When I couldn't remove my bottom bracket I found BikeMax. Max easily removed it and I was so impressed by the attention to detail at this shop that I let them upgrade my whole bicycle. Their recommendations and mechanical skills resulted in a build that far exceeded what I could have done myself!

Bike Max is a hidden gem! I’ve biked for many years and do most of the work on my bikes. After donating a bike in Rockville I went to Bike Max because I needed new tires and saw the glowing reviews. Although at first glance the store is small and under-whelming, the quality of service is absolutely top-notch. It has two employees who love bikes and are not out to push inventory or sell you stuff. They just want to make your bike work the best for you. Max (weekdays) is extremely approachable and has an encylopedic knowledge of new and vintage bikes and components. This is the only bike store where you can talk in-depth with an expert bike mechanic (just try that at REI, Griffin or Trek). Mio – who earned nothing by doing this -- spent time and effort connecting me with a phenomenal local frame painter. If you use a bike to get places (road, touring, gravel, touring, commuting, courier) and want to optimize or upgrade a component or buy a new bike, I’d highly recommend making an appointment. There is little inventory because they don’t want to push a specific product on you…they want to spend the time finding out about your bike, what you like and don’t like about it, and the type of riding you want to do-- and then find the components or bike that best suits your needs. This is absolutely the best bike store in the DC Metro area.

I've had a deep love of cycling since my childhood, affirmed by a cross-country ride in 2000, and now being rejuvenated & amplified by my own kids' interest. Did a fair amount of research, had a solid hunch of what I wanted, but still welcomed the consultation by BikeMax. I pinged via website form with a few initials questions which were promptly answered by email. In store on a scheduled visit, Mio wasn't the least bit intimidated by my full page of notes and questions. Great conversation and guidance. He thoughtfully answered my son's questions, too. Wound up on a superb Ti gravel bike, fluidly applied trade-in credit from an older bike, and saved oodles vs buying brand new. As an added bonus, I feel great about supporting a LBS with a healthy commitment to the cycling community. Hopefully my wife will want to join the fun and give us an excuse to become repeat customers. Thank you Mio, Evo, and BikeMax!

3-month update. Adding to my glowing review:
a) Best endorsement is word-of-mouth praise. Have told multiple friends about BikeMax, at least one has since bought a bike for his son there, and had an awesome experience, too.
b) Second best endorsement is repeat business. Have since bought a bike for my wife from BikeMax. Team of Mio, Vic, and Jamie worked together to help us select a great bike for her.
c) Recognition for standing by their product. After a normal bit of cable stretch with first 130 miles, and while within the 90-day guarantee window, I asked for a quick tweak to front derailleur and received exemplary service.

Long time bike rider here. I am very pleased with the All-City bike I recently purchased from BikeMax, as well as the excellent service service I received - fitting, assembly, etc. Thanks Max! The prices are reasonable too. I definitely recommend them.

Do you ever feel like things find you? I was looking for a classic road bike for years, something that was affordable, and then just as BikeMax was opening in the summer of 2021, it found me - a beautiful black and white Serotta with a Campy Record groupset. Wow! I’ve been a huge fan of Mio and his crew ever since. These guys are the best at finding just the right bike for you, whether it’s road, gravel, touring, or just a solid set of wheels to get you from point A to point B.

I found BikeMax on a spontaneous walk behind the strip mall under construction on Gude drive.
I was surprised to see what an eclectic and quality selection of used bikes they have. You don't often see a Ridley, Serrotta, or Moots bikes for sale in the same space. The pricing is very fair and the condition of all of the bikes was excellent or better. I was doubly surprised to see that they had my longtime dream bike, a Moots YBB in my size for sale. The owner was kind enough to let me take it for a test ride and then a second test ride on the trails the next day. I ended up purchasing the bike and couldn't be happier with my experience there. Pricing was fair on all of the bikes I saw there. They also do repairs and maintenance on site. This area needed a quality LBS and BikeMax definitely fits the bill.

Mike Max services all my bikes and I rely on them for accurate info and recommendations. Made several needed modifications to suite my changing needs. I highly recommend them and trust them whether purchases or serviceing!

Great bike shop! The team at Bikemax will make sure you have the best bike for you. The service is also top notch. And as much as it's a real deal bike shop, they are cool whether you define yourself as a rider, or if you just want to tool around for a little fun or even commuting. Don't think twice, go there!

BikeMax Shop is now my #1 "go to" bicycle repair shop. After many years of getting my bike poorly serviced at REI, I was lucky to find this shop from reviews from other satisfied customers. Ask for Max who performs all the servicing and repair work. He is knowledgeable, honest, patient and offers recommendations that benefit the customer.

Great listening and help from the BikeMax team to help me find the right fit for me, as well as updating my husband’s bike at a very reasonable rate! Highly recommend for new bikes, customized bikes, and overall maintenance. Honest straight shooters.

Had an excellent experience. Mio will take the time to find the bike that works best for you. In my case I purchased a used bike that was in excellent condition. They will work with you to make adjustments to ensure a proper fit. They will answer any question to ensure you ‘know’ your bike. Came highly recommended, and did not disappoint!

These guys built me a commuter bike for DC that I’ve used every day for a year now, and I haven’t changed a thing. They found the most reliable components for my budget, and got creative with the build. Everyone there is friendly and energized.

Overall, great buying experience with BikeMax. I was very happy to find a shop that sold used/refurbished bikes in the area. Mio was great to work with and helped me dial in the fit and change some components to get my new bike just the way I needed it to be. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this shop (and I already have) to anyone and would definitely buy from them again.

Friendly, knowledgeable, honest about I was buying. Made sure the purchase was a good fit for my son. They were a little out of my way (I was looking for a very specific bike they had in stock) otherwise I’d definitely stop at more often.

Great place to buy a used bike. You can make an appointment which allows you 1 on 1 time with sales/service team. The staff said they had built the bike I chose from the frame up - which is super cool, and requires a lot of time and care, and made me feel confident that the components were in good condition and working correctly.

They spent close to an hour checking and adjusting the bike I chose before I left, which was a great service too, and encouraged me to come back if I needed any other adjustments as I got used to riding the bike.

Its worth checking their website to see what bikes are available before you go, in terms of sizes and budget - I had the bike I wanted all picked out, and used my visit to confirm it was the right size, and the type of ride I was looking for.

Incredible customer service, good selection, couldn’t recommend more. I bought a bike from Mio last year as I started training for my first triathlon. It fits perfectly and I absolutely love it. I had visited over 10 bike shops locally but only Mio had the patience and diligently found “my bike”.

Always ready to help even last minute thing, they're very flexible with their schedule and also have few payment options for you. Mio is an awesome guy, very smooth and easy to deal with

Had my bike shipped here from LA via bikeflights. BikeMax was excellent about reassembling it and giving it a tuneup, but what I really appreciated was their professionalism and prompt communication. With all the stress that comes with moving across the country, having BikeMax take care of one of my husband's most prized possessions was a huge relief during this process. Would definitely go back to them for all of my bike needs.
