Back beach Reviews

Back Beach is the most popular beach on Vung Tau Island. During low tide, the beach front can be more than 100 metres wide. That tells you that the water is relatively shallow for quite a distance.
Some diehards surfers manage to catch the occasional surfable wave.
Back Beach is much longer than the tourist strip. It starts at The Point (near Old Woman Island) and continues all the way to the Co May River, which separates the island from the mainland. I have tried walking it a few times, but the tide has always beaten me. The end of the beach near the river is very remote. The few fishing families who live there are still living the ancient fishing family lifestyle.
Back Beach is a great place to fly your kite. In fact, the International Kite Festival has been held there many times.
Elite hotels have claimed segments of Back Beach and demand exorbitant prices to sit on a chair. That truly sucks!
At the moment (September, 2023) many of the beach front hotels and restaurants (those on the seaward side of the road) are closed (due to being sold to the Americans - according to the rumour mill), however, you still have access to the beach through the 'locked' gates.
I recommend an evening walk along the beachfront promenade. You will meet many locals 'winding down' for the day. It is a very friendly atmosphere.

This sea beach is the closest to Ho Chi Minh City. Clean water. The food stalls across the Main Street is something to explore for any tourist. There are some tourist traps and I would recommend to stay is more prominent hotels... and don't carry a lot of cash with you.

Vung tau Back beach is the largest among the several beaches of the city. It is as well the most visited, the main reason why tourist visit us.
The municipality does its job trying to keep the beach clean, evidently it could be done more but considering the economic limitations of a third world country, there's no much to complain about.
It is important also to keep in mind that the possible garbage, plastics, bottles, etc, you might find, comes with the high tide, not so much about the people that are enjoying the beach.
It is in Back beach where the watersports can be practiced. Some people in windless days opt for renting a paddle board or a surf board, while during the winter Monsoon season from Oct until April, it is windy time. The kite school, which it should be always contacted via e-mail, offer lessons and it is a good option if you are the sportive type
Other than that you can always sit on a chair or beach bed and enjoy the views. On the set of photos we are uploading, you will notice that there are some kiters and also you will notice that the beach it is not that dirty as some of the people which is posting here, complain about. Come to Vung Tau and enjoy Back beach with us!

Very nice beach! You can swim in the morning, relax under the trees in the afternoon, or stroll around in the evening. I loved my time here.

I walked along the beach wall from the ferry terminal and saw this fun park. Clean sidewalks and roads, not much traffic. The beach is wide with nice surf.

It’s a short and scenic drive of 2 hours from Ho Chi Minh city to Vung Tau beaches, one of the best Ho chi Minh city beaches. Previously known as Cap Saint-Jacques, this beach has a waterfront promenade which is dotted with cafes, shacks and shops for renting out loungers, beach umbrellas and kayaks. As this is the Ho chi Minh city closest beach, the place is flocked by tourists and locals, especially during weekends, for day trips and picnics.
Distance from Ho Chi Minh City: 96 kms
I'm missing someone.....

It's beautiful, warm and not too wavy. In the afternoon, the building will form a shadow cover on the beach. It's a good time for people who don't wanna get tanned.

Beautiful beach. Not very crowded. Always big waves there which is really fun but after some time it becomes quite boring because it's very hard to swim, you need to jump on the waves all time. Water is clear and beach is clean too. I can recommend to visit this beach.

Relaxing but when you walk in the ocean, be careful of sharp rocks in the ocean and holes on land

Great beach with a great view and a relatively clean. Many activities can be found around. Seafood and sidedishes are great. Some great places to visit like the God statue, the island, and the view from up high.
