Nikanos Mediterranean Bar & Grille

This was our first time eating here. We called the restaurant for reservations and they were very friendly. Our server was excellent and was very communicative regarding the specials. All in all our meals were excellent. We would highly recommend this restaurant to all that are traveling through this area. A+++

We had great experience at Nikanos. Located at the entrance to downtown Ogunquit. This Sunday was the start of their weekly Pasta Night. $17.99 gave you a selection of 1 of 10 pasta dishes. All looked really good. These came with a salad and dessert (donuts). We added on Pita with Tzatziki dip. Very fresh and appetizing. They also serve 2 kinds of bread, all baked there and tasty. We maybe had too much bread. Drinks were perfectly mixed and the entrees were incredible. I had chicken piccata. If I had 1 issue was that it was dense and roasted, not breaded and sautéed. Not a big deal. Chef did a great job marrying the sauce & pasta. Many other local places who serve pasta have trouble intertwining the sauce and flavors. My wife had chicken and eggplant parm. Spot on, very good. Overall this place has a warm vibe and it’s evident locals love this environment. That staff worked well to hit all points of service even though it filled up all at once between 4:00 and 4:30. We got there early because we had a feeling this would be the Sunday night spot to be.

What a fantastic place! This place excelled on all fronts. The atmosphere was very pleasant with the music playing. The staff was very friendly and outgoing. The food was very delicious. We had the Greek salad, the hummus and pita for a starter. We shared the Traditional Souvlaki steak skewers with tzatziki and a lemon sauce on a rice pilaf and some grilled veggies. The dessert we chose was called “not on a sundae” that featured pistachio ice cream, fudge sauce and baklava crumbles throughout. My husband tried the ouzo for an after dinner drink. It was quite a meal! If you love Mediterranean food, you won’t be disappointed!

Fantastic experience, seated very promptly without a reservation. Our server R. Uros was amazing, explaining things on the menu, very friendly and personable.

Souvlaki out of this world came with rice grilled vegetables..
With Humus and Tzatziki sauces..

Lovely environment and the Greek salad was great. Flatbread disappointed, overpowering cheese, overwhelmed the rest of the pie. The music, a jazz quartet was great. Nice wait staff. Spanokopita was very good. Parking limited, we paid $10, be prepared!

Went for lunch...reservation not required but usually busy. Have outdoor patio seating. Live music. Food is excellent.

Amazing Greek food. I got the village salad and the lamb shank and it was amazing. Our waiter was so nice and gave us great service. Definitely recommend!

The place to dine in Ogunquit, Maine.
We visited Nikanos for the first time after reading favorable reviews. For starters I ordered the mussels which were the best I've ever had. What flavor and the sauce was made with a delicate ouzo recipe. My companion had the grilled octopus over a mixture of beans, tomatoes and potatoes which were simply delicious. For entrees I ordered the braised lamb shank and the better half ordered the fish of the day which was branzino. Again both were wonderful and bursting with flavor. The service was great...our waiter Christian was doing double duty as a bartender but was up for the task. Our host, Mark and Jennifer, who are also the owners, were very present and friendly and checked in on us often even though it was a very busy night. We were not disappointed in Nikanos and will definitely return. We were very happy to see how bustling it was dispite Covid-19. We wish them continued success. Stop by and see for yourselves. You will be back as we will also. As of today the 22nd of August I have been back three times. Each time better than the last. Mark and Jennifer show there pride in a very vibrant and upcoming establishment. I commend them and the entire staff for dedication to a successful business.
On July 30th, 2021 I had the pleasure to return to this very successful establishment. it was nice to be greeted by Jennifer and then Mark owners of the Fine Dining restaurant. The service staff and most importantly the executive chef continued with there expertise of taking care of the customer.
The meals were superb and most satisfying. No matter what you decide to order you will happy with your selections. The mussels, lamb shank, chicken dish are to die for. Not to mention desserts.
Come and be satisfied in service, food, and a place you can back to. Over and over again. They also have nightly entertainment.
P.S. If Ali or Christian are tending bar. You are in fabulous hands.

