Spent this week looking at Alton in PBG and was very impressed with the professionalism of Kolter Homes. Not sure if I am buying there yet, but I thought they deserved a thumbs up for how they treat their prospective clients.

When my parents finally decided to relocate to Southwest Florida from Orange County California I was tasked by my siblings in helping them find a community. I know. I drew the short straw. They weren’t looking for a “retirement community” per se, but they were still looking for all of the amenities of one. Verandah has golf, tennis, swimming pool, and tons of other outdoorsy stuff. And lastly but most important we wanted an HOA that’s reasonable but one that takes care of everything. I’m not looking for a long distance headache from a HOA. Verandah’s HOA and its staff in general are a delight to deal with. Susan, you’re the best! It’s been eight months and the parents couldn’t be happier… which means myself and my siblings couldn’t be happier either. I don’t normally write reviews about companies, but this transition has been so smooth that I felt like it was definitely “review worthy”...

Working with Kolter Homes over the last several years on the Panhandle. Very proficient company that cares for their customers well after the closing date.

Unfortunately they cut too many corners! Customer service is a voicemail. I would not buy from Kolter again.

Roof damage from rain after 13 years.

Sliding door frame not rectangular doesn't shut properly.

Bathroom tub put in place without sealing around it.

Kolter Homes sales people are wonderful. They will tell you anything you need to hear. Of course, a year later you may find out they've been selling unicorns, but as the old saying goes, "buyer beware." There warranty repair team hear in Summerville, SC is the can only be described as a circus of chaos as their leader, Gene Burns never seems to receive emails or "forgets" things. The customer rep is straight out of the waterboarding era when at a recent meeting, when several people questioned quality issues, he said "We can take it outside" (direct quote). That's exactly the type of customer service we expect when paying between a third and a half million dollars for our home (sarcasm in case you missed it). Kolter has taken a page straight out of organized crimes page for a business model; they control all of the entities involved in a community such as the HOA. At a meeting the evening of the previously mentioned meeting with Mike Mclannon who told people with quality issues to "we can take it outside" the HOA president, Steve Grimes when pressed on similar issues practically stomped his foot, folded up his little easel and said he would not conduct a meeting like this - the equivalent of a 4 year old crying "I'm taking my ball and going home." His answer to most questions were "I don't know" or "I can't answer that". Someone in back brought up a salient point, "then why are you here". Between Mr. Burns, Mr. Mclannan (sp?) and Mr. Grimes, Kolter is represented by a twisted and hostile version of the Three Stooges. Like someone who has eaten at a restaurant and gotten food poisoning, I ate the food and paid my bill, even left a tip but I warn anyone and everyone who is considering buying a Kolter home to look anywhere else. You would get more integritiy and better service from a slum lord.
