A perfect spot for a Virginia Shore family meal. We stumbled upon it (thank you Google maps) and took the side road to get to this "locals only" , with local dishes: the crab cake was TO DIE FOR- a nice add-on to any entrée. Friendly service. Across from a historic railroad museum that will delight those who love "choo-choos" (my grandbaby, Flossie ;-)
3 stars on atmosphere because we had to walk our family through a dense cloud of cigarette smoke to enter as the front porch is the smoking section. It WAS rainy, so maybe there were more smokers than usual. Fact is, we were visiting Virgina, a Commonwealth that has a long history of benefit from the tobacco industry. So when in Rome. . .
Bathrooms were clean, country decor in a historic building with a clean partially open kitchen.

Can’t say enough about Barberlys. Janice and the staff are so welcoming and accommodating. The food, home cooking at its best. As many times as we have been here, I have tried many different things and haven’t found anything yet that I did not like. So I am going to continue my quest to find out what more tasty morsels they have to offer. Their desserts are to die for.
As for the wait, sure if you don’t have reservations there is a wait. But to tell you the truth, it’s definitely worth the wait.
Sometimes I wonder if I want to spread the word about our “date night” place, because then I would never be able to visit because they are only open Fridays and Saturdays. Maybe I should give them a bad review so I can keep this gem all to myself! Great place and Love to our host Janice and her family!

This place was a random find driving through from assateague to chincoteague, but thankful we found it! They sat us quickly, food was delicious and reminded me of my Nana’s cooking. If we ever came back to this area we would eat here again!

This is a Mom & Pop operation!
(Actually the entire family)
The atmosphere is that of way back in the day when folks actually enjoyed taking care of you and your family.
The food was beyond exceptional.
The food is if you went to your family potluck and everyone brought your favorite dish.
Portions are actually huge (too much in a good way) you'll be taking some home with you for sure! There are so many choices it's difficult to choose because everything is so good.
I fell in love with this place. It definitely has that down home feeling.
You must experience it for yourself.

A charming place, out of the way, with great homemade dinners and desserts. We will go again and again. But make reservations. They are only open a few hours on Friday and Saturday. Smiles.

If you want a true throw back experience to having a great meal at a friend's house in the 1970s, look no further. This family will welcome you with open arms and feed you the best comfort food straight out of the pages of the long defunct Country Kitchen Magazine. The stuffed pork chops with gravy will make you cry. They are only open for 2 dinners a week now and the long lines waiting on the front porch with the family cat, Pumpkin, are a clear sign that the food inside is worth the wait. Reservations are wise...

Food is excellent. Old town neighborhood. If you blink you will miss the town. Very old building falling apart, loaded with antique items for sale. Dining area old style oak tables & chairs.
Again, food was excellent & well worth the price. Deserts were exceptional. All home made cooking.

Great little Mom & Pop (literally) restaurant off the beaten path in Newark MD. Cozy atmosphere with daily specials and a menu that changes daily. Check Facebook for menu offerings. Desserts are home made and delicious. Stuffed pork chops and beef or chicken and dumplings are my favorites. Fried chicken is also very good. Sides such as corn pudding, Mac and cheese, cucumbers and onions, fries, sweet potato, collard greens etc.
Check out the antiques lining the walls - almost overwhelming.

Oh my gosh...I wish I could get them to ship me some of their food. All the things that the Easter Shore is known for. Peas and Dumplings soup, Chicken and Dumplings, Apple Dumplings and Cucumber and Onions....Things from the Eastern Shore you just can't get in Upstate New York. The first time I was to go there I couldn't because I was on day 9 of Covid. The second time we went with another couple and we had a blast. The 3rd time I did carry out. I ordered enough for two meals. I wanted some fried chicken. Yes I drove past KFC and Popeyes and headed here for the best friend chicken dinner.

Passed through on our way to Norfolk with the grand kids. For starters, the food was absolutely AMAZING!! Everyone loved their meals. And there was far more than we expected. Then there is the decor. The place looks like an antique shop. The plates were all different, including the saucers for our bread, and our silverware was all different as well. It added to the atmosphere. I definitely recommend eating here.

Barbely’s is a family owned and run restaurant. Down home family cooking. Food is absolutely delicious just like I’d have growing up. Their chicken and dumplings, fried chicken, and even their liver and onions are so good. Make sure you order dessert first. It might be gone by the time you are ready for it.

Amazing food. Warm and cozy. Food was great when we were there months ago. Hoping they make it thru this difficult time. Want to get my 92 year old mom over there for some food reminiscent of a time she would know and enjoy. The meringues are amazing. Never better apple dumplings!

One of my favorite places. It is family owned and run. They are great people. The menu is Eastern shore home style. Bruce's meatloaf is my absolute favorite and Bruce could be your server. Cream of crab soup is wonderful. It is the standard I compare all others to. If you like local out of the way places that feels like you are having dinner with friends this is the place. Oh, the deserts are too die for. I always get a slice with dinner and a slice to go home. The chocolate pie, coconut cream, and strawberry are the best ever.

Diamond in the rough! It's a quaint, very small restaurant with REAL HOMR COOKIN" The fried chicken is lightly battered, meat very moist. Collards done just right. I'm not giving away what desserts they have, but, you must try. We carried ours out, since we were stuffed from dinner. We had a party of 6, meals delicious, all came out together .
Can't wait to go back!
