I had been using the Harris Teeter (HT) pharmacy in Hanbury Village in Chesapeake for many years. However, the Kroger Company ended supporting Tricare/Tricare For Life US military Rx drug plans on 01 JAN 2023. I switched to the Walgreen's Pharmacy in Hanbury (across the parking lot) for convenience. I introduced myself to the head pharmacist at Walgreen's and discussed my medications, two high-octane drugs (Controlled Class 2), and that my scripts would arrive monthly from my pain management lady. She said welcome and they'd do their best to take care of me.
The first two months went smoothly. As I did for HT, I always called 5 days ahead of the fill dates, as the Rx is written "do not fill before a specific date," to make sure they had my Rx on file.
In March, I checked in and they had the script. Then, I have to call in the morning of the fill day and request them to fill it (not automatic). That morning they said they were out-of-stock for my drug. What the . . .? Never in 7 years with HT did they not have my medication in stock, as in a 100% fill rate. I had to call 4 other pharmacies before I could find one that had my meds. Then I had to contact my pain lady to rewrite a new Rx since Class 2 (opioids) scripts are not transferable.
I adjusted my 5-day pre-check phone call to include, "do you have my medication in stock?" They usually said yes, and if not, they said they would order it. But, after my pre-check call, if they filled someone else's Rx for that drug, they wouldn't have enough to fill mine. Or the delivery of the re-stock would be past my fill date.
For the next 6 months I did the same drill, twice a month, and at least 50% of the time, I was either searching the local pharmacies to fill my script, or doing without. The excuse was, "well, we didn't have enough." Or "someone else was ahead of you. That's just the way it is." I tried using the other pharmacies as my primary, but it didn't make any difference. My pain lady said that happens a lot.
For September, I was 2-for-2 getting my Rx's filled at the Walgreen's (Hanbury). In October, when I did my 5-day pre-check call, I told the pharmacist that I appreciated having both Rx's filled in SEP. She said she'd make sure I'd get both scripts filled as written from now on. I found out that she was the new head pharmacist . . . Laureen was the new sheriff in town. Since then, I'm back to a 100% fill rate. Laureen has cured the pain in my neck (and I don't mean that high) from all the extra-curricular phone calls and scrambles of the previous 7 months.
I'm sure Walgreen's Pharmacy has hundreds (?) of customers. But their new head pharmacist makes me feel like I'm their only one. A very sincere thanx to her . . . .

I never had any problems. Keep in mind people that work in walgreens are humans like everyone in this world and in life we have to wait. We need to be patient.

I love this pharmacy & all the staff in it. They are always quick & polite answering all of my questions. Healthcare has definitely gotten a little crazier/busier over the last few years but the pharmacists & techs here truly have your best interest/health in mind.

I have personally witnessed patients yell & curse at these poor employees for things out of their control. Only for the employee to turn around and help the next patient (me) with a smile on their face. I’m convinced most of these people writing nasty things have 0 patience..Treat people how you want to be treated!!!

Just wanted to shout out the amazing, hardworking staff at this Walgreens. Love the pharmacy and the staff are friendly and patient. Got my covid booster today and the kind lady administering my vaccine was a genuine delight. Wanted to say I appreciate and admire all the hard workers who keep this store tidy, organized, and very much consumer/shopper friendly. You all are heroes!

The complaints on here are unreal. Stop complaining about the wait on the phone when your next complaint is about the number of people in the drive thru and people in line at the store. That's why you're on hold.

Stop blaming the pharmacy staff for shortages. They have zero control over it.

The best part of the complainers are they are the ones that don't check their insurance coverage, don't know how their deductible works, don't know what their copays are, haven't called their doctor's office and never use the online Walgreens system to check copays or order status before they go to the pharmacy - and because they think things work magically for just them, which they don't, they back everything up and then complain.

The lady Dylan that works in the pharmacy is awesome ! She was so helpful with my perscription, and brought my total from close to $80 to $30. She also helped me find my insurance information and fixed our rewards card that 4 other people at walgreens couldn't ever get right. Top notch customer service. We were very impressed.

Just left Walgreens after having a very good experience. Aletha was proactive and asked my teenage daughter if she needed help. She did so pleasantly with a smile and came off as someone with a sincere heart to be of service. That's a rare find in these days. She walked down two aisles with my daughter searching for a solution for her. Unfortunately, Walgreens doesn't carry what my daughter was looking for, but because of Aletha we'll be back for other items in the future. Thank you for being great, Aletha!

It's a nice location and the staff is well-mannered and kind. The main problem is their phone pickup service. I was on hold with them for at least a half hour and I never got an actual staff member to pick up. I eventually gave up. The store is usually fairly empty so I would expect staff members to answer the phone quicker or just to answer in general.

They should really change their schedule online it's very misleading on Saturdays they're open until six and the same on Sunday I raced here to be here at 9 o'clock but yet, they were closed. Other than that all is well.

I had to pick up pain medicine for my daughter who had just had her tonsils out and the pharmacy technician laughed as he told me it wasn’t ready. My daughter was sitting in the car crying as I’m in there getting laughed at. Not funny. The manager tried to make it right but the damage was done.
