Mathews Food and Drink

This is one of the best brunch spots in Jersey City. Make sure you get a reservation!! The drinks are fantastic, and they know how to make a perfect mimosa (just a waft of OJ!) The food is anyways amazing. I highly recommend the chicken and waffles as well as the scramble. The service is always very friendly, but often slow. Not sure if maybe they could use an extra server or two during their peak hours.

My husband and I had date night here and we loved everything! The food and service were excellent and the vibes were cozy and romantic. I highly recommend the shrimp corn fritters, they were our favorite!

Everything was delicious and came very quickly! We got the White Bean Puree - which was hands down the best thing we ordered - and I got the Jerk Mahi Mahi and my fiancé got the Matthew’s Burger which he loved. We also got the “The One That Got Sorbet” drink and an Amaretto Sour. The Amaretto Sour was one of the best we’ve ever had. We had a nice time!

I went on a solo date and had a great time! Crab cakes were the best, chicken sandwich was also very good! I liked my experience

Visited on Labor Day weekend and to my surprise it wasn’t so busy. When I walked in I was immediately seated and greeted by our waitress who kindly offered suggestions for both drinks and food. I had the burger and my husband went with a grilled chicken sandwich. Both were delicious. I had to ask for the 80s glam cocktail and not only was it extremely cute with the glitter but tasted delicious.

Vibes were fantastic overall and would definitely come back when we return to Jersey City.

Very nice place. I had the black bean burger with fries on the side and it was delicious. Interesting cocktail menu and I tried a smoked gin based cocktail which was very good. Great service! Would totally come back 🙌🏼

Helped my friend move into the area and I needed a place to show him how good the brunch/lunch spots in Jersey City are. I chose right. He and our other friend got the chicken and waffles, not pictured, which they LOVED. I elected to get the chicken in sandwich form. With slaw, tomato, and hot honey, this sandwich was insanely good. The chicken was juicy too, which just added to the quality. We all had some Bloody Mary’s too for good measure. This place is also has this classic American vibe going on that was super cool. The area is great to enjoy food, keep drinking, and eat again down the street if that’s your plan. Definitely check this place out for brunch!

I was a little worried about eating here as I have celiacs, and their menu didn't list GF items. However our waiter, Brain, was really helpful and answered all my questions and even checked with the kitchen to verify what I could have off their menu.

I ended up having the jerk mahi mahi, which was better than I expected. It wasn't too fishy, and mixed with mango, rice and chickpeas was the perfect blend. It did have some spice but it wasn't so much that you couldn't taste the food.

The atmosphere was nice, and the service for me was amazing. I would recommend this to anyone. I would eat here again.

Walked in on a Monday evening and sat at the bar. Mary immediately came over to greet me and take my drink order. She was so attentive, kind and helpful. I loved that she was communicative when I ordered the chicken and let me know that it would take 15-20 min. Additionally, she recommended the toffee cake for dessert which was…flipping amazing. Thank you Mary for your amazing service. Would definitely come back if I’m ever in Jersey City again.

Lovely dinner! We were seated in a small nook towards the back, that felt very private which was an added bonus for our group. Delicious and inventive cocktails. I ordered the steak and it was perfection. A menu that definitely has something for everyone in your group. Staff was very friendly. Would love to come back.

They really blew it out of the park. We came in for a birthday dinner, everything from the reservation setup to the logistics of bringing a cake in (that was a surprise) and then having it presented at the table was great. Service was fast and food was great. Awesome drinks. But the staff and service I would award 6 stars if possible—they are all so kind and accommodating. The atmosphere inside is also very nice, as always.

Mathews is a short walk away from the Grove Street PATH station and has a unique ambiance that makes it a perfect spot for date nights and instagram-worthy pictures.

The food is great and offers excellent comfort food, even though the menu is a bit limited - the menu only has a bunch of starters, salads, and sandwiches/burgers. Nonetheless, we ordered the Southern Fried Shrimp, Devilled Eggs, and the Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich and greatly enjoyed all 3.

Based on our experience, the only area of improvement would be the mocktails. The Spirit Spritz and Mango & Dreams were both not to our liking (the flavor of orange bitters in the Spirit Spritz was too overpowering, and Mango & Dreams was too sweet and a tad bitter too). The cocktails here look great, and I wish the mocktails also do justice to Mathews reputation.

All in all, it was an enjoyable experience and I'd highly recommend it.

Service, food and location! Perfect rating. Great for have a lunch with the girls or business. Just in time for the summer

Had a great time here at brunch and will be back to try their dinner menu! Highly recommend the lemon ricotta pancakes - the pancakes were fluffy and warm and I couldn’t get enough of the pecan honey butter. The sweet potato hash was good too

Mathew’s Food and Drink is located in Jersey City and is a nice mix of easy vibes and classic American food. There is a wide range of American dishes from deviled eggs to hot honey crispy chicken sandwiches. Everything was delicious. The hot honey crispy chicken sandwich had a good combination of heat and crispiness.

Cocktails is why you come to Mathew’s. From craft cocktails to a diverse selection of beer. Everything was top notch. Overall really enjoyable experience at Mathew’s. If you are in area and are craving a burger with drinks check this place out.

Liked coming here for lunch. It was bright, modern, yet relaxing. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

We had tried their BLT, cheeseburger and honey crispy chicken sandwich. They also let my sub the crispy chicken with grilled chicken. All very tasty.

I wish they changed their menu seasonally. So we could try new dishes.

Awesome awesome brunch/lunch/dinner. Very clean eating (aka fresh ingredients!). Great location & great outdoor seating in the spring / summer (clutch for covid times). Recommend making a reservation to guarantee seating.

The honey chicken sandwich was fantastic! First bite was crispy then slaw and honey kicked in, refreshing, a very good combo!

The waffle fries was crispy! Yep, crispy is all I ask about for fries. They did it!

With that, I gave it five stars! They deserve it! HIGHLY recommend if you are a big fan of fried chicken burger!

Went for dinner and had a great time. Ordered a cocktail that was similar to a Moscow Mule which was nice and refreshing. We had the Deviled Eggs and Sticky wings which were both delicious. For our main, the Pasta Ragu, Broccolini and Truffle Waffle fries - all delicious. The servers seemed a bit too busy and we had to look for them a few times but I'd definitely recommend it for a nice casual dinner.
