What’s in a name?
G: Bụp, do you have an Identity Card that we can reserve the room for our trip this weekend?
B: Sure, Na, here you are.
G: It says here that your name is Bùi Đức Triều, but I thought your last name is Bụp.
B: Bụp is my nickname, and Triều is my given name. It means “New Era” in Vietnamese. At the time I was born, things were chaotic and severe for my family in Nghệ An. My parents wanted a son who could lead and guide our family to the new brilliant beginning.

G: Actually, I was named after my father’s grandmother, Vân Nga.