As most of the restaurants in the area are already closed for the season, my wife and I came across this place. What a nice surprise!

Every dish was very tasty and flavorful.
We shared the "yesterday soup", mezze of hummus, tzatziki and bean paste, and the stuffed grape leaves.
For the main dish we had the Mediterranean salad and the spiced lamb flatbread.

This place never disappoints! We got the calamari, mussels and meatballs for appetizers & I got Valerie’s Shrimp dinner. All taste amazing with so much flavor and cooked to perfection. They are playing live music tonight and the service is incredible. Definitely worth a visit!

My girlfriend and I were in Portsmouth, New Hampshire for the day just walking around the cute little town when I decided that we should take a drive up to Maine since we both have never been that far north before! It was around 5:30pm when we reached York, ME and I was starting to get hungry! She was as well! I pulled over and decided to look up places in the area and stumbled upon Nikano’s a town over! When we got there, we were greeted with a smile and the atmosphere of the establishment blew me away. It’s an outside seating restaurant with a small bar and an amazing menu full of great food. The bartender was beyond friendly and every single person there, staff and guests, were so so so nice to my girlfriend and I. We didn’t have a reservation for a table so we sat at the bar! It was a welcoming experience. She ordered the tomato flatbread and I ordered the lobster flatbread! Wow. Who knew a flatbread and a beer could taste that delicious. We haven’t felt secure about a place to eat in a long time. And it was our first time in the state of Maine! What a flawless experience. Thank you to Nikanos and to that sweet couple next to us that made us feel like we were at home. When I find myself up that way again, I know exactly where I am stopping to eat. 11/10.

My youngest son and his wife were in town. They took me to this place. I would not to come here. I usually go to eat seafood by the water..I went along for the ride...
I would not think to eat on Rt one during g the day also...the place was charming, I liked the layout and that it was set back from the street.
The food was good,the ouzo was just how I liked it!! There was a guitar player and he sang also and...he was good!!
I would go back there again!

This is a 10 on 10 ! What a wonderful evening we've had. We were a group of 9 which is always more work and we were treated like royalty by Michelle, the delightful lady who's entertained us all evening.

She had wonderful suggestions. She understood our vibe right away.

The meal was incredible. We shared the dip trio, the calamari and the spanakopita. They were all delicious but the spanakopita was exceptional. The best we've ever had.

For the mains, everyone was so so happy with their choice. Moussakas, veal chops, half chickens, souvlakis, muscles, squids, were ordered and the plates went around the table. We wish we could have gone back the next day !!

The ambiance is absolutely charming. The decor is gorgeous. The musician was talented and offered a wide variety of music that was perfect for the moment.

We look forward to going back !

Great spot for a unique twist on Greek favorites. Service was friendly and professional. The vibe is chic yet unpretentious. We enjoyed spanikopata, Greek farmer salad, tenderloin skewers, squash bisque,and baklava. Everything was delicious and served exactly as ordered. Our first time here,we'll be back

Had the grape leaves, the Caesar salad with shrimp, and the galaktoboureko dessert. Everything was delicious. Yhe menu doesn't tell you, but the romaine lettuce in the Caesar salad is grilled hearts of romaine. The dressing is yummy, and the chickpea croutons are a nice complement to the dish.

Our server was friendly but seemed confused. She was apparently called in earlier than expected for her shift, and took a while to get herself up to speed.

The best lamb gyro I've ever eaten and the hummus and homemade pita was delicious. Along with a big bottle of Pellegrino, we had a wonderful meal that was also reasonably priced. Service and atmosphere were outstanding, especially getting to sit outside .

Awesome food. Great service, excellent drinks and outdoor seating. Limited but great, high quality vegetarian food options.

Beautiful space, with outdoor heaters on a hot day with a chilly night! Lovely daily special with haddock prepared in a Greek style. Best calamari appetizer I’ve ever had in my life! Wonderful cocktails and superb A+++ service!
