Safeway

We stopped by here because we were in the area and I wanted to get some soda. We found parking easily on the street in front of the store because we came around 9pm. I think you can't take the cart outside because there are steps to exit the building. I found the soda easily and they had a special where if you buy 2, you get 1 free. We also got some chips as well along with some chocolate. I used the self checkout, but the scanner gun wasn't working so I had to manually scan each item. They also have security at the entrance for extra security.

Happy new Year to all of the incredible team of employees that bravely go into work at the boot camp of Safeways, I have gone to every Safeway in a fifty mile radius. From Milwaukee to Clackamas, Oregon city, Gresham, NW 12th love joy, 8 Safeways in Oregon and there is no Safeway like Safeway on 11th & Jefferson. It's not Safeway at all for the situation we have had
to deal with now an almost unstoppable wave of not even slow decline. 6 yrs ago we had homeless and drug use but right now in time we simply have an epidemic that everyone doesn't want to or just aren't educated about the reality of zylazene. A GENERAL ANETHSTESIA 100% BIO AND GENETICALLY MADE FOR STRICTLY THE BIGGEST ANIMALS FROM ELEPHANTS TO RHINOS, GIRAFFES etc. This means when you shoot an elephant flrom landcruiser in Africa or any wild lands for huge animals. It's a dart with zylazene and the elephant drops and they jump out and do open heart surgery on said elephant. That drug is pure poison to humans. It's destroying everyone who uses meth or phentinal in any way. Some very evil people have full knowledge of what's happening but I lived down here back and forth since the old Safeway got bulldozers over in 30 minutes. For 4rs it was pretty good up here. They got rid of all the negative business and it was good for many years . What the Safeway now you are working at the hardest store and retain there sanity. I would flip my top if some person barks at me to do this or that, they wouldg be unlucky. they have the patience of an actual Saint. Dave, who after many years of him willing to help me everytime with Care and compassion because I am mentally disabled from my ADHD with acute panic disorder and I do things a certain way so I dont have to ask for help at the massively outdated junk they use as self check out. When of waisted time I do I'm desperate at that point. I have to use every coupon I can. Dave is so kind to everyone and never looses his the ability of being a better person. People can be so absolutely cruel to someone they don't even know. So many people just lost the ability to be compassionate. Thank you for everything and everyone you guys help when someone needs it. There is one employee that somehow thinks that the customer is alwayswrong. This same "person also thinks going outside to smoke with the boys so this employee will turn around and actually physically assault verbally and hands on. I can also garuntee this "emplyee" has huge issues . This person knows exactly who I am otherwise I would completely drop there name but I love my Safeway and almost everyone is totally cool. What a joke to even spend the time reviewing this but it's become so ridiculous it's rather sad.

For convenience and location, this is a great store. The only downside is the constant fights between security and shop lifters... it can be somewhat concerning.

This place is THE best place to get your stuff. They are the only place I shop. They're staff is always friendly and so super helpful. It's why I only shop with them.

I love this Safeway. I've had very good experiences shopping here, and have enjoyed my interactions with everyone in the staff. I am grateful for the great prices and for the smiling faces every time I visit!

Convenient location with plenty of selections and well stocked shelves. Self checkout area wasn’t packed and got in and out quickly.

I love this store. It's conveniently located right on the NS line. The staff are super friendly and helpful and will go out of their way to help you get what you need. It's a small store but surprisingly carries almost all the main stock of the larger stores. The wifi consistently works well... And they have awesome coupons that help me significantly save on a weekly basis... For example, a gallon of milk can be had 90% of the time for $1.99. Use their app, take advantage of reward points, and get your groceries in under 30 minutes. Oh and their floral section always rocks.

It's okay. The store is okay to shop in even though their deli selection could be better and their seafood selection could be better, it's convenient to shop at.

Nice grocery store, best to buy sudden grocery requirements. Staff are friendly. Maintainence is good.

Very good shop near by place, with reasonable price get all the groceries and fresh vegetables and fruits.

I shop here regularly, the staff is always friendly and helpful. Went in for a few things at lunchtime and the store looked perfect, fully stocked and all product was faced. I know it’s a difficult location at times and I was impressed. Well done.

Honestly, for something that is never meant to compete with a generalized grocery store/ convenience store combination like Walmart, I have been pleased every time I walk into Safeway. Reasons include fair pricing while in addition to that, it's clean and the staff friendly. Fair pricing may seem odd to some people, but compared to what can be done, Safeway is not gouging even if they are not cut throat competitive. They are from my perspective, probably making a very fair profit with the constraints of what they can do. Does that mean they couldn't be fairer to the customer? I'm sure every store could. But looking at their prices I don't see anything that makes me think that's an odd price. It's within the average of the surrounding area. This is probably the most important metric because the friendliest face and the cleanest store won't lower prices even though those two things are just as critical. Overall they are much more pleasant than Walmart and I used to work there.

I must revise my prior review. Each employee I have asked has been polite and helpful. One young man showed me how to use the digital coupons on my phone. And I am developing a loyalty to the Signature Select brand. Each product I have tried is excellent.

I love this downtown Safeway! The employees are awesome and friendly. They are always busy which is understandable since they are working in DOWNTOWN PORTLAND!! I have not had a bad experience here and probably won't. Thank you employees for always be so nice and helpful!

I've been visiting this Safeway since I moved downtown, and in the past 2 months, I discovered a fav. HOT SALSA homemade in the kitchen of this store. For $4 I was amazed at the quality, the courage to be hot and the price. I've bought homemade salsa at twice the price that wasn't half as good. This was a real find -- check the produce section, where the sliced fruit is stored.

Powell's bookstore is the best book outlet I've ever been to.

I have to give this Safeway 5 stars because of the employees. Debi at the customer service desk has always been an immense help. I have a couple different neurological disorders that make verbal communication difficult for me and she's always kind and patient with me no matter how much I'm struggling to speak. Her kindness is a drastic contrast to treatment I've received at other stores and because of that, I'll often opt to shop here even though the prices are a little higher than other stores downtown. The employees who assist at self-checkout have also all been wonderful and quick to help when the machines are having problems. There's also an older gentleman who takes care of hosing down the sidewalk/maintaining the outside of the store who goes out of his way to greet people and wish them well when they're leaving the store; it's a small but genuine act that adds a bit of brightness in a world that's often dreary.

I also appreciate that this location is smaller because it's easier to form a routine if you're somebody who needs consistency in order to have a smooth shopping experience (i.e. if you have social anxiety, are on the autism spectrum, etc).

More of the employees have started wearing masks again and it's been a relief to see that especially with multiple respiratory viruses going around right now, so it feels like a much safer experience than it did a couple months ago.

Yes there are homeless people outside, but if you have an issue with that then you might consider asking the city government why they aren't working harder to house people in permanent supportive housing instead of blaming the Safeway employees.

Safeway was great. A lot of theft in this area. On my way out Police, fire and medical were bringing a fentynal overdose back to life. Lots of pan handlers but it's not Safeways fault. The current government in Portland let's the criminal element rule the streets

It's a downtown Safeway but the prices are still reasonable. The shelves are a little short of the less popular brands but that's probably because it's a smaller Safeway. Aside from that, the staff are polite and quick to do their job!

It's a large grocery store for a downtown location, so quite a variety of foods! I wish the bulk section had more selections. But everything I need is there and the staff is very friendly!
