I’ve been a customer at Wagshal’s since my early days in DC, when Mr. and Mrs. Wagshal presided over the establishment. Wagshal’s is a beloved DC institution for good reason!

Wagshal’s stands out to me for its sandwiches, its holiday meal plates and its friendly, responsive service. Sandwiches are invariably well-made and delicious. We’ve also appreciated Wagshal’s holiday meal plates for 2-4 people. Deliveries are reliable.

I’m sad to say that, as of late 2023, Wagshal’s prices for many holiday meats, side dishes and baked goods have grown stratospheric. That is leading me to shop more establishments and purchase from Wagshal’s less frequently. It’s unfortunate if Wagshal’s pricing is discouraging purchases by the loyal customers who built its success over the years.

Found this place on Thrillist magazine's top sandwich places in DC...and it is National Sandwich Day! The employees were super friendly and accommodating as I bounced throughout the store. When I order a complicated sandwich, the young lady simply said..."no problem Sir." The bologna sandwich was awesome! There are daily specials, and today's was chilli...top notch! I am not sure where others are experiencing poor service...the folks I came in contact with were true professionals. I cannot wait to visit again.

Omg!! Being from NJ and used to Harold's famous sandwiches I was skeptical at first about getting a Rueben sandwich. This place was close to AU dorms and I was craving a Rueben so I figured why not see what DC Rueben is like. When I say this did not disappoint I mean it. The sandwich was thick like me. Wasn't overpowered in dressing. It was just right. It was too big for me to finish so I only ate half the sandwich and put in the fridge for later. While I was waiting I looked around the market area which was cute. I picked up a crossiant and a slice of cake as well. I definitely recommend and will be visiting again.

Yo Real Talk this place is legit! I’ve been coming here on and off for the past 4 or 5 years and this guys are always on point. Today in particular I ordered a Ruben Pizza and a gyro sandwich, there both amazing but the pizza is spectacular, the only change I did on the pizza is instead of sauerkraut I had it replaced with coleslaw and it was Amazing!

They make a tasty packed beef pie with a great crust.

One of the best fruit tarts I've had! With Berger cookies! The sandwiches looked amazing.

Mr.Markus is ALWAYS helpful when I come to grab lunch. His customer service is superb ,and he doesn’t mind going the extra mile for you. He can turn your bad day into a great one with his amazing charm. He’s AMAZING!

Best deli/restaurant in DC!! The food is out of this world. I had my birthday brunch here with a group of 16 friends and the service/food couldn't be better. The back room was set up perfectly and our drinks were always full. The Manager, Joseph and Server, Sophie were amazing to work with and so helpful. If you are ever thinking about hosting a group brunch definitely check this place out! You won't be disappointed.

I had not been in here for quite a few years. I was pleasantly surprised by the fair prices and excellent service.

They sell very delicious sandwiches here :) I tried their pulled pork sandwich (with pickles instead of coleslaw). The pork itself was a bit rough and chewy, but the tasty BBQ sauce made up for it. My mom is obsessed with this place which is why I offered to try the food from here, and honestly I’ll come back again! :D

I really like Wagshals. Two shops, the market and the deli. Their sandwiches on-site are awesome, full of flavor. The bread is well made without additives and a friend is who gluten-free says it's in the top 3 gluten-free breads they've ever had. The market section has high quality fish and meat, their fruit pies are so good you could eat far too many in one go. They have a wine and spirits selection to rival any alcohol-dedicated store.
But....all this gourmet excellence comes at a very high price. Expensive, expensive, expensive. So pick and choose. Unless money is no object for you, then a weekly shop here isn't for the financially faint-hearted. 😃

Today we ordered sandwiches for pickup. We are big fans of the sandwiches here and we’re very excited. Unfortunately, when we got home we were a sandwich short! I called the deli to complain and as soon as I explained my issue I was told said “I’m going to make this right”. They delivered us a replacement sandwich and an apple crumb pie!
To me this response is a sign of a quality establishment. The problem was acknowledged and fixed with no fuss. Highly recommend.

First rate in all regards. Amazing deli sandwiches. Great staff. More than a place to go for great deli sandwiches. Check out the wines and beers as well as the speciaty and imported foods. We were very pleased with the catering provided by Wagshal's for 2 family events at my daughter' home

I love coming into this location for basically everything they have to offer! I particularly LOVE their breakfast sandwiches and pizza. They also have a great wine selection, along with perfect ingredients, throughout the market, to make beautiful hors d'oeuvres. This is definitely an all around great spot!

I remember stumbling upon this place in 2012 while working door to door in the area, and I was impressed withe the sandwich I ordered. Came back in 2016 and man oh man, the uber smoked double literally blew me away! Such an awesome sandwich and to top it all off, IT WAS PACKED WITH MEAT! Usually I would find a $14 sandwich expensive, but the flavor and quality at this place makes it worth every nickel and dime. I HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone who loves great food and that "Mom & Pop Shop" environment.

This place is adorable. But beyond aesthetics, their food is delicious - and yes, I’m talking about the little hidden gem of a restaurant in the back by the deli. Not only is their breakfast good, but it’s beyond reasonably priced, especially compared to other places in DC - where somehow I’ve been disgusted by their eggs and they charge $10+ for breakfast food.

I also appreciate how quaint the location is. It’s never over crowded. And you can grab any groceries before or after you eat. The parking is free in the lot and the neighborhood street that runs parallel to the back entrance. Keep doing what you’re doing, Wagshals :)

I have been coming here for years, the food and service is unparalleled. Came in today and they didn’t have any lamb kebabs prepped so a Julia, a member of staff personally took the time to make one for me. Julia (and the other staff) are amazing, I can’t explain the impact they have on our shopping experience. Thank you to the team! Pro tip: their crabcakes are beyond reproach

A wonderful local deli that has been here over 20years! We had a Reuben sandwich toast and the pastrami was out of this world! Succulent, tender and complexly flavorful, one of the best Reuben I’ve ever tried! Will be back again, now I’m dreaming of dinner...!
