Grata Diner

Grata diner is a lovely spot to dine and they have plenty of vegan options too:). My mom and I ordered the vegan pancakes & vegan butter with tater tots and the basic burger with a veggie patty no cheese. Everything came out quickly and was fresh and tasty. It’s a kid friendly place too.

I used to eat at the restaurant that was in this location constantly and was sad when it closed. I finally decided to give Grata a try and I'm so glad I did. The food is delicious! I ordered the Belgian Waffle platter. I would recomend this place to my friends and family and will be eating here again.

We got the breakfast platters, delicious pancakes & waffles! Chocolate chip distribution on my pancakes was 9/10. Waffle was warm and fluffy. Really good sausage, tasted like homemade country sausage! We also loved that they came with real maple syrup.

Atmosphere was really great, loved the place! We came at a time they weren’t too busy and we sat wherever and walked up to the counter to order. Food came quickly & overall it was a great experience!

Grata is in the space formerly occupied by the Carrboro branch of Elmo's Diner in Carr Mill Mall. Still love the space which is classic diner. The selections at Grata are good and they are different from Elmo's which is a nice touch. Really enjoyed my omelet and all the other food looked great. Good place to gather with friends especially for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Recommend.

At the last minute our reservation at another brunch spot fell through but we were able to get a brunch reservation to celebrate our daughter's graduation from UNC and are pleased at our great fortune to have stumbled onto this gem. The owner worked magic to get our large party seated outside. The menu was expansive with many delicious options for vegetarians and those who are gluten free. The food arrived promptly for all six of us after our order. Needless to say the food and service was excellent and the owner stopped by our table and made sure our experience was perfect. Many thanks to him and the staff for making our celebration so special.

Went on a weekend for breakfast, was extremely busy. Had to wait 15 mins for a table and the food toon 30 mins to arrive. The food was absolutely fantastic and very filling.

As a vegetarian, the veggie patty smash burger is one of the best patties I have had in the country. It reminded me of the spicy and savory veggie patties I eat back home in India.

First time dining. Grata is at the old Elmo’s location. Looks so airy now. New floors etc. so you order at the counter and then chose a table and they will bring out your meal. Coffee was good and I love that they have turkey sausage & turkey bacon. I chose to customize an omelet and it was delicious. And for some reason I’m in love with their plain wheat toast - it was crunchy and perfect. I didn’t even bother to butter it up - it was that good. Glad to have a breakfast stop by in that location ♥

I asked for vegan waffles but got pancakes with bacon. They promptly brought the correct dish and it was very good. My husband had a scrambled tofu and it was very good as well.

Call me a raccoon if you want to, but this "garbage bowl" was delicious!!!! I came with my husband, my 7-year-old daughter, and my mother-in-law who was visiting from Maryland and we all had fantastic meals! My mother-in-law had the open face sandwich and said that it was great and unlike anything she'd had before. Mine was full of meats and potatoes and veggies and had an egg on top and was just absolutely fantastic. I ate about half of it at the restaurant and then took it home and proceeded to eat it over the next couple of days for breakfast! The staff were all extremely friendly and while we were there a pumpkin carving contest was going on. With your order you got a chance to vote and the winner got a paid day off! How generous!!! I absolutely love the premise this restaurant is based on and plan to recommend it to anyone who will listen! :-) food is great. mission is great. Bathrooms were clean and nice. Restaurant was very clean. Health inspection rating was 100% which my husband noticed and commented that he didn't think he'd ever seen one that high... They are going to start serving dinner on Friday Saturday Sundays and Mondays starting November 4th 2022- my 7-year-old is so excited to come back which is saying something because she's not the best eater!! Thank you for this gem!

Great food, killer service. Owner came out to chat with us for a while, really wonderful service and fantastic food. Spent years going to Elmo's, this seems like a good place to follow up in the unit. A few folks in our group got the bowls, I got the waffle, sausage patties and potatoes. Don't miss out on the green house-made hot sauce and vegan desserts. Tea list wasn't on the menu but attached a photo here.

A very nice place with an innovative solution to staffing - first, the food, FANTASTIC and ample portions! Very good, I managed to snag a photo of my 3-piece Chibatta French toast, note 1 piece already gone and butter with syrup applied ☺ That was part of the French toast platter. You are seated (reservations suggested) with menus, then order at the counter. Overall, I plan to return and really enjoyed everything!!

They have so many gluten free and vegan options. I have not had pancakes in forever and these vegan, gluten free pancakes were amazing! I was so focused on mine, I forgot to take a picture of my husband’s french toast but he said it was outstanding.
Staff are all incredibly friendly and the owner (I believe he was the owner) was very nice and had a great sense of humor!
We will definitely be back!

Great place with plenty of local ingredient- based variety! Smash burger was juicy and fresh. Garbage bowl equally tasty. Prices are fair for sure. We will be back- so glad we gave Grata a go!

This is a great choice for a locally sourced meal. Jay, the owner, was a fabulous host. Everything from the salad to the dessert hit the spot. The food is all sourced from within a seven mile radius of the restaurant and Jay's recipes are his own.

The homemade focaccia bread is made daily. The salads are crisp and fresh. We each had pasta...our favorite, the chicken parmesan with fettuccine noodles. Yum!

The night ended with pumpkin bread pudding and a wonderful conversation with the owner Jay. What a nice human! Did I mention his family was eating in the restaurant? Super nice people. I highly recommend supporting this local establishment.

Amazing customer service and food. We made a 1pm reservation while in route to return our daughter to Chapel Hill. Daughter and husband are gluten sensitive and easily found more than enough to choose from. The portions are 'well fed'. The recipes are original and certainly make them ' take a bite and pass to the right' quality. We each got something different and found ourselves taking bites to sample the other dishes. Btw, the cheerwine cake top the day off right! The gentleman that served us was comical and kept us on our toes. Can't say enough great things about this establishment. Look forward to my next trip in your area. See you again soon!

Just flew in from Portland and this is the first place we stopped at. Hands down the best breakfast place I’ve had in my LIFE. the food, the service, the employees were all 5 stars. Def recommend!

The best Gluten free pancakes I ever tasted. The staff was nice and place very clean. Bottomless cold brew coffee and the sausage was so good! I didn’t even make it through half of it! I’ll definitely come back here.

Love this place! "the table" (fruits+yogurt) is my favorite breakfast item. You also must check their kombucha it's the best in town!

They have an amazing vegan bowl!

Order at the counter. GF friendly. Nice little outdoor space if you wish. Unique wine and beer selections. I had the gluten free chicken and waffles with jalepeno-infused syrup!
