Fort with cannon

Enter through Duong 444. You’re rewarded with a nice view on your way up. There’s a place to park your bike. No ticket required 🎟 but you can buy a drink from the couple watching the site.

Very interesting. Highly recommend the ride up to the fort. Not very crowded.

Not easy to find. Do not miss after a long ride following the coast of big Moutain to turn right at the street no 444. Then drive up until the top of the hill and you will find this impressive defense position built by the French between 1872 and 1875. Nice short trip to the military strategical defense of the Saigon River and the further entrance of Ho Chi Minh City during the early French colonial time. Some Japanese defense elements are also accessible nearby.

The large French Fortification was built on Big Mountain in about 1892 to protect the approaches to the Saigon River. It includes a battery of large 240 mm naval cannons. The drive or walk up also offers nice views.

This is just a small part of Cape St Jack coastal defence. Government should put more efforts to preserve and restore the whole fortification system on these two mountain.

Historic site when navy boats rule the waves and the French's then strategy in Indo Chine was to surround its coasts will cannons and pillbox defence against any aggressors
