Gaulart & Maliclet Fast and French Inc.

This place saved me, the further down south you go in Charleston, the less places there are to eat and drink. It was a very sweltering day when we walked in here. I tried the croissant with apple butter which is worth getting. The croissant itself was very soft and fresh. The apple butter was very tasty with the bread. Service was good, they made sure my water was refilled. Prices are very fair for the quality of food.

I just arrived in Charleston last night from Thailand. I never order a Cafe Ole but just did. I am having a hand pressed cafe ole and it is perfect. So smoothe! I was welcomed by Chris. The atmosphere is loving and cozy.

Ooo la la! The food is magnificent! We were seated quickly as we were having a late lunch at 3pm. I had the Cocq’ Monsieur with turkey. My husband had a bowl of their potato soup. So creamy and seasoned just right. Our beautiful server gave us hugs when we were leaving. Go there. You won’t regret it!

We had an excellent lunch here, and would happily return if we lived in the area. Service was friendly, welcoming and professional throughout and we had a lovely table in the shade on the sidewalk outside.
The food was excellent and reasonably priced for the quality and quantity. We both ordered the lentil soup and loved it. It was made with fresh ingredients and was light and flavorful. I had the provencal open faced sandwich and loved the combination of flavors; I hope to recreate it at home! My husband had the smoked salmon open faced and he also very much enjoyed it. Both of our drinks were good as well; the house red was perfectly drinkable.
Overall, highly recommend for a light lunch!

Simple French food in a casual environment! Service was fast and friendly. I feel like it’s hard to find more casual / non fancy places in the city. Loved the vibes here. Also had a slice of the carrot cake it was great

Stopped for a quick bite to eat while I was touring around Downtown. It’s quite the chic place! My server, Chris, was very friendly towards me and every other patron that walked in.

I ordered the Enfant Terrible, which originally comes on sourdough, but they had ran out. Thankfully, choosing the croissant was a wise choice for a substitute! I’ll definitely check this place out again during future visits.

The food is AMAZING. Makes me feel like I’m in Europe with how beautiful the outside seating is and the delicious French cheeses they serve. The price is also super great compared to just about everywhere else in Charleston. Affordable and delicious! Thank you!

A reasonably priced French style restaurant. The wine list was good and VERY reasonably priced. You share tables with others, encouraging interaction with new people. Lovely service, will enjoy going back soon. Ask for extra garlic butter sauce with your vegetarian (mushroom) escargots, you never go wrong with more butter and garlic.

Fast and French is a great spot to take a lunch break! Delicious and fresh food served quickly with a casual European feel. I like the wine selection, coffee, soups and sandwiches. Convenient location for locals or tourists to enjoy. I have been coming here for years and will be back.

We are locals and have been costumers for years. Food and service are always very good. The o'salmon and o'rye are our favorite, but occasionally I get the daily specials. Soups are hearty and tasty.

Seating is sometimes shared with other patrons leading to some delightful conversations.

The bucheron salad is sneaky good!! Truly one of the best salads I've ever had in my life. I also got the daily special, which had a lovely variety for my taste. We didn't have a reservation but didn't have to wait too long, and would happily return to try more menu items!

We had a very nice meal at Gaulart & Maliclet. We happened upon the restaurant last night on our way back to our VRBO and stopped in for desserts. Had a lemon torte and cheesecake. Both were delicious and we liked the vibe, so we canceled our reservations at one of Charleston's "famous" restaurants and made one here for this evening. We were not disappointed! I had the Bouillabaisse and Debbie had Coq au Vin. The meals came with wine, a selection of really good breads, and choice of soup or salad. I had beef and rice soup, which was really good. We sat at a Communal table and met nice couples from Columbia SC, NC, and NY and had great conversations. We thought the prices were very reasonable. We will definitely return the next time we are in Charleston!

We loved this cute little restaurant. Staff was incredibly friendly. I had the bouillabaisse which was great. My husband got their chicken special. Wonderful atmosphere and great wine.

Good breakfast place serving typical French dishes. Coffee was good as well, could be sweeter for my taste. The MonteCristo sandwich for amazing, do definitely try that. Service was quirky but prompt. Prices are fair.

I stopped in to pick up a dessert for a dinner party. Little did I know what a pleasure that would turn into . The place was very crowded, and yet a server spotted me and directed me where I needed to go . They were very patient in taking care of me, no rushing. After we finished diner and the cheese cake and coffee came out, everyone wanted to know where I had gotten it. I told them, and we plan on having dinner there next time

We enjoyed a delicious late lunch at Fast and Fresh (which is what the staff call the restaurant). Our server Max was delightful. We enjoyed numerous versions of a croque monsieur. All were delicious. The portions were plenty and the price was low considering the quality and quantity of the meal. I would highly recommend a meal at Gaulart & Maliclet if you are in the area, we will definitely return when next in Charleston.

Fast, French and fantastic. This place has been a Charleston iconic French resturant for decades. It was great than and still is great now. The perfect place for a date night, or just to enjoy some really good French cuisine. Be sure and try the cheese plate if you are a fan of the fromage.

Stopped in for a late lunch and this place was perfect. Small, tight menu of French staples made with simple and good ingredients. Very nice wine options and a range of other smaller bites for an in between-meals bite.

What a hidden gem! This place is pretty small and didn't seem very busy at first, but later there was a lot of people and no wonder why! The menu is excellent with so many interesting and unique options. And everything we ordered was super delicious!
