I've personally visited 30+ zero waste shops across the country, so naturally I was very excited to the visit The Unwaste Shop when I first moved to Chicago. The owners are some of the kindest people around and will happily strike up a genuine conversation that makes you feel welcome and valued. Their product selection is wonderful (I discovered a few new products I hadn't seen in other shops), and I love their extra recycling drop-off offerings. They've got a great rotation of events and are constantly innovating with their community involvement. Please support this shop and spread the word to your friends about how awesome zero waste shops like this one are!

Todd Barancik is the owner of this cute boutique style eco friendly shop. There are shampoo products, laundry detergents that won't harm the environment, beard oils, seasalt soaks, and cleaning supplies that promote "zero waste" meaning no plastics and reusable items to help eliminate toxic waste.

You can bring in your own glass jars to refill on certain products or they will provide you with a jar for purchase and you simply help yourself to whatever solution you want at a reasonable price.

This is a clever idea 💡 and great for the environment. I definitely enjoyed my shopping 🛍 excursion here in the West Loop. It's definitely worth exploring eco friendly options.

We love the Unwaste Shop! It is such a community asset and a one-of-a-kind store. We have transitioned to getting all our general home supplies here (detergent, cleaning vinegar, soaps and shampoos - you name it). The service is top-notch, the store is beautiful, and the products are excellent.

This place has the best products to refill and/or start your low waste journey. The people at the counter know their products and are very friendly!

Really good soaps for people with allergies to scents or chemical additives. Owner is so kind and helpful.

It's so well set up and I love the message behind it, to reduce single use plastics and make environmentally responsible purchasing decisions! I am generally critical products that seem to greenwash, but I still think it's worth putting money where there is effort to do better. I also prefer buying items in person to reduce transport emissions, so I'm super happy that this store exists!

Bought some sheet form laundry detergent that I had been looking for. Will be back to try more products.

I love this store. I've been trying to use a lot less plastic and this place is a great spot to start! I love the refill station and I've purchased serval reusable plastic replacement products here. Todd, the store owner, is also incredibly friendly and helpful. Keep it up!

Visited The Unwaste Shop for the first time this weekend. They have a great selection of items that are actually useful for the average person's day-to-day tasks/routine. It seemed literally everything in the store aligned with their intention for eco sustainability. Todd, the owner, and staff were very friendly and helpful. I left with their lint remover and seed card. I've already tried out the lint remover on everything and love it! I've already had several friends asking where I got it. I am very interested to wait will happen after my friend gets their card and plants it too. There is still so much more I can't wait to go back for. Nice to see Chicago moving in the right direction.

Really happy to have this store in our neighborhood! Quality products (I’m loving our new reusable sponges for dishes). Very helpful and friendly staff/owners. I just went back to load up on stocking stuffers- the mint mojito soap smells out of this world. Great for gift giving and everyday products.

A step in the right direction for Chicago! Staff was very polite and helpful. In addition to providing basic household and hygiene products, you can even bring in your own empty single-use containers for them to recycle. Very excited to see what more is to come for this shop!
