Highland Acres Stables

I have been at Highland Acres for over ten years. In the beginning as a volunteer, then in the lesson program, and finally as a horse owner. The horses are well cared for and get tons of turn out. Merrily's knowledge of horse care never ceases to amaze me. When my horse was diagnosed with ring bone she walked me through treatment options as well as customize a dietary & exercise plan to meet her needs. She is a tough but fair trainer and has helped me get over some hurdles with my nerves. I especially like that she is constantly keeping my lessons interesting and challenging for my horse and I even though we don’t jump. The atmosphere at the barn is great; no drama and lots of adult riders who are horse crazy.

I started taking lessons with Merrily about 5 years ago, 20 years into my 25 years of riding. I'd broken my back riding at another stable and had a lot of nerves to overcome to get to where I wanted to be as a rider again. Merrily helped me achieve that some time ago and I've stuck with her because she's a great trainer. She's tough, but fair and she's laid back - not constantly pushing to show if you're not interested. The horses are happy and there's a great group of boarders and riders. Egos are kept to a minimum here. I highly recommend checking it out.

As a member of the Highland Acres “family” for almost 12 yrs now, I can confidently say that it is a great place to ride for both adults and kids. It has relaxed atmosphere, and everyone here is always quick to help each other out.

Merrily’s lessons are awesome. I love how she explains the “how” and the “why”, not just the “what”.

Fantastic place! Trainer is wonderful, and down to earth. No stuffy, snooty people here! Wonderful at her job, great person to know! And really loves and cares well for horses!
