If you love children and science, you might want to be a pediatrician. Pediatricians are children's doctors. They take care of sick and injured children. Peds perform surgery and give medicine.
When an infant is sick, Peds examine it to find out why. They look for clues in the way an infant looks and acts. For example, if an infant is crawling around, they might have injured themselves. Peds need to observe infants carefully since infants cannot speak to tell anyone what is wrong.
Peds prevent health problems in children by giving vaccinations, and check-ups, and fixing teeth. They also teach parents how to feed and care for their children. Peds use special tools to perform surgery. They fix broken bones, take out abnormal objects, take X-rays, and treat wounds.
Most Peds treat infants. A few Peds focus on older children. They usually give children gifts and candies when the children don’t obey. Many Peds like their work because they can be with children every day, even though sick children can sometimes cry constantly!
