in der Bucht liegt. Auch die Ausflüge werden von dem kleinen Boot aus unternommen. Das große Schiff war in einem guten Zustand. Es gibt auf dem Schiff selbst u.a. auch ein Spa-Angebot. Der Jacuzzi ist z.B. gegen 1. Mio Dong/Stunde zu mieten. Die Crew ist sehr zuvorkommend und freundlich.

Zum Programm: es steht einem frei an den Programmpunkten teilzunehmen. Die Höhlenbesichtigung am ersten Tag lohnt sich nicht wirklich. Dort gibt es nichts spannendes zu sehen, man geht einmal durch die Höhlen und fährt dann wieder zurück. Stattdessen könnte man lieber das leerere Schiff genießen. Die Kajak/Bambusboottour an Tag 2 ist gut. Wer selber rudert, macht früh etwas Sport und wird nur wenig nass, auch wenn die Crew sagt, dass man auf jeden Fall nass wird. Wir hatten aufgrunddessen unser Handy leider nicht mitgenommen, es wäre aber kein Problem gewesen! Am zweiten Tag muss man bereits sehr früh aufstehen (ca. 6.00 Uhr) wenn man die Kajak/Bootstour mitmachen möchte. Der Vorteil war, dass unsere Gruppe die erste vor Ort war. So sind wir den danach startenden Menschenmassen entkommen.
Insgesamt sind die Ausflüge aber sehr gehetzt, da sie auf die Minute getaktet sind.

Fazit: Insgesamt waren wir mit dem Anbieter sehr zufrieden, abgesehen von den wenigen Kritikpunkten oben. Es ist eine sehr touristische Tour, mit straffem Zeitplan. Wer die Ha long Bay besichtigen möchte, ist bei diesem Anbieter sehr gut aufgehoben. Wir empfehlen auf jeden Fall mind. 1 Nacht zu bleiben. Bei 2 Nächten wäre das Ganze evtl. noch etwas entspannter.
