I’ve come in multiple times now and I absolutely adore it. The baristas are so sweet and knowledgeable, the menu is creative and has a wide range of options- not to mention delicious! I feel so cozy every time I come in. The owner is very sweet and it was endearing to hear her conversations with the employees. Sadly, I’m moving out of town but I’ll be back whenever I visit!

Such a cool place bringing together two things that I absolutely love: warm cup of coffee and books! The ambience is great, good coffee and good selection of pastries too.

What a great find. I enjoyed a small chai tea latte hot, chocolate chip cookie and blueberry muffin. As a local other it was nice to see that this location supports local authors with book signings as well as a different place to purchase great books.

The Coffee Shelf always makes me happy! I always leave feeling better than when I entered…from the friendly staff to the delicious house coffee to the fancy drinks. I love how they accommodate me even when I’m going “sugar free/no fat”. Absolutely favorite place in Chapin! Great place to hang out with friends!

This cute little shop is exactly the place I’d frequent if I lived close, and even in bigger cities I’ve never seen one quite like it! Their drink options are AMAZING: aptly named after well-known book characters, with flavor concoctions to match the vibe!
You can escape between tall bookshelves hosting a neighborhood of well-loved tomes for a few minutes while you wait for your drink, and relax into the big couch by the window to soak in your coffee and the first few chapters of whatever book called out to you. The baristas are genuine and friendly, and so excited to share the details of the caffeinated potions they’ve cultivated during their time there.
Trust me: take the time to drop in, it’s definitely worth your while.

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a prettier coffee …. 😂 this is The Katniss Everdeen, a cherry and cinnamon latte, from their Library Character Coffee menu!

📚 They have bookcases with a variety of selections if you’d like to read while enjoying your beverage… and you can trade a book of your own if you’d find something you’d like to take with you.

Neat place next time you’re in Chapin or want a new “local” coffee/reading spot to check out! I stopped by on the way to a client’s soon-to-be homesite 😃

I go out of my way for an excuse to come to The Coffee Shelf. The baristas are just cute and adorable and so dang friendly. I have trouble leaving without buying a book. But I have never had a bad experience in this place, with an atmosphere that is just what I need sometimes. Anne's pastries and sandwiches are to die for! Each and every Wednesday, I take my two grandsons there. We read, play checkers and enjoy our drinks. It's becoming a tradition.

I just started going to The Coffee Shelf most Saturday mornings. I love the coffee (iced Gatsby with oatmilk!) and the high schoolers that are working are friendly and helpful.

I absolutely adore The Coffee Shelf! I am an out-of-towner and always prioritize visiting The Coffee Shelf when I am in the Columbia, SC area. The coffee and other beverages are top notch. My current favorite drink is The Gatsby (salted carmel mocha) and my children love the frozen hot chocolate. The baristas are always so pleasant and knowledgeable. Not to mention the best books are always available to purchase.

I highly recommend visiting The Coffee Shelf! You will not be disappointed!!

Love this place!! Great coffee, darling staff, great books and goodies to nibble! They also do all sorts of fabulous things for the community like book signings, art shows, and more! My personal favorite is the frozen "Yertle the Turtle"! Happiness in a cup!

Well, this place definitely earns 5 stars for food AND service.
Cute little bookstore and coffee and pastry shop.

I asked for something cold and caffeinated. Girl behind the counter suggested white mocha and salted caramel smoothie. It has 3 shots of caffeine. I really like it because it's not sugary sweet. Perfect for a hot summer day.

The apple strudel and the cheese danish are the best that I had in a long time. Good pastry like this is hard to find. Not sugary. Not oily. Not decadent. Just simply delicious.

I'm very glad that I found such a nice place during the long drive.

Such a cute place! Wish there were more book/coffee shops since this one is over a hour away. I wasn't impressed with my hot coffee but the two I was with enjoyed theirs, along with a cinnamon roll.

I used to come here a lot 5 years ago, forgot about it until I moved over that way & stumbled upon it again! My whole family loves it & everyone we bring there, so much so my 3 year old asks for a milk & muffin from here every single morning!

Anytime I go somewhere and the employees are genuinely happy and enjoy their work I know it's going to be a great experience. This adorable coffee shop/bookstore was no exception. The employees were helpful and friendly, the coffee and pastries were delicious, and I loved the bookstore part. You can tell this place is someone's dream come true and they've really done an incredible job!

Excellent small town coffee shop. Anytime I'm working on the ambulance we always swing in to grab some coffee.

A good place to sit and have coffee and read. The owner is very knowledgeable about beans and this coffee shop makes pour over as well. Ask them about their book selection and you will pointed to whatever type of book you are feeling that day. Their menu has lots of different choices and the person behind the counter will help you compare to some of the larger chains so you get what you want that is similar. I love their cappuccino.

Best coffee shop in the Columbia area, and easily the best in Chapin. If you rate coffee shops on their black coffee, then you'll give The Coffee Shelf 5 stars. Everything else is 5 stars as well!

And this is a bookstore! Need I say more? But I will say more. Craving a pastry? Come here.
