Hillyer's Tackle Shop

I'm not really into fishing but have younger kids that are getting into it. I take them here and we tell them where we're planning to go and ask what they recommend for bait and rigs and they've always been very helpful. Would recommend to other new or less knowledgeable fishermen.

I live 5 minutes away and consider myself extremely lucky to have such a great shop nearby. They are nice and I have gone there for 18 years now.

I drive approximately a half hour out of my way to buy my bait rods and reels there. The new owner Ed is a great guy and I will continue to support them. They are knowledgeable have top notch equipment and no it is not Walmart for pricing but you get service and knowledge that you don’t get at Walmart not to mention better products

There are a couple really good tackle shops in the Nantic area from what ive seen and this is definitely one of them. The stock selection of rods, reels, bate and lures, is great and the guys always give good advice based on their years of experience.

Good place to go for a fishing license. They have all kinds of bait for salt and freshwater fishing. Almost anything you need they have here and at very reasonable prices too. Definitely the best place in the area I've been to.

This has been the GREATEST go-to bait & tackle shop for many decades... I've been going there since I was 6 and I'm 64 now, and it's always been great. Great fishing advice, great merchandise: it's the real deal (maybe the 'reel deal' is better). All my reels I bought there, and rods, and they do great rehab work on rods and reels if you have some that need repairs.

It's a little out of the way, tucked down between the bridges at the entrance of the Niantic River, but that's the point: to catch fish you got to go where the fish are, and, you go to Hillyer's. I wish I was there right now.

Best tackle shop around. The guys are always willing to give honest advice and reports. Good prices and will go out of their way to make things right if something breaks. I pass by 2 other shops just go here. Highly recommend.

The guys down at Hillyer‘s tackle made a world of difference in my life today. My kids had broken the tip off of a brand new rod. I brought it down to them thinking I would have to buy a whole new rod. And the guys down there were welcoming and above and beyond with their service. If you need anything for fishing they have it. Bait, tackle, weights, and where to fish in the area. I think it's the best place in 50 mile radius. Plus you fish right on the other side of draw bridge. I stop there every time I bring the boat to ramp across the street. Fresh bait and ice too. But don't tell anyone!

Great staff, great products, great knowledge of the local fisheries. They are never too busy to help you with anything you need. Worth the drive.

I am a newbie to boats and fishing. I was inquiring about getting an repairable boat and where I could go for it. They were so helpful and understanding. They really pointed me in the right direction. These people are wonderful, and the shop was a wonderful experience.
