I wanted to write a positive review for Canal Bait and Tackle. These guys probably hear “I'm from out of town” or “it’s my first time at the canal” a thousand times a day. Yet, when it was my turn they offered friendly advice and didn’t make me feel out of place. I purchased what they recommended and went out for three days eventually leading a decent sized Striper. If you are in the area and are looking to fish the canal, look no further.

I don't really come here for rods and reels, but they have everything else you need to fish the canal and beaches. The live and frozen bait is always solid too. Personally, I like the guys working in there. If you go to a good bait shop, do not expect it to be like a fine dining experience. The salty locals are a part of the experience. Embrace it.

This shop is awesome. They have what you need to fish the canal and the prices are quite good as well. I stop here quite a bit when I come down cape and I've never had a negative experience. The people who work here are friendly and will offer you advice if you ask. I've never heard a condescending remark from any of the employees which can be common at some shops, they treat new fishermen just the same as experienced ones, with respect. Great place, great people, highly recommend stopping here for bait and tackle while on the cape.

Tell you what I like the place. A lot of people have an issue with the Father and son combo being miserable at times . I would be miserable too you you got to deal with some real ignorant customers day in and day out from 5am til close. That being said they got what you need and if they like you they'll even give you some good Intel 🤪. 👍👍 For the Miller's

This place is amazing. Always open when you need it unlike every other bait shop within 20 miles. Absolutely stop here before you embark on your Cape Cod fishing adventure.

They have all types of bait in stock as well, fresh when available, but always frozen stock.

Locally run, with a great selection of tackle and gear.

As a sales person I would rate the shop lower than this if it was strictly based on how friendly the staff was, but this is a tackle shop so I rated it based on that fact. The guys there will give you information you need if you ask for it and the shop is well stocked and cared for. No one is rude but not everyone on the planet is an extrovert that aims to make everyone feel warm and fuzzy. If you want to find what you need to fish the canal and you would like some local tips... Go here and then go catch some stripers. Its a great little shop that has what you need.

Great shop. The best prices by the Canal with a very helpful and knowledgeable staff/owner. They know the canal scene and have great lures and Rods. It is now the only place I go for fishing gear.

I've been vacationing on the cape off and on my whole life. Fished a lot when I was younger and just recently picked it back up :) forgot what I was missing. Been to every bait and tackle shop mainland and cape side I think lol. Never wrote a review about any of them though, always kind of a place that you have to go to that smells bad lol. Went into the canal bait and tackle with my kids and was pleasantly surprised.... very clean! Jovial atmosphere, very friendly. The owner (I think it was the owner) even fed my dog and was playing with him. My kids were obnoxious as usual and they were answering all of their questions (and mine) with a smile on their faces. I am not the best fisherman and I really appreciated their advice, it was spot on. Good time, spent way to long in there talking (which is a good thing, wife doesn't agree :/) Is definitely my new place. 6 stars!

Let me start off by saying I don't fish, I don't know anything about fishing, or what lures to get, where to fish and what the heck to do when I catch said fish.

I moved to Buzzards Bay recently and constantly see swarms of people either fishing along the canal or over the bridge into Wareham. I have my dads old salt water fishing pole which isn't great tbh.

Anyways I pass Canal Bait and Tackle on my way to work so I stopped in one day and legit almost walked out the door when I saw all the stuff I could get. It was like going into Home Depot when you've never used a hammer.
A guy there who said he was the owner, Jeff... super nice guy without even thinking twice immediately sprang to action to answer all the stupid questions I had. He helped me out with a new reel, which was a SHIMANO 10000, and I bought some lures (which are easier to remember the name) Canal magic swimmers and stick shads. There were some other guys in there too who gave me tips on when the best time to go was and what parts are better than others.

I can't say I caught anything my first time out but my god I had fun. Just meeting new people along the canal who were just as passionate as Jeff was talking about fishing was amazing. If you're going to own a business, then you should probably love what you do. Jeff, you can tell, lives, breathes and sleeps all things fishing. I'm a repeat customer for sure. Hopefully someday when I go back I will actually be able to tell them what's worked for me. I have a long way to go but I'm excited for my new hobby.

Thanks Jeff

Guys here are very helpful most would assume a bait shop next to one of the best known fishing spots in the Northeast would be full of cocky personalities. Instead the gentleman here are beyond helpful and go the extra step in explaining why you should be choosing xyz tackle. Why the fish are hitting what they are hitting. Lastly I was a couple bucks short and one of the employees said no when I went to choose a lesser product based on price. He said the stripers are hitting these lures and you want to catch a fish. Disregarding the $1.30 price difference he rung me up for exactly the amount I had. And even better I caught a striper with 10 minutes of fishing. These guys know there stuff and want to see their clients succeed. Hats off to the staff @ Canal bait & tackle!

Love this place. However much you do or don't know that's going on with the fishing, these guys always take the time to talk you through what's going on and what to use.
