Côn Đảo Prison

This was a tastefully presented museum type experience. The horrors of war is never pretty and to come close to this is both haunting and humbling. The strength it took to survive these prisons is unfathomable.

Anyone goes to Côn Đảo island, if you miss to visit Côn Đảo prison, that will be your fail. Let you come here in order to see all felonies of colonialism. Who are they? You know clear: F and A.

A must do in con dao, but do the museum first, I went early in the morning 7.30 and no crowd's, very hard to understand why humans treat each other the way they do, I found it very interesting.

Recommend visiting the museum first to gain insight into the history of the prison camps before visiting. You also buy a ticket which gives you entry into 5 attractions including this camp, where the French tiger cages are.

Good for history buffs. I had to go out of respect for my heritage. Wish there was an English guide. I’d love to hear the stories.

It was such a wonderful experience to learn about the Vietnamese history. This place is considered as the hell for livings, where the colonists tortured, killed and imprisoned Vietnamese political prisoners. You can feel the pain, the terror in the atmosphere

Incredibly moving. The incongruity of the beauty of Con Dao with its colonial-era history of prison atrocities. Vietnam, in its museums, could teach being matter-of-fact, seeking healing & reconciliation, and moving forward with & from history.

Nice island near Ho Chi Minh city, a lot of beautiful beach and great seafoods when you stay in Vietnam and historical records

A must-see in Poulo Condo. You will be taken through a part of struggling history of Vietnam as it happens through French colonist period to the unification of the country in 1975

Dark pages of human history. Breathtaking experience to these tiger cages where people were tortured. Must see place while in Con Dao.

Very sad but important memorial. Opens after 2 to 5 pm. Need to buy ticket, and it is spread to various places.

Quite an extensive museum and old prison complex. The usual Vietnamese single sided portrayal of the past. But defo worth the visit.

This is the place where our heroes were living under torture everyday from French and American in the war. You should come here and see that. Historic place.

Peace and quiet, great historical stories.

It was a great experience and solid reminder of the painful past. However you must have a local guide's accompany to fully understand the historical setting and the suffering of the prisoners.

There are three locations of prison to visit, but ticket is sold in Phu Hai prison only. Price 40,000 vnd. They have staff come with presentation for every half hour, but it is limited in English

Brutal the displays are not for the faint of heart. But you need to go. Do you have to buy a ticket in town
