Play Toys & Gifts

This review is too long over due. Play is one of my absolute favorite shops on Main Street Beacon. For every birthday and holiday it’s my go-to for gifts for everyone if my life from the kiddos to funny cards for my dad. It’s always really hard to not add fun treats for myself every trip. The offerings are always rotating so there is something fresh to check out every few weeks, and the staff is stellar and kind!

I would venture to bet, that if you were to walk into the store, just browsing and not looking for anything particular, you would walk out with at least one item. Walking by, I thought this was a toy store but it turned out to be so much more than that. You will find a lovely, eclectic and extensive selection of gifts and novelty items, everything from books to socks and lava lamps. And toys.

This was such a cute and whimsical shop. They have anything you could possibly need for parties, gifts, or just something fun for yourself. The associate was very friendly and down to earth. The only thing I’d have to note is that some items they sell at this store I’ve actually have purchased from other shops exactly the same as this one, but at a third of the cost. I’m not sure the reasons for the increase, but just worth pointing out. But all in all an amazing place.

Don't miss this treasure trove of classic hard to find gift items mixed with new contemporary gift items from blind boxes to crystal pendants.

I was blown away at all the rich variety of items and such cool selections that Play Toys & Gifts feels like equal parts Gift Store and Gift Museum.

Very friendly staff, never pushy but super informative.

In my opinion, this whimsical shop is worth the day trip to Beacon from NYC! I got the cutest lil kit cat clock (she has a pearl necklace and lashes???), mushroom blind box, gigantic googly eyes and more. I also appreciated the sustainable packaging that sought to encourage employment in the global south. Easily spent an hour here and I can’t wait to come back!

My one request is to please stock Sonny Angels :-)

Frankly, I had no idea what to expect here. My son & I walked in due to the cute name (and we happened to be in Beacon on errands from New Paltz). The shop has a bunch of eclectic toys and some throwbacks (Etch a Sketch, Hungry, Hungry Hippos, miscellaneous odds and ends).

Per Sam, the owner, the location is their 2nd, they're looking for a 3rd) I got a bit nostalgic seeing Hungry, Hungry Hippos, and HAD TO buy it for my son. The shop feels like a 1980s/1990s mom-and-pop style shop, which fits the motif of Beacon beautifully.

I've already encouraged them to explore New Paltz and add to the community. It'd only be logical given the whimsical & lighthearted nature of the space.

One of my favorite Shops on Main Street and always my go to for last minute gifts. From toys, to wallets, to novelty items and more their fun and quirky selection ensures you can find something for almost anyone. And last but not least every time I have gone in to shop the staff is always so friendly and nice.

Such an awesome store! Loved every second I was there. I had to stop myself cause I just wanted to buy everything! Hilarious gifts and so many things kids will love. Awesome, friendly staff and relaxing atmosphere. Will be going back and bringing everyone I know!!

I love this store, they have a lot of cute stuff and I wanted to buy everything. The owners were lovely and we had great conversation. Love from the Netherlands! I hope I can come back one day

I freaking adored this store! They have absolutely everything from retro, to Kawai, to goth, to playful! They have so many adorable and entertaining little nick nacks to play with but also lots of accessories like enamel pins, hair clips, sunglasses and so much more! Recommend if you want to buy something special from Beacon :)

Always very friendly and affordable . My step daughters love coming in to this store. And to be totally honest , I love it as well . A lot of items bring me back to my youth and that’s always a good feeling. I absolutely recommend stopping in and taking a look around . I’m sure you’ll see something you like !

Favorite store on Main St. Staff is so kind and welcoming. They have such a wide variety of trinkets- my favorite being the rings. Such a great store that has such a fun atmosphere. Love!!!! Linda Crystal is OUT 💁‍♀

My 4 year old’s favorite place to shop (and mine!) We’ve frequented so many times that the kind young lady up front recommends little toys she thinks he’ll like based on what he has picked. The little trinkets we pick up there end up being his most beloved; his bike bell, dinosaur puppets, and noisy pigs to name a few. We choose Play over big name corps. toy sections like target and I’m happy to report we’ve never not found what we wanted. Shop small and shop here!

What a quirky toy shop! Even if you’re an older kid you can find something nice here. I’ve bought plenty of tees/sunglasses/socks/and rings. I’ve always had a positive experience with the employees.

Such a cute shop! They have all kinds of knicks and knacks, novelty toys, and even “witchy” things (if you’re into that sort of stuff). The prices are reasonable, and I would much rather support local and stretch my dollar than purchase the same product, for cheaper, somewhere else

Best toy store ever! They have every single old toy from my childhood and it puts me in such a good mood when I’m there. It’s a great gift idea for anyone because they have so many funny, unique, nostalgic gift options and it makes it fun to shop there! It’s a definite stop on your shopping tour

i’m 13 and haven’t played with toys for a while but i walked in this store and it was the coolest store i’ve ever been to. there are so many options, adult party games, just toys to mess around with, stickers, damn. really really nice staff there and just, cool vibes overall.
